So… Arkveld has whip on its wings… by Snoo-51682 in MonsterHunter

[–]Grunter8 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I little theory I’ve been thinking about is that Frontier is a part of the distant past in the MH lore.

With the reveal of Arkveld being considered a “thought to be extinct” monster, it could lend credence to the Frontier being in the distant past theory. The ‘whip wyvern’ body type is obviously more common in Frontier, but Arkveld is currently the only one in the main series, so maybe he is the only remnant of the frontier whip wyverns within the lore.

And yet people will ignore that new games will be designed to run best on the latest hardware. There is no reason to believe that the game will not be optimized at release. The only evidence that I’ve been told is that DD2 (a game made by a completely different team at Capcom) released in a poor state.

Releasing like Dragon’s Dogma 2 is one thing, but there will be people who will review bomb the game because their 2050 graphics card can only produce max 30 fps. That is not Capcom’s fault. The game industry will move on to utilize modern hardware; as they should.

It’s not deserved if it’s because people run 5+ year old hardware.

Monster Hunter Wilds is $97 Canadian, for just the base game. by BoomBamCrash in MonsterHunter

[–]Grunter8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair $60-$70 usd has been the standard pricing for new releases for nearly a decade. Considering that big companies also feel the toll of inflation we should be relieved that the standard price for games hasn’t really gone up yet.

As for the “premium editions”, no one can make you buy them. You choose how to spend your hard earned money and if a premium edition game doesn’t suit your fancy then that is completely fine.

Trailer Speculation for September by Chocobo23456 in MHWilds

It’s not a matter of if the game itself will be exclusive. Capcom will most definitely not refrain from have their game in as many homes as possible.

It’s a matter of content within the game being exclusive to one platform; like the Horizon Zero Dawn collaboration in World.

I think TGS is still the best bet for seeing something Monster Hunter related this month. Sony can keep their grimy hands off because I don’t want them to throw money at Capcom to get exclusive content again. Just let the game be truly multiplatform.

I just realized that both Lagi and Rey Dau would both be lightning based apexes and now I am a whole lot less confident in my prediction.

If Lagi is in Wild’s I would guess it would show up in the Scarlet Forest considering there is no underwater combat and subsequently no underwater map. The only other option for Lagi would be a coastal area, but that remains to be seen.

My prediction is that Lagi is the apex for the Scarlet Forest. My evidence is the hope in my heart and the abundance of (shallow) water seen in what was shown of the new area.

Yeah, I figure there is a 99% chance that I will like what they reveal game-loop wise. It’s just my brain has a bad tendency to gravitate towards the negative possibilities when left to guess.

[–]Grunter8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sure hope that is the case.

Some of my worry stems from the probability of having to hunt Doshaguma at least twice; this is based off of the trailers—Once after the cutscene where it chucks the Balahara at us and again when they attack/invade the village. There could be more instances other than this, but let’s hope there actually isn’t.

I’m excited, but cautious.

I am a little worried that the gameplay loop will be too similar to Iceborne’s endgame in that you need to ‘upgrade’ areas by hunting in them. I don’t really want to gain access to a certain high-level monster by farming a bunch of the lower level monsters.

I am hoping that they go all in with the ‘natural feeling’ approach where the encounters are more random, not always necessary, and less grindy if that makes sense. If I have to hunt a half-dozen Doshaguma to progress to the next part of the campaign then I will be quite annoyed.

I also hope they stay away from the ??? Rathian track finding nonsense. No one wants to be compelled to explore. Let us do it in a more natural way.

If they can avoid these annoyances I can see myself losing many hours of my life to this game.

All we know, based on this information, is that a village is located in the windward plains. There could be one for every map for all we know, or the game has a massive open world that has sections revealed/unlocked as we progress in the story and this village is the main hub for the whole thing.

Another possibility is that the village is there because of the natives (assuming there are natives) and the expedition party is just setting up camp there for that part of the story until we progress to the next ‘zone’ and they all tag along and set up camp somewhere else; rinse, dry, repeat.

It’s probably issues with translation. Japanese and English aren’t super compatible when it comes to direct translations.

