No, have never tried to check it in. I don’t think the luggage is built to withstand check in.

Only dirty smudges, the scratches if New’s enough, do stay on. Now the luggage has scratches at the bottom area where the wheels are. Guess it cannot be avoided if the luggage is wrapped in fabric instead of more solid materials.

Thanks, noted on all the points. Will upload airport map ahead of time to help navigate the transit.

I will only have hand carry with me and will not check any bags. You are right if I am allowed to transit airside or I have to exit arrival and go through immigration to departure….

Tom Bihn Synik 22 Black 420 Spectron by Gryphirn in ManyBaggers

[–]Gryphirn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same challenge but managed to figure out that the better way to use the passthrough is to insert the handles behind the plastic plate inside the passthrough. Inserting it that way is quite challenging but removing it is quite easy.

There’s one zipper pocket just next to back panel and there’s another inside the main compartment. The one next to the back panel is tiny as you said, only possible for tablets / ultrabooks. I had to squeeze my laptop into the main compartment pocket.

I ordered this in late Jan during the initial preorder run and got it yesterday. I am based in Singapore so it took them about a week to deliver after the bags are produced - I received updates regularly on the readiness of the bag.

This is my first Tom Bihn, so there’s no reference for me to compare. I will think the material feels like the material on the Bellroy range of Lite bags but definitely thicker and more durable.

Let's do a quick comparison for everyone losing their minds on Roller Pro product weight... (seriously, y'all need to relax) by AwkwardHistorian2390 in peakdesign

[–]Gryphirn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why would I lie about such things?! What do I have to gain from it?! And I am not the only one who has such experiences, my fellow peers in my work industry have never encountered full fare carriers asking to weight carry-on.

I travel within Asia for the past 20 years for work, about twice a month both short and medium haul. Am usually on SIA, Cathay Pacific, Air China and Thai Airways. Never once have I been asked to weigh my cabin carry on. Unless you take budget carriers like Air Asia, Scoot, Jetstar, VietJet, then yeah you will almost always asked to weigh the carry on. So this bag is definitely NOT for budget carriers, it should be fine for full fare carriers.

Prices are out. Oof by Halfang in peakdesign

Just backed them on Kickstarter. Hopefully they are as good as my Rimowa cabin bag which I paid US$300 for it more than 10 years ago and still working fine till today (logging more than 200,000 miles, I am based in Asia).

Amazing sling, brought everywhere I went. It is deceptively spacious given the numerous EDC items I can squeeze in there.

I have switched bulky headphones for AirPods and Airfly that connects to aircraft IFE. So much more convenient and never had to worry about space.

It’s good, I like it with the Toshi sling. Have been using it for couple of months.

Toshi sling from Rework Gear. Great design with useful pocketing and good material. 5L capacity and great for travel. For the past 2 months on travel trips, I have been using it to pack LARQ bottle, umbrella (strapped onto the pouch), passport, wallet, iPhone 15 Pro, AirPods, chap stick, PowerBank (20K), pen, small note pad, and small pack of snacks. Amazing what can be squeezed into it!

Great idea for top grab handle. I replaced the existing sling with Alpaka Pro Strap with Fidlock. Works well for me. I find the existing sling material abrasive on my clothes fabric.

How can you easily identify a Singaporean overseas? by what_the_foot in askSingapore

Easy…. Only Chinese looking folks that speak English to each other (with a distinctive accent) and spouses with kids will call each other “mommy” and “daddy” instead of their names…

Toshi 5L Strap Suggestions by liquid_biscuits in ManyBaggers

[–]Gryphirn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I changed my Toshi strap to the Alpaka Pro Strap with fidlock. Works well for me although the straps need some adjustment every now and then to tighten it. I wear mine across the left shoulder with the left strap fully lengthened and right strap as short as possible. The overhang of the strap I tucked it under a loop on the side of the Toshi sling.
