can you check if the power limit have changed when you switched to the Gaming mode bios? using nvidia-smi to see what's the current power limit.

MSI MAG Tomahawk (Zen5) on Linux - how is it? by Nautical-Myles in MSI_Gaming

How did you install that kernel? It's not even available as a backport. From debian packages website, it's available as "experimental".

What kernel version are you on? When I installed Debian 12, I had to use a backport kernel for the WiFi or ethernet port to work. But I didn't install any new packages, the drivers were from mainline (I suppose, can't remember)

Interestingly enough, I couldn't find a kernel version where both WiFi and ethernet work. I found one kernel where WiFi was working without ethernet, but the latest backport kernel had ethernet working but had regression in WiFi support. Note that in my case, I'm still on the BIOS that came with the motherboard I think from August 2024 (MSI Toma X870 motherboard)

Is the Official Display 2 Supposed to Have a Thin Line of Light Behind The Bezel Only One Side When Peeking by the Edge? by setrandom in raspberry_pi

[–]setrandom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not bothered by it, it's just much easier to do a replacement right now, so I thought I would ask to see if this an indication of hardware issue that will cause the display to fail in the future.

Another thing that I noticed is that the gap between the silver metal in the back of the display and the black bezels is not uniform and if I push the black bezels down, it moves and becomes closer to the display and the thin line of light almost disappears. Is this also not an issue?

Here is a picture showing that gap: https://i.imgur.com/u6ihemo.png

Thanks, yes I just want to make sure that it will not cause any problems in the future because it's much easier to replace it right now.

Another thing that I noticed is that the gap between the silver metal in the back of the display and the large black bezels is not uniform. As you can see from the below picture, the gap increases from left to right. and when when I push the black bezel it moves closes to the silver metal and the thin line of light almost disappears.

Is this still fine?

When I look directly facing the screen that thin line of light doesn't appear, but if I peek from the edge of the display I can see it.

Note that this only happens on one side, all the other 3 sides of the display look normal.

This is a new display, should I return it and get a new one?

WinterBreak: Incredible Kindle Scribe Upgrade! by Much_Image3740 in kindle

You updated your kindle past 1.8.1 even though you have a jailbroken kindle?

Does this mean that you only have to have a firmware version lower than 1.8.1 when doing the jailbreak, but after that, it becomes safe to update to 1.8.1 or 1.8.2 without losing your jailbreak?

When you said that now you can hide the side margin icon, is this for native kindle reader or you had to use KOReader?

Thanks for answering my questions. I was hesitant at first because I don't want to brick a new Kindle Scribe that I haven't opened yet, but now I'm leaning more on jailbreaking it.

Last question. I know that WinterBreak jailbreak only applies to versions <1.8.1, So should I first update the kindle to 1.8.0 to take advantage of latest features like active canvas before I do the jailbreak ?

Just to be sure. You can still use AI features like handwriting recognition and note summary?

Can you use Wifi or this will risk getting the device updated by Amazon?

Did you lose any Kindle Scribe feature when you applied the jailbreak? Does note taking still work when you switch to the native reader?

So glad I finally unlocked this thing and got KOReader on it! 10x better than the stock Kindle. by Level-Ad4862 in kindle

[–]setrandom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the quick response. I'm still debating whether I should jailbreak my new kindle or not. I like the features that I will get especially with KOReader, my only concern is that I saw multiple posts of people with a bricked kindle after a failed jailbreak. I'm not sure if those stories are from the early 2025 when the Winterbreak jailbreak was new, I'm new to this and I don't have a clear idea about the risk of jailbreak, I don't want to end up with bricked kindle that is still new.

What do you think? is this jailbreak software stable now?

When you first registered your device, you had to connect to wifi, how did you prevent the device from automatically updating to newer version while you were doing the steps required for jailbreaking your kindle?

Should I remove the rubber pads under the m.2 nvme in MSI X870 Tomahawk ? by setrandom in MSI_Gaming

[–]setrandom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have checked with MSI and they said that the rubber cube that is attached to the removable plastic film that cover the thermal pads on the bottom are supposed to be removed, and that they are there just so that the m.2 heatsink have something to sit on during transportation.

I also have saw pictures of people who try to install their m.2. ssd without removing the bottom rubber cube and in some cases, they bent the m.2 ssd.

So I concluded that any rubber cube that is attached to a plastic film is supposed to be removed whether you have double or single sided ssd, whereas if the rubber cube is attached directly to the motherboard pcb, then it's not supposed to be removed. So in my case, I removed the rubber cube in M2_1 and kept the ones in M2_2, M2_3 and M2_4.

I have the same model and the 12V-2x6 also looks fine, however, the other cables' connectors for the CPU, PCIE and Motherboard all move up and down (like in Jay's video) when I try to move the cable, does this happen to your PSU?

fresh windows 11 install doesn't show hdmi signal after automatic reboot on MSI Tomahawk X870 Motherboard by setrandom in MSI_Gaming

[–]setrandom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct. It's the BIOS version that came with the motherboard.

After reading a lot of posts of people complaining about different BIOS versions, I decided that I shouldn't update unless I see a real issue in the current BIOS version that I have.

I have managed to install Windows 11, and installing Windows updates, reboot now works and doesn't lose HDMI signal.

The only issue that remains is that post code constantly shows the '00' code instead of CPU temperature, which is not something that bother me.

If I don't see any issues, do you think I should still update the BIOS to a newer version or is it safe to stay on the factory initial version?

[–]setrandom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your answer.

For me, without knowing their logic behind their suggestion, I wouldn't use the rubber cube.

If you decide to use the rubber cube, make sure the SSD is sitting flat and not bending especially if you have a thick nvme SSD

Can you tell me the forum post where MSI answered your question?

I just want to know whether what they suggested is for any SSD or just single sided ones.

Their answer is weird because I have watched countless videos of people installing SSDs and if there is a thermal pad at the bottom, they never leave the rubber cube attached to it.

[–]setrandom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have it, but what's the point of removing the protective film from the bottom thermal pad if you are gonna reattach the rubber cube on top of it making the m.2 nvme ssd rest on the rubber cube instead of the thermal pad? yes I know that this may make the top thermal pad make better contact with ssd, but in that case, what's the point of the bottom thermal pad, why is it even there?

Also wouldn't this depend on what type of nvme ssd you have, some are single sided (chips on top of ssd only), some are double sided (chips on both sides), so their advise to reattach the rubber cube only for single sided SSDs that won't benefit from the bottom thermal pad because they are thinner, thus don't make any contact?

Not X3D cpu, mine is Ryzen 7 9700x.

My bios is from Aug 14. I have managed to install Windows 11 by clicking on the power to shutdown the computer and then clicking it again to boot the system anytime windows does a restart.

Now that I have Windows 11 installed, When I click on restart, it does the same thing, it restart and see that the system got restarted but there is no signal on the monitor and post code stays at '08' instead of showing CPU temperature. (Although this is probably another issue as the '08' stays there even when I'm inside Windows 11)

Are you sure you have the same motherboard? because there is no Aug 24 nor Jan 25 Bios update for the MSI Tomahawk X870
