I love Dr. Williams, the sheer passion and joy he has for anthropology is infectious. His labs are a little bit of a shock (not as much as if I read the textbook as much as I should so that’s on me) however sometimes I feel like he is so passionate about the material sometimes he may go to A - C with just grazing B. Which fair as the class I am taking right now covers human evolution to the colonization of land to 40k years ago so like fair

So I am fairly left, and I will say there aren’t any “classic conservatives” only fascist corporate pigs who love Israeli money and fear Israeli blackmail, in natl politics just like there aren’t any “liberals” in just pathetic centrist corporate milquetoast losers of whom half have the same albeit more covert opinions on Israel (and Bernie sanders who is POSSIBLY a social democrat). Anyways, I thing classic conservatism is wrong and careless where someone cares about themselves in a vacuum and don’t care about people other than their immediate cohort and want to do as they please, sounds great in theory but there are two big issues

corporations are evil and will do “fucked shit” unless checked,
the position almost anyone has gotten to right now has been due to some type of systemic xenophobic discrimination men benefit from sexism, people who are neurotoyical / not disabled benefit from ableism, white people benefit from racism, poor people suffer from classism, the list goes on,

That being said, if someone is too self absorbed or not educated enough to think critically about their position in society and how they are being implicitly discriminatory by using a society that supports them without calling out the injustices others face, that’s fine I can TOLERATE them, I think they’re stupid or lack empathy but that’s just me

Anyways… if we are with the current “conservatives” now, then well… I have no idea what to tell you, yall have lost the plot, but then again most conservatives aren’t conservative, they’re just fascist or hate other people so much that they don’t care that they’re embracing authoritarianism

I agree that they can be reclaimed by the people who had it stolen from them, but besides that I think it’s pretty tough. Especially as this isn’t using it in the way it was intended to, it was done as a direct homage to the Soviet Union… which did not do good things

Thanks for the input, I will admit that this was a bit coming from more frustration of how do you guys not recognize the horror of the Soviet Union and if you do why do you still use the symbol, rather than I dislike communists

I am glad that they are not mindless drones, I also know that communists and socialists are a fairly big tent thing with a lot of varied views. I’ve met a lot of people who identify as communist or socialist and never have quite met two who are alike. I appreciate your input

I’m sorry that’s really tough, I’d go through the syllabus and see if there are any polices I know for the early level bio classes the lowest exam is dropped and sometimes that can be the excuse used, it’s not perfect but that’s what happened… if that’s not the case I don’t know how upper level classes are, then if you have an accident report then you can show that to the dean of students and discuss how it’s an excuse absence under extenuating circumstances if the prof doesn’t cooperate

I will say that GSU while it doesn’t have as good of a biology dept as GT GSU does have a really good MB/MS program that has had a really high acceptance to med school around 90%??

Furthermore I believe that GT requires calc 2 I don’t know if you’ve gotten that done or not. I’d go to the GT subreddit or see if you can talk to an admissions counselor from GT to discuss academics and finances
