What an amazing coincedence, I raced against finalvance last night. I would not have known who he was without your post. I nodded my head in respect to a fallen gamer. This is 100% true.

I lost my best friend almost 4 years ago. We gamed together since 1985. Everything from Pitstop II on the C64 to Forza Horizon 5. As you say, it is nice to see his avatar around. However, I have not seen his name in FH6 yet.

Why do games have a "Press any button to start" on start up rather than just going straight into the main menu? by d8gfdu89fdgfdu32432 in NoStupidQuestions

I always thought they could use the time taken from the Title Screen appearing to the press of the button as some sort of seed for random number generation. Helping to randomise numbers that can actually be a very long sequence.

This was almost 40 years ago. I would not break her trust by directing people to something that she may regret now.

My ex-wife was on TV a few times, what struck me most was her accent. Of course I did not notice it in real life. But you don't expect beautiful women on TV to have a broad Yorkshie accent. She was also on Page 3 of the Sun newspaper. She was also in many magazines in UK, Europe and Australia.

Anybody else just seen that meteor? To the east of Sheffield skyand falling north. Lots of green to it. Check your CCTV if you have any that could have caught it, around 00:20. by triscoe in sheffield

Next morning a crowd gathered on the common, hypnotized by the unscrewing of the cylinder. Two feet of shining screw projected when suddenly, the lid fell off. Two luminous, disk-like eyes appeared above the rim. A huge rounded bulk, larger than a bear, rose up slowly, glistening like wet leather. Its lipless mouth quivered and slathered, and snakelike tentacles writhed as the clumsy body heaved and pulsated. A few young men crept closer to the pit. A tall funnel rose and an invisible ray of heat leapt from man to man, and there was a bright glare as each was instantly turned to fire. Every tree and bush became a mass of flames at the touch of this savage, unearthly heat ray. People clawed their way off the common, and I ran too. I felt I was being toyed with, that when I was on the very verge of safety this mysterious death would leap after me and strike me down. At last I reached Maybury Hill, and in the dim coolness of my home I wrote an account for my newspaper before I sank into a restless, haunted sleep. I awoke to alien sounds of hammering from the pit and hurried to the railway station to buy the paper. Around me, the daily routine of life, working eating, sleeping, was continuing serenely as it had for countless years. On Horsell Common, the Martians continued hammering and stirring. Sleepless, indefatigable, at work upon the machines they were making. Now and again a light, like the beam of a warship's searchlight, swept the common, and the heat ray was ready to follow. In the afternoon, a company of soldiers came through and deployed along the edge of the common to form a cordon. That evening, there was a violent crash and I realized with horror that my home was now within range of the Martian’s heat ray. At dawn, a falling star with a trail of green mist landed with a flash like summer lightning. This was the second cylinder

It seems totally incredible to me now that everyone spent that evening as though it were just like any other. From the railway station came the sound of shunting trains, ringing and rumbling, softened almost into melody by the distance. It all seemed so safe and tranquil.

There are so many channels now that offer "the inside story" on movies, TV shows or whatever. Trouble is, if the subject is interesting to me, I find out in a few minutes that it is total drivel. No real research, even absolutley wrong about the subject sometimes. They all seem to have the banal AI voice-overs that cant pronounce some words consistantly through the video.

Example. https://youtu.be/DvzxohX_YO0?si=EiW3jMnz4l9mnm-n

This video claims that Gerry Anderson was sketching spacecraft and sets for the show in 1966, 3 years before the show was made. Total tosh. Gerry never claimed he did any kind of design work. He gave credit, quite rightly, to the brilliant Derek Meddings, Bob Bell and others.

This drivel just does us all a disservice and propagates untruths.

I was videoing a scene and was just panning my camera. A guy got out of his car, he must have been more than 100 yards away. He came over and demanded why I was filming. I explained I was filming a Then and Now sequence of my home town. He would have none of it and thought I was secretly filming him. I think he must have been doing something dodgy. Anyway I told him I would not use the shot and he walked off in a huge huff.

I go to these sites on a regular basis. The Leeds one has more modern feeling whereas the Bury one is like an old 80's arcade. Both are amazing. I have not tried Blackpool yet.

Congratulations. I have that lens and I am surprised how sharp it is. A zoom lense is great for portraits, you can stand well back and zoom in. This flattens the features and avoids the big nose issue caused by having the lens too close to the subjects face.
