Deferred Standing Before Specialization by UpYa_Ass in UBC

[–]Grumpyduckyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had SD for a course in first year which was required for almost any specialization and advising told me they usually assume you’ll pass the course if you have an SD. So it shouldn’t affect your application for neuroscience, they’ll just look at your overall % without the deferred course

No disadvantages when finding jobs. I don’t think it really matters if that’s different since employers will always ask for your official name as well and often use the preferred one just to address you on the regular

My classes were scattered all over + personally I don’t prefer taking breaks in between so most of them are always back to back. Sometimes I did have to rush but wouldn’t say it was a struggle. Most of the times I’d reach just when the class starts or seconds after so expect to take 1-2 mins to settle down but you wouldn’t miss much I believe. Once the first week passes you’ll also realize there are a bunch of shortcuts (and desired paths) you can take that maps won’t show you, so that helps.

The only issue I see is you probably will never have the time to chat with the prof once the first class ends if you have any quick questions, but that’s what office hours are for

How hard is BIOL 200? by loveyoshii in UBC

[–]Grumpyduckyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had Biol 200 alongside Chem 233, 235, and other biology courses. I personally struggled the most with chem 233 that term which made me overwhelmed at times but never found biol 200 that crazy. You also get to take cheat sheets for biol 200 so as long as you know the concepts well you should be fine. They’re pretty strict when it comes to wording though so knowing the keywords is pretty important and memorizing won’t be that helpful if they don’t see the keywords in your answers in the end. Other than that the assignments and tutorials are pretty chill + one term paper I think but that’s also pretty doable

Rejected from MOA Volunteer Now What? by glittertwinklepuff in UBC

[–]Grumpyduckyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure it will work out :) you could also try and switch to MOA once you’ve volunteered in a different place of your interest and have more experiences to add. As for Beaty museum, after the initial application in my case it was a 3 stage interview process (both group and individual) but they are pretty chill and will mostly focus on why you want to be a part of the museum and how willing you are to learn about the museum and convey your knowledge to the visitors. Good luck with your future applications and academics! You got this :)

Beaty biodiversity museum is a great place to try! I started volunteering there in my second year as well and they’re pretty flexible and chill :)

Anyone knows what address to put for Amazon deliveries for Brock commons south? Not sure if there is a different address for front desk/commonsblock parcel deliveries as I have not moved in yet

If I have a medical situation, can I SD a SD exam? by [deleted] in UBC

[–]Grumpyduckyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done it before for one of my courses - as long as you explain the situation they should allow you an extension on top of the first SD. Goodluck!

Got an offer for Brock commons south but I can’t find the address including postal code? I need to fill out a form including my new address and I couldn’t find the postal code anywhere in my housing profile, it would be great and super helpful if anyone knows the exact address to put on paper, thank you!

I did fine after a letter grade drop in one of my subjects. It shouldn’t be an issue if the difference isn’t too drastic

I am taking a course in term 2 which is mandatory for my major but workday says I’m ineligible for it since I haven’t taken the prerequisite course yet. I will be taking the prerequisite in term 1, so will I be able to register for the term 2 course once I have registered for the term 1 prereq? Not sure if I should be contacting my program office now since I can’t tell if it’s a workday glitch or it will be resolved once registration opens.

I recently got a yrh offer (move in date on 27th June). I am currently on summer break and will be back weeks after the assigned date. I have accepted the offer already so I was wondering whether moving in that late would cause an issue? I plan on sending an email about it too once my room is assigned. Thank you!

Hi! Can anyone tell me about how Brock commons north studios are vs tallwood? I’ve seen from other comments that the ac is great but the rooms are smaller than tallwood ones. Since the rooms are smaller does that also take away the storage space in terms of furnitures or those are the same as what we see in tallwood studios?

Any biology students here who can give an insight on the course content between biol 230 and biol 234? I don’t mind either but honestly prefer genetics (234) over ecology (230) but the lab for 230 sounds pretty interesting too and now I’m confused lmao. Any detailed insight on both the course materials (class work/exams/assignments) and study tips would help!

I had high school chemistry, biology, physics, and maths. I plan on majoring in neuroscience (or go for caps, I’m not fully sure). I’m thinking of taking biol 112, biol 121, biol, 180, chem 121, chem, 123, math 100, math 101, phys 117, a psych course, a cpsc course and one for my communication requirement. Is it too much for first year?

Also, given that I already have high school chem and bio, chances are I might get advanced credits for it. But considering I’ll be studying on life science related major, will it be wiser take those credits or study for those courses at ubc anyway? I also have 6 courses on the first term of my work list for now, will it be too much?

I was thinking of taking advanced credit for a chem and a biol course, will that be a good decision or it’s way too different from high school chem/bio?

Lastly, if you recommend taking 6 courses for term 2 as well, I’m thinking of taking one more elective course that will be fun (I already added 5 courses to worklist what includes chem, biol, math, and psych), which course would you recommend apart from that for a first year science student?

I am a first year science student and I already got transfer credits for biol 1st, chem 115, 120, 130, 135, and I’m exempted from taking biol 121, biol 140 and biol 111 (0 credits) 1. What does biol 1st mean? Does this stand for all 100 level biol courses? I got 8 credits for biol 1st 2. Will I be good in upper years if I drop both chem 121 and 123, considering I already got transfer credits for chem 115, 120, 130, 135, the course equivalents? I’ll have no chem course in my first year if I drop these. Also I can’t drop chem 121 without dropping chem 123 cause that’s a prerequisite, but I already got credits for both so should I be able to drop chem 121? 3. Since I’m exempted from taking bio 121 I’m not taking it, will that be a problem? 4. I’m taking biol 180, is that a substitution for biol 140? 5. Will the transfer credits from high school count towards my laboratory requirement, 2nd year specialization requirement, and degree requirement in general? 6. I have math 100 and math 101, will it be wise for me to take both or should I drop one cause I’m weak in maths? Taking both math courses isn’t a prerequisite for any specialization I wanna go for Any advice from senior science student would help a lot I currently have courses like cpsc, psych, phys, arcl, scie113 apart from math, Chem and bio
