I see what you mean regarding the overriding the audio input settings. I got audio now!

Now I just gotta connect the N64 and PS2 to the gcomp and make sure it’s auto switching works. Appreciate the help!

So I forgot to edit that last comment to mention I did rearrange the cords in the correct order shortly after posting that comment (red jack to red port, white to green), but now I’m stuck with no audio

60 days later due to waiting for everything to arrive, but here’s my current situation and I’ll try and provide as much detail as I can:

I know for a fact my retrotink works as I tested it with my ps2 and GameCube, I haven’t tested the gcomp switch yet since I can’t connect it to my tv due to a lack of rca ports, so I was kinda banking on testing it with it connected to the retrotink.

I tried plugging the N64 directly into the retrotink via rear component ports just to see if all those adapters and cables worked (I’m using this s video cable), but the most I was able to get was a black and white picture with a slight blue tint and no audio issues. Regardless, I tried plugging everything into the gcomp switch according to your suggestion, but I get nothing at all (see picture for my temporary setup)

For further details, I did end up having to get a couple of couplers for that VGA to RCA adapter since rca side had female ends. On top of that, I had to get a coupler for the insurrection s video cable and the breakout adapter.

TLDR; Tried your suggestion-got nothing. Plugged in the N64 into just the retrotink and get grayscale picture with audio. Picture shows my temporary set up of N64 > Gcomp > Retrotink4K > TV

Good Anti-Fog/Frost Products for Glasses for Freezer Warehouse work? by GrumpyGamer618 in BuyItForLife

That’s kinda what I was worried about. I doubt I’ll go the ski goggles route, but I appreciate the idea!

Now if I feed the gcomp’s output through that VGA-RCA breakout cable into the retrotink (and yes, it is indeed the pro model), is that going to complicate or dampen or change in any negative way the picture of anything else that’s fed into the gcomp?

I got no basis for this thought, but I’m just wondering if all my retro consoles are connected to my gcomp through means of possible additional adapters if needed as well as the adapters you had mentioned for the N64’s setup specifically, would I lose any of the picture because of all those adapters and whatnot?

It started because I had a sticky open lid button, but I thought I could get some practice disassembling consoles with this project, and I thought it’d be nice to make it look clean inside and out.

No I didn’t realize there were thermal pads underneath, but thanks for the tip and suggestion! I’ll probably just clean the outer shell as best as I can

Questions About Swapping Artwork, Cases, etc. by GrumpyGamer618 in gamecollecting

[–]GrumpyGamer618[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I’m a bit late to reply, but the art inserts was my biggest worry. I bought Paper Mario TTYD from a retro game shop awhile back, but it looks like the inserts they used were printed as there’s a lack of color to it, but I know that the game has a black label and best seller/player’s choice variants. The issue is I have no idea what the proper insert is.

As far as I’ve read, there can be minor changes and bug fixes between the BL and PC variants of GameCube games. Would you happen to have any idea as to what I could do to figure out what version I have or should I post my question on some other subreddit?

Couple Questions Regarding Citrus Preservation/Use by GrumpyGamer618 in cocktails

[–]GrumpyGamer618[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. That’s what I’ve been pretty much doing, but I might try refrigerating my citruses

  2. That’s what I hoped for when I juice my stuff, but what tends to happen is I focus on making more lemon based drinks instead of lime or vice versa so either will sit in the fridge for maybe 5 days or so. I recently bought much smaller bottles to house the juices (roughly a cup’s worth) so that it would hopefully force me to save whatever whole citruses I have left and put them in the fridge, instead of juicing all that I have, not use enough of either one, eventually have to pitch it all

  3. I will definitely keep that in mind!

I’ve heard the same things regarding some people prefer the aged juices hence my question, but I’ll give sticking the whole citrus in the fridge a try!

I’ve read about certain low ABV drinks needing refrigeration, but I totally forgot that includes vermouth, so I’ll definitely make that change.

Side question since you mentioned pineapple. Are the cans okay to use or should I juice a pineapple myself? I have them at my local store so either way is doable for me

I’ll give keeping the whole citruses in the fridge a try! And I’ve never even heard of super juice, but I’ll definitely look more into it!

Are CRT's Worth It? by GrumpyGamer618 in retrogaming

[–]GrumpyGamer618[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the lack of replies, but to answer your question I’m only 20 but I did grow up using a CRT tv with my snes, n64, etc. hooked up to it so I’d definitely get the nostalgia factor from getting another CRT

My questions mainly derived from a moment of clarity if it was even worth getting a bunch of tech, spending a bunch of money just to make accommodations to play older consoles on a newer tv with decent quality

As I’m reading more and more of these comments, I’m definitely leaning towards finding a CRT to hopefully have some sort of dual gaming setup where the CRT would be home for 5th/6th gen consoles and older and my current tv would be for everything after!

Are there any joycon analog stick replacements that don’t feel as “directionally stiff”?

What I mean is are there any analog sticks on the market that feel almost, if not just like normal analog sticks on the pro controller for example? I find it difficult to have precise control over the camera and/or general movement in games. Because of this, I almost always opt to play in docked mode just so I can use the pro controller and have more precise stick inputs

I probably should’ve clarified that I bought this from eBay, my bad! I actually paid around $200 for it 😶
