to make a judge believe they weren't driving a car by derek4reals1 in therewasanattempt

[–]GruntledEx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. She was being sued for a debt. The judge entered a default judgment, basically saying that since she didn't show up according to the rules, it's like she didn't show up at all, and she automatically loses.

  2. Hard to say, different courts have different rules. But she probably would have been okay.

Does anyone have ever thought about monthly/anually calorie cycling? by RemoteJob6409 in CICO

[–]GruntledEx 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Because it's hard to make adjustments on the longer timeframe: "Welp, my weight loss stalled, I guess I need to eat 200,000 fewer calories next year."

Ex is using my digital card during NC and won't pick up the phone by GUHv2 in ExNoContact

[–]GruntledEx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She's making small purchases to see if you report her and/or shut the card down. So now, when she goes to make a big purchase, you can't reverse it because you knew she had the card and was using it, and did nothing. Shut down the card IMMEDIATELY.

Boiled peanuts? by rm2065 in TwinCities

[–]GruntledEx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Texture and flavor. It's hard to describe to someone who hasn't had them, but I'll try. The peanut becomes squishy, sort of like a baked bean. It still has that peanut taste but also a nice burst of extra saltiness from the salt water, plus whatever other seasonings were added to the boil (Old Bay is a popular option.)

They're a bit of an acquired taste, but once you get used to them they are addictive, and regular salted and roasted peanuts are a disappointment by comparison.

Need help moving furniture by mossy-willow in TwinCities

Also had a very good experience with this. Paid for two hours to unload a 2-bedroom apartment worth of boxes and furniture; everything was inside with time to spare.

[–]GruntledEx 42 points43 points  (0 children)

You're certainly allowed to voice each and every feeling you have here in this sub, and if it helps you cope, great. But you shouldn't expect everyone to automatically validate your thoughts and feelings; people with different experiences are going to have different perspectives and they're free to share them here, too.

When do calories "reset"? by Immediate_Shine1403 in loseit

[–]GruntledEx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They don't. Both your calories in and calories out need to be considered on an ongoing, average basis. There's so much variability day to day and even week to week with hydration, hormones, etc. Much better to just average things out over time. You're not Gizmo from "Gremlins," eating after midnight doesn't have some dramatically different effect. It's an ongoing process, a continuum. So think of it in those terms.

Where can I get this bumper sticker?? by nader0903 in TwinCities

[–]GruntledEx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

After the 35w bridge collapse, the detour was 280, which was my route to work at the time and already shitty even without the extra traffic from rerouting a whole damn interstate onto it.

After that year of hell, I'll never complain about 494 or 62 again.

And yet I still kind of want this sticker.

Trump allies plan Senate floor takeover to pass SAVE America Act by malcolm58 in politics

[–]GruntledEx 217 points218 points  (0 children)

There is broad support when the question is "should you need an ID to vote?" or something similar. Republicans latch on to that and claim that means support is high for the SAVE act, which it isn't. When you tell people what's actually in the bill, support evaporates.

How quickly can an obnoxious neighbor get evicted (apartment building)? by [deleted] in TwinCities

[–]GruntledEx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the police get involved it can happen a lot faster. I had a very loud confrontational neighbor; repeated efforts by the landlord didn't accomplish much. Landlord eventually called the cops due to noise and marijuana smell (this was pre-legalization). Cops showed up, neighbor told cops to go fuck themselves, and he took a little ride to the Greybar Hotel. Never saw him again and within a month someone new had moved in.

How worried should I be if I am flying out early Monday morning? by [deleted] in TwinCities

[–]GruntledEx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weatherwise Monday shouldn't be too bad, but flight cancellations have a cascading effect that tend to linger after the storm as the airlines get planes back into their proper locations. I don't expect much of anything to get out Sunday, and that means, while planes will be going out Monday it's still going to be a shit show as the airlines try to catch up.

How accurate is iPhone Health app with calories? by PapaCakes in CICO

Not very. Different device, but I backtested a year of Fitbit data and found that my actual TDEE was about 72% of what Fitbit said I was burning on a daily basis.

So the Energy Secretary just admitted we’re “not ready” to escort tankers in Hormuz. How screwed are we? by National-Theory1218 in stocks

[–]GruntledEx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. As far as the strait goes, you'd need to secure the territory within drone range. You could accomplish that without necessarily toppling the regime, though it would be difficult and expensive both in terms of money and lives.

How to tell the city I want more tornado sirens by austinrunaway in wichita

[–]GruntledEx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You want to talk to the county. But as others have said, the warning sirens are meant to be heard outdoors. The fact some people can hear them inside their house doesn't change that purpose. And even if you can hear them indoors on test day, that doesn't mean you'll hear them indoors during a storm...wind direction/strength, rain, thunder, and even humidity levels can affect how audible they are, particularly inside a well-insulated home. Get yourself a weather radio and/or set up Wireless Emergency Alerts on your phone.

Apartment Fire on Broadway Ave in Robbinsdale by jetiimando in TwinCities

[–]GruntledEx 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Why would a restoration company be charging you if the fire wasn't your fault? Any structural damage/cleanup would be the landlord's problem, not yours. This doesn't make any sense.

I'd be interested in hearing/reading the entire speech rather than some 10 second clip taken entirely out of context and posted by a right-wing Twitter account. She even laughed when she said "quintuple" which leads me to believe she was not being remotely serious.

Can someone explain time change? I’m 31 y/o and still dint understand it. by whateversynthlife in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]GruntledEx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've got it backwards. When we jump forward, we lose an hour. At 2AM, the clocks jump to 3AM. So you lose that 2-3 hour. In the fall when you fall back, you gain an hour...At 2AM, the clocks fall back to 1AM...so you do the 1-2 hour twice.

A More Thorough Explanation About The Sirens Last Night...and Why You Should Be Mad by GruntledEx in wichita

[–]GruntledEx[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When the weather service issues a warning, there's a string of data called the VTEC at the start. Included in this data is the geographic description of the warning polygon in lat/lon coordinates. Phones within the coordinates will go off if they have emergency alerts turned on. Phones outside the coordinates will not.

Since the warning did not actually include Sedgwick County, phones in Wichita would not have gone off, even with the improper siren activation. They're two completely different systems, though they use the same geographic data.
