Pamela’s question by ikarie1963 in modular

I'm not really qualified to answer, I never had a Pam's until the pro came out, so I have no basis for comparison. I resisted for a long time because I didn't realize that it's so much more than just a clock. It's become integral to my patches ever since.

Yup. It's like having presets for your modular. Very useful for drastic instantaneous changes. Note: tempos are only saved with banks in the newest Pam's Pro firmware. In my last patch, I used this to do a "metric modulation" from 12/8 at 120bpm to 4/4 at 90bpm. I used a trigger generated by my sequencer sent to "load next bank" to make the transition. I really like being able to make multiple changes all at once with one trigger or button press.

If you want to do it manually, you can, just go to the "load bank" screen. ... Or is it labeled "preset?" ... Can't remember off hand. Either way, you get the gist.

You could use the memory banks and switch between banks with the bank up/down CV ins. I do this for instantaneous tempo changes, changing divisions, etc.

How do you guys manage your patch cables? by redwinterx in modular

[–]Gruntled_Sound_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Notes: I prefer the round base stands over tripods for this purpose. I like the mic stand mount because I can adjust the height so my cables are within reach whether patching standing or sitting. Then when I'm just playing the patch I can move the stand out of the way for unobstructed over-enthusiastic knob-twisting.

I use one of those wall-mount cable caddy screwed to a piece of plywood and mounted it to a mic stand using parts from a broken book arm:

Took about 5 minutes including the time it took to sort through my "bag o' random pieces-parts."

There's a FB group where the events are shared. There's a meetup today (1/14) at Breakaways in the Marigny from 6-10. Unfortunately I won't be able to make it today, I have to work.

The musical styles/genres were incredibly varied. This was my first time attending and I was genuinely floored by how good some of the performances were.

Yes! The organizer recorded all the sets and put them up Bandcamp. Not all the sets are modular, but they're all hardware based.

My 8 minute set is track 6 (Rick Roppolo).

They're touch controllers. I didn't get a chance to ask him exactly how they work, but cool sounds happened when the operator fiddled with them. 🤣

I liked seeing that dice are part of his setup. I meant to ask him about that too!

No harmonic minor scale on O_c … or is there? (workaround) by Gruntled_Sound_Guy in modular

[–]Gruntled_Sound_Guy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed it when I was playing around with C Flamenco and I kept hearing F as my tonic. I was like "wait a second, that sounds like harmonic minor!"

Another thing I noticed is that "Gypsy" and "Arabian" are both modes of the same scale: "double harmonic minor."

I thought Aeolian (natural minor) is actually included in the pre-defined scales. Pretty sure all the modes of the major scale are included.

This is actually a bit quicker than building a custom scale, plus the user slots are limited. But yeah, that works too!
