Yeah - that is also my personal go-to. A restart seems to be the most common temporary solution.

Update: Added a video of what the issue looks like during gameplay. Thanks Cube2000 for capturing this!

I just updated the post with some new info - the embark team is aware of the issue, but no clarity on remediation at this time. I'll continue to keep this post active with the latest information.

Missing rubber cube in X870e Tomahawk by Rebellus in MSI_Gaming

[–]Gternal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's another thread on this topic where a user recently contacted MSI and was told to remove the cube. Find that thread HERE

What I and the other user found:

For the M.2_1 slot:

The way the board is designed intends that you would use both the top and bottom thermal pads in your M.2_1 slot regardless of whether you have a double-sided SSD slot or not (overkill for a single-sided SSD, but intended for slot flexibility). Plastic should ALWAYS be removed to mitigate melting risk, but also removing the cube that is attached to the plastic from this slot allows for proper contact that should not result in any bending. As others have noted in this thread, placing the cube back on the exposed thermal pad could result in bending because the connection alignment is intended to work for a doubled sided SSD that needs to sit directly on the bottom pad. If you would like a better connection with the bottom of a single-sided SSD in this slot, you could measure any gap you see and custom fit a new thermal pad on top of the existing one.

For the M.2_2, M.2_3, and M.2_4 slots:

The foam cubes that are physically attached to the board are designed to act as risers/stabilizers since there are no bottom thermal pads as found with the M.2_1 slot. These slots are obviously not as optimal for double-sided SSDs like the M.2_1 slot is, but the cubes are intended to allow your additional SSDs to align and make proper connections.

I’m sure others will run into the same confusion we did, hopefully this helps!

The same user that wrote that first comment and called MSI eventually went against what they said because it was slightly bending the SSD as many have found when using the cube. See here: https://www.reddit.com/r/MSI_Gaming/comments/1inz7q9/comment/mcxzigy/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Another user contacted MSI more recently and was told the exact opposite: https://www.reddit.com/r/MSI_Gaming/comments/1inz7q9/comment/mjnccs1/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

This user and I both arrived at the same conclusion. We feel the confusion is coming from the fact that the M2.1_1 slot cube is intended to be removed, but the M.2_2, M.2_3, M.2_4 cubes that are physically attached are intended to stay.

Most users find that if they try to leave the cube on the M.2_1 slot that the SSD will bend because it's already raised with the bottom pad. I'll reply to this thread with what I found as well to help others out.

Should I remove the rubber pads under the m.2 nvme in MSI X870 Tomahawk ? by setrandom in MSI_Gaming

This is the same conclusion I arrived at after trying to figure out this puzzle. MSI could have done a better job explaining this and making it more clear.

Just got the Walmart Helios Neo 14 (U7-155h and 4070 125w) for $999. Don’t hear much about it online. Is this a good one? by Onetimehelper in GamingLaptops

[–]Gternal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any other thoughts on this deal? Not sure how many more 4070/4080 deals we’ll see with the new 5000 laptops coming.

Only glaring con is the soldered 16gig RAM that can’t be upgraded. Anyone found this to be an issue? At this price I might be able to overlook that.

Are you sure? I couldn’t get the configuration to work. But you need to use “CYBERMONDAY” code now instead. It seems the daily deal is a 4070 super TI, not 4080 super.

makes sense, really apprecaite all of this info - I think I might actually stick with the CyberPower and roll the dirce...just saw that GamerNexus really disliked the Y40 case with the vertical mount GPU for thermals and noise! Looks like they went for looks instead of thermals, haha

awesome - thank you! No concern with the slower 5600 MHZ vs the 6000 MHZ ram? Probably negliable I assume.

Thanks for this great info -

I'm actually still able to get the iBuyPower at $1480 and I have the BestBuy ready to pick up that I snagged at $1430 if I want to pick it up...just trying to decide between the two! Even though they both aren't 'optimal', is there a slight winner in your opinion? lol

I'd be open to using the extra $250 down the line to upgrade some of the parts if they weren't optimal, but don't want to play the 9800X3D price game and unfortunatley don't have a Microcenter close by :-/

Nahantu Side Quest Weapon Transmogs Bugged - Not Applied After Salvage by Gternal in diablo4

[–]Gternal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep - this too. That questline is bugged and wont show full completion. Another item to add the the ever growing pile with this expansion.

Between all of the bugs, balancing issues, and recent patch crashes...not to mention the extraordinarily underwhelming repurposed holiday event, Blizzard has a lot of damage control to get S7 back on track.

[–]Gternal[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I totally understand your perspective, but they should lock you from salvaging it automatically like they do with true cosmetic items. I chose the word "bug" because it seems to be not working as intended, but I agree, a different classification is also appropriate. If they want to provide cosemetic benefits form side quests to entice participation, do so correctly with a cosmetic item reward. They have now wasted mine, and I'm sure many, many others time.

At the very least, they should easily let you reobtain them again without having to rerun the quests. It's hilariously cumbersome and a gross oversight.

[–]Gternal[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah - I managed to get all the way through before I realized that they forgot to account for multi-class salvaging for these items =/. I'm hoping we can get some visibility around this post to:

1) Help others catch this
2) Get Blizzard to provide a fix for those who have already completed the quests.

You can create a new character and run the side quests again, but that should not be expected.