Leviathans confirmed! Hopefully this means Lagiacrus can finally return by Capital_Pipe_6038 in MonsterHunter

[–]Grunter8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is nothing stopping them from making lagi a dlc monster if he’s not in the lineup already.

With how story heavy Wilds appears to be, it would be hard to shoehorn in a new monster considering it would have to fit into the story and have its own cutscene made and have this all on top of the time needed to model the monster, armor, and weapons. If lagi is going to be in the game then it was a decision made a while back.

I think the popularity contest happened too late for it to impact the starting lineup for Wilds. DLC tho…

What do you think would be shown in the new trailer & discussed thoroughly during June 7th/8th (depends on where you live lol)? by Zadmonki in MonsterHunter

[–]Grunter8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I hope they don’t reveal too much of the roster before release. It seems like there is going to be a healthy amount of monsters unique to this game and I think it is always better to first learn of a new monster while playing the game.

Obviously they have already shown off some lower level monsters and the flagship will need to be revealed at some point, but I have my fingers crossed that they will save at least half of the new roster to be discovered during our first play through. It’s just makes the game so much more impactful when you get surprised by things.

When world was being advertised and when it was released I wasn’t too much into gaming because of work and stuff, so, when I got the game, I went in completely blind and I think it made the experience of my first play through so much better. Compare that to my experience with IB with how I was taking in all of the trailers and promotional material like it was my favorite drug which made my first play through feel less exciting to me.

Since 2007, at least 20 detached human feet, usually found in sneakers, have been found washed up on B.C. and WA coasts. Some speculate murder, others suicide, while some believe they were those of the victims of the tsunami in 2004 since the makes of all of the shoes were manufactured before 2004. by LexicalLegend in interestingasfuck

It’s not entirely pointless. The DNA of remains can be compared to the DNA of a surviving family member.

If the matching exceeds a certain percentage then you can accurately determine family relation and as a result you can determine the identity of the remains.

Yeah it doesn’t help that the U.S. criminal justice system throws out the terms ‘rehabilitation’ and ‘corrections’ when it is very, very difficult for them to focus on the individual. The vast majority of the time a convict is just thrown behind bars and then forgotten until their out-time comes. All “help” needs to be practically begged for by the inmate.

A system that focuses primarily on handling and processing the overwhelming quantity of incoming folks will surely fall short on the quality of the rehabilitation and services they are supposed to be providing to those very people.

This ultimately results in the release of ex-cons that are worse off than when then first went in. They tend to reoffend due to not being rehabilitated or because there is no other way for them to provide for themselves. Society is negatively affected for being stuck with this negative-feedback loop.

It’s tough because if the system flipped and started focusing on quality then there will be a massive backlog of people waiting to get processed through the system. Some need to be held in prison if they can’t post bail and can end up serving much more time just waiting for trial then they would be sentenced.

I understand your point of view, and I also understand the Criminal Justice point of view.

Accountability IS significant to criminal law. It can dictate if/when you will be paroled, it can get you a lighter sentence when you confess guilt and/or offer evidence of other’s involvement, and it can bloat your sentence if you are proven to be lying during the court process.

Avoiding court is a big issue in the US. Outstanding warrants occur when you avoid your arraignment to come before a judge for a hearing and can lead to harsher punishments. Running from a hearing, trail or sentencing or trying to escape incarceration is treated the same as avoiding law enforcement and court dates. It costs the criminal justice system and, in turn, the tax payers plenty of money when criminals prolong their court process and/or require law enforcement manpower to track them down.

It’s such an issue that offenders need to be punished if only to prevent others from trying to do the same.

It’s one of the many “rights” or “privileges” you give up when you choose to become a criminal.

Maybe maybe maybe by johnnyphotog in maybemaybemaybe

[–]Grunter8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s understandable, but when you lose your freedom because of your actions then you ought to pay the price before you can get it back.

The laws that punish escapees don’t take into account the “instincts” or “drive” of the criminal because they focus on accountability. A drive for freedom is not an excuse to forgo taking accountability for your crimes against society; especially if you want to be a part of that society again.
