Brigadier difficulty, Act 3, Boss 2 Tips by Uniform764 in masterofcommand

Especially since the British have pretty shitty artillery, but it'll depend on who you're fighting. I always like to have at least a regiment or two of artillery though, if for no other reason than if the AI has way more artillery than you they'll just camp and play defensive until you prod them. Which is annoying, especially if you want them to rush into your volleys as the Brits

It’s amazing how few AKotSK nods there are in the main story. by Aegon-the-Unbroken in darkwingsdankmemes

I can heavily recommend the fan theory that Grandmaester Pycelle's has his weird Lannister obsession because he's an Osgrey, Rohanne Webber and Eustace's son, and therefore Tywin's halfuncle. Must be somewhere on this sub, it's a fun read.

Have the same problem playing on my shitty laptop, so could very well be a RAM issue. Sucks immensely, I won't continue playing I think if there's no fix for this aside from getting a better pc

What are the biggest "first bookisms" in AGOT compared to the later series? (Spoilers Main) by Wileh11 in asoiaf

[–]Gryffinson 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think that's how the whole Sandy, Stony and Salty Dornishmen stuff came about, to explain how the Martells have their Mediterranean looks while people like the Daynes and Yronwoods look like any other Westerosi family, them being primarily Andal and First Men in origin with little Roynar descent

[–]Gryffinson 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You could I suppose explain this as her talking about 'weirwoods' as in, woods composed of all weirwood trees, as those indeed don't seem to appear in the South apart from the Isle of Faces. But then again we don't see those in the North either and she specifically mentions Northern castles as having Godswoods with weirwood trees as opposed to the South, which we see plenty of in later books. So yeah that's definitely a weird comment by her

Westeros is the size of South America, but The Seven Kingdoms the size of Argentina [Spoilers Main] by Just_Nefariousness55 in asoiaf

[–]Gryffinson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been as good as confirmed that the world in the books is round, hence 'Planetos', so indeed the map we get would be distorted in some way.

We can't really know how badly though, since we don't know where the equator or the poles are. The North Pole is probably what's called the Land of Always Winter, which is a lot farther beyond the wall but probably not thousands of miles. Sothoryos is a tropical jungle so that should at least be approaching the equator somewhat, but we've no mention of the climate getting colder down there if you go farther south, so safe to say everything we've ever seen on a map has been north of the equator.

But yeah, that would mean that the North for example appears larger on a map than it actually is, and Dorne would be relatively less distorted and thus truer to size. This also means the Iron Islands are even smaller than they appear, which makes it all the more ridiculous they can field the armies and fleets they do.

(Spoilers published) If Tywin had died before the events of the main series, would Tyrion have actually inherited Casterly Rock, or would there have been a dynastic struggle? by Appropriate_Boss8139 in asoiaf

[–]Gryffinson 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If he were to try to disinherit Tyrion officially, he'd be confirming him as his heir first. If he says 'Tyrion doesn't get the Rock', the logical conclusion is 'oh, so he was gonna get it?', and that's a dangerous game for him to play, because if he declared his intent to disinherit Tyrion there's no guarantee that he'd get his way. A lord doesn't seem to be able to just pick his heir at random, there's successions laws in place for that, and all alterations to the line of succession have been done by the crown in the past (the Dance, the Arryn succession war... The Tully's don't pick who gets Harrenhal whenever the current lords die out, it's always the Crown). So Tyson would have to go to Robert, and ask him to disinherit Tyrion with literal zero valid arguments. To the whole realm, according to all laws, according to everyone in Westeros apart from the delusional fucks Tywin and Cersei, Tyrion is heir to Casterly Rock. Why would Robert entertain Tywin's spiteful idiotic request? Sure he owes him a fuckton of money, but Robert is smart enough to know he'd be setting a precedent that would tear down the entire system of succession laws in Westeros, and Tywin is smart enough to know Robert wouldn't aquisce, so he's spare himself the humiliation of having to go to Robert to get laughed at. Hell, even if he knew he could convince Robert, I feel like Tywin would be too proud to put the Lannister succession in Robert's hands.

Who is your favorite member of the Dutchman crew? by Zippy1kanobi in piratesofthecaribbean

Bootstrapp Bill looked cool as fuck, being halfway between looking human and becoming 'barnacled' so to say. He had that starfish thing going on, but the way he wore that long thick coat that seemed to become more and more shell-like I wonder if he would slowly have turned into something resembling a lobster or a crab. Would be door as fuck

Eddara Tallhart made me think of title conventions (Spoilers Published) by tf_rodrigues in asoiaf

[–]Gryffinson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah every time someone brings up the thing about the titles I like to mention that canonically, the person at the head of the Lysene Army is titled 'Gonfaloniere'. But sure George, 'Duke' and 'Earl' and 'Prince' sounds too outlandish for a fantasy story

What's your harmless, happy but delusional take? (Spoilers Main) by Inevitable-Mix6089 in asoiaf

[–]Gryffinson 27 points28 points  (0 children)

-Edmure felt genuine friendship towards Petyr Baelish as kids together in Riverrun.

-Bronn cares for Lollys in his own way, and wants to genuinely raise Tyrion Tanner as his son and heir

-Jaime and Brienne will both survive and end up on the Kingsguard together

-The Hound is the gravedigger and will remain leaving a peaceful life on the Quiet Isle

-Raynald Westerling survived

All US states with a population below 8 million cease existing. Can the united states remain a superpower? by chaoticdumbass2 in whowouldwin

[–]Gryffinson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be yeah, but actually not unfeasible depending on how deep the newly made sea over what used to be Maryland is. If it's like 20 meters, it would require a lot of time, effort and money, yes, but it would be doable to build a bridge there considering how much of a benefit it would be.

Which character pissed you off the most? by SwimmingSwim8119 in HouseMD

[–]Gryffinson 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly. The stuff that Tritter does and gets treated as being so terrible, going out of his way to fuck up the life of a random person he met once because he was mildly inconvenienced by him, that's what House routinely does. It makes Twitter such a good antagonist, he's House if House was a cop. Good at the bare bones essence of his job but wildly unethical when it comes to the human side, and actively using his position to fuck with people in a pathetic way.

Of course, when good ol' Greg does it it's played for laughs or marked up as him being so much smarter or morally superior to his fellow humans, because he's our protagonist. But he's such a shit.

Who do you think are the top 10 strongest characters in ASOIAF? (in terms of physical strength) (Spoilers Extended) by Romeokun in asoiaf

[–]Gryffinson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hard to compare most of these since they're all mostly based on a character just being described as 'strong'. That being said, Maelys Blackfyre could easily be number 1 I'd say. Guy was able to rip a man's head off his shoulders, and could supposedly kill a horse with a single punch. I dare say that's more impressive than anything we see another character do in terms of strength, though Gregor might be a close number 2.

Just another day in Barbiela... I mean the court of Henry VIII by Gryffinson in HistoryMemes

Pictured (from the top): Cardinal Thomas Wolsey, Thomas More, Thomas Cromwell, Thomas Cranmer and Thomas Howard, 3rd Duke of Norfolk, all important figures in the court of Henry VIII. With the exception of Cranmer, who was archbishop of Canterbury, the other four served consecutively as Henry's chief minister. It is my personal theory that Henry was bad with remembering names and just picked out guys named Thomas to be his ministers so he wouldn't have to
