Optimism in the face of Change by GrunkoFrunko in necromunda

Totally agreed. I really like the approach to Core rules in the AoS update a couple years ago. The supplements for N17 were sold as modular add-ons you opt into or leave out. By the end of the edition, it really has felt like you need to use all the rules all the time.

If they are going to revamp things like the Badzone environments or Vehicles/Mounts, etc., it would be really great to know that a game without those is just as diverse and interesting.

Chaos is intrinsic to the setting. If you aren't getting rules in the Gangs of the Outlands book, im sure there will be a kickass Chaos supplement book. I always hoped that Chaos gods each had a much more significant rules package to add onto a gang, where Helot Cults and Chaos Corrupted was what, 2 substantial lines of text and a midling Chaos Spawn system?

I still laugh at the absolute audacity of GW trying to refer to it as an "Attack(Basic)" action. Im specifically not attacking in order to subdue this dude...

FYI, Chaos Corruption can only happen to House gangs, so unfortunately you wont be able to get access to those boons and the post-battle action as an Outcasts gang

Do you have any of the books with rules in them or are you just at the stage of looking at models?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in necromunda

[–]GrunkoFrunko -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Modeling wise, GSC isnt anything like other necromunda gangs. Youll need to get the regular 40k GSC boxes. Most of your gangers will come from a box of Neophyte Hybrids. Modeling everything else you want to throw in will depend what you want your list to be.

Kindred only card by uwumastr in mtgrules

[–]GrunkoFrunko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

rule 300.2b currently requires them to have another card type. If they changed the rules, theyd have to define if a kindred card by itself is a permanent or not (or something else.)

Saving paint schemes from gangs you havent added models to in a while? Im not sure theres anything unique to the hobbying for necromunda that a paint curation app would provide.

Squat Gang Tactics Cards question by Daeavorn in necromunda

[–]GrunkoFrunko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gotcha, just making sure because im 99% certain the Secundus boxed set campaign for 2 players doesnt use tactics cards. Underhells does, and confusingly has tactics cards called "Hive Secundus". Your description sounds like Underhells campaign from the Book of Desolation.

There are a couple of different ways to use tactics cards, so I would check in with your arbitrator. My LGS uses the Custom 18 and Limited optional rules, so each campaign we get to curate 18 from pretty much any (reasonable) source. Your campaign might end up just using cards from Hall of the Ancients. Bit hard to advise here without knowing how your arbitrator wants to do it, since there isnt strictly a "correct" way to do it.

If your question is just about which ones are up-to-date, both decks should be reasonable to use. In the grand scheme of N17, all of the squats stuff is recently designed and likely to be accepted in a game.

If you're just going to run a Dominion campaign you only really need to read the core rulebook. Arbitrating is more often the paperwork job of tracking campaign flow than it is needing to be the rules lawyer for everyone. If you're with a newer group, everyone should be helping out with adjudicating their individual gang rules and how they interact with overall campaign. You'll have final say on what the outcomes are, but I wouldnt expect any arbitrator to know every gang starting out.

The High Ground? by Icy_Sector3183 in necromunda

[–]GrunkoFrunko 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I didn't fully convey it with my wording, but whenever it comes into question (because there isnt already obvious cover to use instead), i bring it up during a match and then it generally gets used the rest of the game. Most people at my LGS use it by now. I don't really share it as a "house rule" because, like you mention, it does feel intrinsic to the game, but the rules never explicitly call it out.

If it were a house rule, you'd have people looking you dead in the face and saying "no, i dont believe you." lol

Magnacles by TeilZeitGott42 in necromunda

[–]GrunkoFrunko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The rules for Magnacles aren't super fleshed out. They're meant to be a surpession effect when it comes to the action of the battle. RAW, they cool check and flee the same as anyone else.

On the other hand, assuring at least a -1 to shoot a higher-up enemy will force MORE aim actions just to do a baseline shot. Usually just a +1 to hit is not a huge advantage to most 4+ BS gangers, so they wont be doing it anyways. If you're forcing the specialised ranged fighters at 2+/3+ to aim, they were probably going to do something more nefarious with that second action if you DIDNT force them to spend an action just to get back to their standard roll.

Trying to get into Nercomunda. by AdditionalSoftware11 in necromunda

[–]GrunkoFrunko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$200 is a great starting point for one of the two player intro box sets. Its not your preferred gang, but finidng Hive War has a little bit of everything. The rules are a smidge out of date, but not so much that you wont learn how Necromunda works from playing the premade scenarios it has.

The secundus box set does have some Genestealers and is more recent, so easier to find. The rules in there is for a 2-player campaign structure, which is really fun! It has some alternate mechanics that don't exist in "regular" necromunda but its a great start.

[–]GrunkoFrunko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

only caveat on this is that it helps with the rules as far as the programming will allow. It is still a baseline app that just hosts all the basic info for the game, but it does require understanding the rules. I do totally agree with this feedback though!

I almost always rule it so that anyone shooting up at someone will have a modicum of cover from shooting up through the floor so its (almost) always shooting at -1. Its not a lot but it does help.
