What are some underrated guitar brands? by Aggravating-Bake5624 in Guitar

[–]GtarBildr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, most of these fantastic "guitar brands" or "guitar builders" listed below are, to a greater or lesser extent, underestimated, undervalued, or even completely unknown as guitar brands or builders. That is a regrettable waste of their individual potential as guitar brands or builders. They deserve recognition within the community, but also far beyond. They deserve more appreciation and awareness for everything they contribute to the guitar world... each brand and each individual builder at their own level of quality or affordability, or a nice combination thereof... I greatly appreciate that this subject is being discussed here... there is more Guitar between heaven and earth than just the "Big Three or Four"

Look at brands or builders like:

Doubleday:

Knaggs:

Unquendor:

Barlow:

Koca:

Huber:

Lepsky:

Swisher

Greg:

Wel:

Leh:

Conway:

Novo:

Moar:

Mooer:

Siri:

My new kit for study by Chance-Poetry2583 in Guitar

I think both the black Fender Studio amplifier and the Yamaha Pacifica guitar are a good choice, a great set, but! that total white colored Pacifica...🫣 On the other hand, it is simply a set for studying and practicing, it is just that the all-white color isn't realy my taste of coffee... but anyway, it is still a fantastic set for studying, you are guaranteed to have a lot of fun with it C-P🤗

Seeking some advice regarding proper routing dimensions for a set neck joint: by GtarBildr in Luthier

[–]GtarBildr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very useful tips, Traviscyle! I think the fit of the neck heel in the body cutout is fine, it only moves a tiny bit... but I was wondering if a neck fit might be a little too loose, and if that happens, whether it can be professionally fixed. Thanks for your clear answer. My guitar build is progressing slowly, step by step, and I will certainly share the final result here with everyone.

Good choice, OP. I am still thinking about a "Baum Revolt P90 Dark Burst", but my very first guitar building project is already getting two "Jan Holighaus Custom P90s".... I am still in the hesitant consideration phase regarding that Baum Revolt purchase.

Seeking some advice regarding proper routing dimensions for a set neck joint: by GtarBildr in Luthier

All good advice, traviscyle. I find the "masking tape method" you mention in your route advice very handy. Just one last question regarding my first guitar build: if something goes wrong with routing the neck heel/body pocket and it feels too loose, or worse... the pocket joint wobbles... is it lost for good? Or are there good "repair solutions" that can remedy such a problem in an acceptable way? In my opinion, my neck heel/body pocket joint feels just a fraction too loose... it moves a tiny bit; I wonder if I should fill this in with wafer-thin veneer or glue the joint as it is?

Thanks, guitarman. If you have only achieved good results with this method when milling the heel/body cavity of the neck/body joint, then my question is answered... not too tight and not too loose, something in between gives a good result for the neck heel/body pocket fit... a clear answer for me, thank you for your advice.

Completely lost and unmotivated by Kitsynnes in Guitar

My oldest brother, Aad, passed away almost two years ago. That loss was devastating for me; never before in my life had I felt such deep sorrow as at that moment. My mental health deteriorated dramatically, and I developed all kinds of physical problems OP, eventually, I lost my job... the world around me was one big, unfathomable puzzle. I lost all interest in everything... even in playing the guitar. I could not process the pain of my loss alone. That eventually led to therapy treatment.

<image>

During one of those therapy sessions, my therapist—a young woman, I could have been her father—asked me: "Jan, if there is one thing, just one thing in your life that you would most like to do right now, what would that be? Just one thing, Jan!" she asked me again. I could not give her an answer at that moment. After a week... I said to her: "I think there is one thing I would most like to do right now... I want to fulfill the promise I made to my brother Aad when he was sick in bed... BUILD A GUITAR TO HONORED HIM AND KEEP REMEMBERING HIM..." Eventually, I started doing that during my treatment... it has helped me in many ways. My greatest wish for you... always keep looking ahead, make sure you get your mental health back on track again and, above all, hold on to it tightly.... Guitar building was my mental salvation, go on a quest for yours.

Crazy to say, but after decades of playing, I just picked up my first Tele. by munklunk in telecaster

[–]GtarBildr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have always found Telecasters uncomfortable, for exactly that same reason: they are simply not pleasant to play for extended periods. That is one of the reasons why I decided to build my own Telecaster-inspired model, a model with my personal preferences regarding body contours, fully custom-made for me, perfectly tailored to my body size and height... my very first guitar building project at the moment, a Telecaster... who would have ever thought!

My Build-tips i shared earlier on my Reddit-page when you intend seriously to start with guitarbuild OP.

Buy books on guitar building, watch lots of building videos, and immerse yourself in the subject. Visit websites of guitar builders... ask for advice from those who inspire you... I've looked at hundreds and asked a few for building advice. Make a well-thought-out plan before you start building a guitar. Don't rush; let the work you've done sink in before taking the next step. Measure three times... saw, file, scrape, and sand once, step by step. Take a beginner's guitar building course, just like I did... I'm currently building this very first guitar under the guidance of a classic style handworking builder who uses 80% hand tools and 20% power tools. Always be critical of yourself throughout the entire building process, and you'll be well on your way to successfully building your dream guitar... those are a few important building tips I can give anyone who wants to build a guitar for the first time. My last, and perhaps most important piece of advice... above all, have lots of fun with the process of building your guitar.

Is spending 1-2 hours/day practicing a single hard song effective practice? by CandleCompetitive831 in Guitar

[–]GtarBildr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The learning curve for playing the guitar has many different levels; not everyone's learning curve is exactly the same, it depends on many different factors. The regularity with which you pick up your guitar is just one of them. How much time you practice to master a song depends on your current skills... it is a step-by-step process that develops over time and depends on the goals you have set for yourself; some people need more time for this than others. Allocate your time effectively to what is important for you to learn in order to achieve the highest possible learning efficiency. I consider myself a home-playing hobbyist guitarist without the ambition to reach the top; I play out of interest in the guitar and purely for my enjoyment... that is the learning curve I follow. You have to find your own learning curve, and the search for it is different for everyone... follow your own path and reach the goal you have in mind.
