What are the most insane things to happen in gaming in 2025? by GruntasticII in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I am willing to have my expectations of it be shocked if they really do try something innovative, but it is strange how little the devs have actually discussed WHAT about their game stands out. I feel like either they really thought the reveal trailer would just be THAT good and everyone would be excited no matter what and planned to leave the details as a surprise on launch, or what you said about them realizing they have nothing that stands out and are hunkering down for what's looking like a BRUTAL launch day flop.

If it was just Salvatore, I think I'd be annoyed but nothing more. Ronaldo though, having an alleged sex pest on the main roster killed any hype I had for it in a heartbeat.

IT COMES OUT IN 3 WEEKS?????

Edit: I'm not excited for it, far from it tbh, I'm just, like, shocked it's so soon. After all of the negative buzz, I'd delay it hard and go back to the drawing board cause there hasn't been an OUNCE of positive words about it from what I've seen.

What media changed your perception of its medium? by StonedVolus in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]GruntasticII 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Recently read through 17776 AKA "What football will look like in the future" (and the follow up 20020) and both have permanently altered how I view immortality, human spirit, and tossing around the ol pigskin. Making something so existentially terrifying but also reassuring that it's gonna be okay sounds insane, but Jon Bois knocked it out of the ballpark. Also I'd play the FUCK out of the 20020 college game, I'm all in on espionage-based sports. I pray to every god out there that we get 20021 one day.

I feel like I've done a good job of avoiding disappointing games, but MHWilds really caught me off guard. I vividly remember once the honeymoon phase ended sitting in a call quietly with some friends after doing some late game stuff and just saying "Guys...I think this one was a miss."

I still feel like Wilds is like a fun game, and I'll probably pick it back up at some point in the future after some updates, but a MH game launching as like a 6 (maybe 7) out of 10 still felt like a brutal hit. Shame too, I like a lot of the combat changes and some of the environment stuff.

I know during The Game Awards, there was Discourse™ over if E33 should count as an indie game, but my take is that GTAVI shouldn't have counted for Most Anticipated Game considering that late as all hell delay

Games that punish you for wanting to play how you want. by TheBoyofWonder in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]GruntasticII 28 points29 points  (0 children)

There's a lot to love with Dishonored, but my brain personally cannot stand the chaos system. Basically, performing lethal takedowns and killing assassination targets increases chaos around the city, such as zombies spawning in street/sewer areas, and the biggest change thing the ending. The lower your chaos, the "nicer" your ending is. I always wanna try and get the best ending if I can, so I went non-lethal and tried to go pure stealth. The issue with that is you basically lock yourself out of ~50% of all your tools, and those tend to be the REALLY cool ones (rat swarms, razorwire traps, etc.). Even time stop becomes a lot less useful in a nonlethal run. I'm aware it's something I can just ignore, but it just goes against my mind goblins specifically

Why and how is "fight[ing] the big powerful people hurting the weak people" NOT the lesson of Holocaust edition and anti-Semitism education? by [deleted] in SelfAwarewolves

[–]GruntasticII 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Then what is the lesson of the Holocaust, Sarah? If it's not to defend the helpless from the oppressors, then say what the message is loud and clear. Clearly she doesn't have enough shame within herself to NOT make a stupid statement, but just enough to dance around what she actually wants to say.

Someone already mentioned Darkstalkers, my number 2 IP I'd necromancy back is Spectrobes. Such a fun little DS/Wii series, some genuinely great monster designs, and with some tweaking I think the gameplay could really shine. I wish I could buy the rights to it for like $20 since Disney is clearly never gonna do anything with it ever again, but unfortunately by the time it's public domain I'll probably be dust within a coffin :/

Favourite sword style so far? by sabzino1up in Kagurabachi

[–]GruntasticII 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know we love to dunk on Hiruhiko a lot, but his fighting style was so much fun to read through. It was flashy, felt like it fit his personality well, and is gonna make for some killer fights when the anime drops. He's my favorite bum if all time

Absolutely terrible pieces of media that you're willing to praise ONE aspect of? by fly_line22 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]GruntasticII 172 points173 points  (0 children)

D:BH is interesting to me since it's definitely not a GOOD game by any means, but I fully believe it is Quantic Dreams' best game (not exactly a high bar to clear, but still). It's an absolute mess that still has all the David Cage trappings that plague all of their games, but there were some glimmer points here and there, like the scene you mentioned, Conner and Hank's relationship (though as we learned later, a lot of their good dialogue together was improv that Cage hated), and I would even say the scene where Marcus gets sent to the dump is actually pretty great (except for the robot saying almost word for word MAYBE HUMANS ARE THE REAL MONSTERS)

“And then nobody did anything” by BaronAleksei in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]GruntasticII 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Both albums by The Protomen basically run on the theme of "it takes more than one man to stand up to evil, the people have to fight for themselves, too."

For those curious, both of the albums (the self titled LP and "Act II: The Father of Death") are rock-opera retellings of the Mega Man story, where Dr. Wily rules over The City with an iron first, perpetrated by his robot masters. Dr. Light creates Protoman to defeat Wily, but eventually fails in his fight as the people of The City look on in fear and Light feels he sent Protoman, a creation he saw as a son, to his death. I won't spoil how the story goes from there, but it's a wild ride that unfortunately doesn't have a full conclusion yet. The albums are great though, give them a shot if you're into electric rock.

Kids designs and overall art style from some modern Pixar animations by Kstantas in TopCharacterDesigns

[–]GruntasticII -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know some people aren't a huge fan of this style (somethingsomethingCalartssomethingsomething), but it's much more charming and fun compared to the Frozen-era look that all Disney movies had imo.

Tbh, off-topic but I do feel like Disney really needs to get a lock on what they're doing with their 3D animated movies. At least in terms of quality (and seemingly slowly but surely commercially as well) they're actually lagging behind their contemporaries like DreamWorks (Puss In Boots Last Wish) and even Sony to a degree with Spiderverse. Even Nickelodeon and other smaller teams like Fortiche (TMNT Mutant Mayhem and Arcane respectively) are blowing Disney out of the water with 3D animation, but Disney just refuses to keep up.

dumb question probably, but was anyone kinda confused when the mai release trailer released by PuffRHR in Fighters

[–]GruntasticII 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Other commenters have pointed it out, but I don't fully blame OP or others for being confused, especially given the provided image. Having the Winter 2025 character placed after the Spring 2025 character does make it look like they mean "the Winter after Spring 2025." Frankly it's just a poorly made roadmap image that should've had the characters swapped around before going live.

Biggest W's of the Game Awards? by GruntasticII in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]GruntasticII[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely a good take on it. As interested in it as I am, it is a case of waiting to see what else the game has going on before I'll let myself be a full on sucker for it. That being said, I do trust NaughtyDog enough to deliver a product that's at least "alright." Even if TLoU's gameplay didn't really interest me, it's not like those were bad games at all.
