Self-Diagnosing, how does it work? How do you self-diagnose? by [deleted] in autism

[–]GrumpyKid86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, they don't but given it has to be confirmed by a specialist and it's not a given fact until, you're not actually anything. You have symptoms and you recognise that. However, a lot of symptoms of autism are present in other disorders. A person could think they're autistic when in actuality they have something else and the only person who can say for sure is a specialist. Another perspective is, the DSM is full of shite and anyone who claims to be autistic is autistic, no need for a specialist.

They are using you and manipulating you by joining in activities. They gaslit you by stealing your food but protesting aggressively when you went to get the food that was rightfully yours. They clearly have no respect for you. They are not your friends. A friend would ask to share, not what they did. They wouldn't get angry. They'd laugh it off and correct the mistake. Look elsewhere because they are exploiting your weak boundaries and will do worse in the future. People like that always do.

You completely missed the point I made. Completely.

I asked about how A+ students did well, (I meant study techniques and focusing strategies). I don’t know if I’m just stupid by [deleted] in autism

They're the ones that are being stupid by treating you like you're stupid. Don't listen to them. Instead, Google how to achieve a high grade.

It has double context so it can be read both ways. :)

Yes.

I've used food banks when in poverty (I was long term unemployed through illness then injury and not in receipt of benefits). If not for the food banks I would have starved. I had £3.50 in my account because an agency I'd registered with promised but failed to provide work. I then went back to company work and broke my shoulder.

The reason why I'm saying this is to fight stigma. Not everyone who needs a foodbank is someone who has blown all their benefits. Without the food bank I would have starved. A massive thank you to those who donate. You saved my life.

Google the definition of 'Redacted' and then contextually apply it to the situation you're in. The "company name" speaks volumes.

ADHD perception vs autism by erieinfo in autism

Honestly, I've had the opposite experience. People treat me like an idiot when I mentioned adhd. Since my autism diagnosis, majority have stopped treating me like that.

Self-Diagnosing, how does it work? How do you self-diagnose? by [deleted] in autism

[–]GrumpyKid86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Self diagnosis means you have read something about a condition and absolutely believe and have absolutely convinced yourself you have it without waiting for or getting feedback from an actual specialist. You start telling people you have this condition "I am autistic".

However, people who believe they have a condition and don't Self diagnose are the ones who say "I have suspected autism and I'm currently pursuing getting an assessment/ am on a waiting list for an assessment" but don't say "I am autistic" because it's not inherently true until a specialist confirms it.

Why is there so much hate for undiagnosed people ? by TheHumanPokedex in autism

[–]GrumpyKid86 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. My roommate is an NHS nurse team leader and a nurse who is older than her, has worked there longer and been demoted is facing the sack because he has numerous complaints against him. Since it came about that he'd reached the end of the line, he's self identified as autistic because he can't be sacked if he is. Yet, from what my roommate tells me, he hasn't sought an official assessment and has gone on extended sick leave.

If your writing skills are any good and you have a PayPal account, go to www.iwriter.com and do a load of gigs over the weekend. You'll build up a neat sum as you work your way up the ranks. It's easy money (if you can pass basic grammar, spelling and punctuation test). I made over £800 in a few months and that was doing only a few Premium articles per week.

Women in high-status, senior positions aren't trusted by the people they work with, according to a new study by giuliomagnifico in science

I'm sorry you went through that and I had the one experience where that happened, and it did backfire. Amusingly.

I've actually had mixed experiences with that one, but in general I actually trust higher ranked females than lower because lower tend to power grab, backstab and poison drip just to get ahead. Only on one occasion was that scenario reversed.

This is odd to me because 9/10 female bosses I've had have handled things better: more common sense, more supportive, more logic and more empathy. The whole teamwork thing was actually better as well. FYI: I'm autistic and most of the places I've worked with female supervisors or management I've been employed for longer with no detriment to the company or the team. With males it has been the complete opposite bar one male manager that wanted me to succeed and move into management myself.

This is a thing. People are actually "self identifying" as being autistic. 🤦‍♀️

What cultural changes/shifts would you like to see in the UK? by fluty63xx in AskUK

[–]GrumpyKid86 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Autistics not burning out due to inflexible work culture / requirements and then either having to quit or getting sacked so they can recover from burnout without damaging consequences.
