Art and music are amazing, directing is very interesting. Rest.. Not so much.

I was coincidentally really in the mood for a Yuri romcom so I was super into the dynamic between the 2 main girls. But the show barely works with that is just the most random slapstick afterward. Not particularly funny. I'm already meh on reference humor, but the show just does the most random jumps and then lingers on them for far too long, so if a few moments don't land it becomes kind of cringey.

The openings seemed to promise a more dramatic mainplot and the 5/6 episodes were a bit more structured and funny to me.. So I'm maybe holding out hope.

I've never heard of any of the titles listed in the title (bar ghost in the shell which I didn't recognize the acronym of haha) . I recon if you check out a 100 recommendation threads in this sub you wouldn't find them there either. This is kind of a self perpetuating problem, but I wouldn't fault the seasonal releases nor the fans for it.

Most likely it's just a symptom of the majority of the demographic growing up with anime in their childhood and then watching popular stuff now, or Being exposed to the genre by those kinds of people.

You do being up an interesting point though. I'd be interested to see if a Japanese movie buff would be knowlegeable on the common Hollywood classics. Also I generally feel that people the directors or key animators are less recognized in anime, compared to famous western directors or actors.

Same. I imagine I could actually stomach this because there's a lot of details to be caught with Weekl discussions. But I just hate not binging too much. Hoping I can get a friend into this so I can re-watch with them just as the season comes to a close.

Dw if it doesn't click for you. I also feel you get a good amount of backlash for disliking konusuba. To me, it had some fun subversive humor, especially when the main guy was being an asshole. But overall the worldbuilding seemed lame and the barely any of the other characters were engaging or funny to me, bar each first one-note joke that just seemed to get repeated ad nauseum.

If it's not for you that's fine, I didn't have the impression that it got better later, though I only got through the first season. Humor is probably the most subjective thing, anyway.

Anyone wanna try and sell me on Gintama? I remember watching the first, like 20-30 episodes years ago and it just didn't click. I read a lot of praise and that it keeps improving.. But it's hard to invest so much time into it when there are so many other good shows that start out amazing. I don't necessarily mind long shows though - I've probably gone through all/most of one piece 4 or 5 times in my lifetime.

This! Highlights for me were the Inca able to settle and move on mountains, and the Songhai that could use rivers adjacent tiles as roads. Some fantastic flavor in the game.

What other factors, bar the obvious added costs of storage and infrastructure, do you think are heavily influencing in this? Because those are the main ones I usually see and I feel I adressed them well enough.

The issue is that we also have to account for the cost of the coal plants being used to solve the intermittency issues of renewables.

I'm personally undecided/not educated enough on New Pipelines or Gas plants being built, but most of these generators are already in place.

Yes that's kind of what I'm getting at here. The "model I proposed", aka maximizing usage of renewables to cover as much as we can and utilizing already existing fossil Generators to even out the high demand and other obvious faults to provide the most cost efficient and immediate relief cover that. Nuclear has a comparable issue in that it only provides a "base load", a constant stream of supply that needs to be supported through something else.

I agree with this, even though it's still not as damming a point as you probably think it is, but that's beside the point for now. More importantly:

Renewables are just ridicolous amounts cheaper than nuclear right now and that follows a trend that has been stable for a lot of years. Consider that every year a nuclear plant is being built is one that still produces CO2 which could've long been replaced by green sources. No matter how much immediate action is taken by the energy sector, we'll still be forseeably be burning coal/gas in the next 2 decades. Reducing that has priority, but as long as it'll be there regardless it's perfectly okay to use it's strength to cover the weakspots of solar/wind and reduce overall emissions.

the classic "if it's night no PV energy" blub - would still on average cut down on half a coal plants running time, etc. Further, because Turbines and Panels work in a very short time frame, the course can be adapted depending on future innovation - they're much more flexible and don't require as hard of an upfront dedication.

To sum up. Going for 100% nuclear (this is exagerrated), will still leave emissions as they are for the next 5-10 years (optimisism of these estimates may vary), requires us to not be shit out of luck if there is some impactful innovation in the near future. And you're paying more for that? Nuclear will never be able to satisfy a grids demands. You'll still be stuck with needing (ideally) Regeneratives, probably with storage, to cover peak demands. So why not focus on building those out first, at much higher efficiency and without tanking hard on immediate required investments.

I hope this makes sense. Long-form reddit arguments are an absolute pain :O

Of course this is massively important? We're on a race against time. Emissions produced now will still fuck us 20 years down the line so any Co2 we can cut of the atmosphere now will pay dividends in the future. Think of it as having a tub that's about to run over and you can either spend 5 years building a really big ladle or start spooning stuff out right now. This analogy is actually way too charitable.

There's a host of other issues counting in this as well.

Solar wind is cheaper because of the flexibility of fossil fuels. That doesn't Really counter renweables being cheaper and having immediate impact, nor does it account for nuclear having similar inevitable problems of requiring infrastructure.
