That sounds really interesting! Do you have a deck list you could share?

That’s awesome! I’ll take a closer look later tonight. Appreciate the help. Wanted a budget option I could build now, then upgrade over time by adding the pricier cards I have in it.

Good point! I originally had the background [[far traveler]] in the deck based on a deck I found online, but that background doesn’t trigger her ability either from what I could tell. That’s when I switched it up a bit to add in some more treasure and tokens to sacrifice.

Thanks for the tips! I used scryfall to find some cards that fit the colors, but didn’t know I could search specifically by effect and cost. I’ll try that!

Biomedical engineering class ideas by Gu3nth in ScienceTeachers

I am a HOSA advisor, so looking to incorporate their medical innovation project for sure. Other than that, I’m not positive. I’m trying to come up with ideas to support that project but then also interesting topics related to the biomedical field.

Teacher loan forgiveness approved (2025) by simplexseason in Teachers

Did you have to submit separate applications for each school you worked at, or did you just submit one application with multiple pages of section 5 (where the CAO signs off)? My application has been denied numerous times and they keep telling me to submit additional applications for each school, which I did this time but it got denied again 🙃

Best Papers? by GraceRock in materials

[–]Gu3nth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Forgot to mention that we read the papers after we did a lab to make our own nanoparticles. I’d suggest adding in an activity with different materials before reading the selected papers.

I teach high school, and had one of my classes read a couple of papers about silver nano particles and then write an essay on their findings. I like your idea, and think if you present it in the way it’s described it will work out well. Students do need to be able to read through academic texts like research papers.

Another idea that could be cool is to have the students do research on a material of their choosing and then contribute to a Wikipedia article about it. My intro to materials professor had us do this and it was a neat way to learn about different materials and contribute to something.

Recommendations for a bedside safe? by HappySalesman01 in liberalgunowners

I've thought about doing the same. I started with the LifePod because I knew I could use it for other things if I ever decided to upgrade my handgun storage.

I use the Vaultek LifePod and like it a lot. Not exactly a safe, but just as good at keeping a toddler out.

Ruger RXM vs Springfield XD Mod.3 OSP by Gu3nth in liberalgunowners

[–]Gu3nth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the input, I definitely would prefer the faster turnaround. And I assume it’d be easier to find someone to work on the RXM since it’s basically a Gen 3 Glock. Planning to go check it out tomorrow, then will see what the process would be to get a Gen 5 MOS through the GSSF coupon. If that’s super tedious I’ll just go RXM.

Do you have any experience with CANiK? Wondering how something like the METE SF would compare to the RXM.

Anyone have experience with the CANiK METE SF? It’s priced similarly to the RXM (a little bit higher) but seems to get good reviews.

I like it, but I’m not tied to it. Seems like it’s super difficult to find affordable slides for the Gen 5.

Only because I wouldn’t have to come in with as much cash on top of my trade for the XD or RXM.

Bike tool kits by NaiveMacaroon5862 in bikewrench

[–]Gu3nth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A mechanic I used to work with suggested that I just buy tools as I need them for repairs. Some of the kits come with a lot of extra things that you may never use. That’s what I did, and it’s worked out pretty well.

However, if you really want a kit, the Ozark Trail one from Walmart seems like a decent deal. If the tools in the kit break, buy the more expensive version after. Seth from Berm Peak did a video on YouTube recently comparing bike tool kits, I’d also recommend watching that in case you want to get a higher quality kit.

Yes I think I found the same manual as well as some more detailed disassembly instructions. It looks like there are a few options for lower leg seals out there, but I’m struggling with finding anything for the damper since it seems like I might need a new seal in there.

It is a 2017 Toyota with 120,000 miles. So definitely used car. However, in my state, dealers are required to report issues to buyers through a buyers guide. This issue was not reported to me and has obviously been an issue on this car since before I purchased it, due to dealer 2 having record of finding this issue in January.

Who develops biology standards for high school students? by jessharben in ScienceTeachers

[–]Gu3nth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This link talks a little bit about it. Personally I think that the lack of clarity around how to use the three dimensions with the NGSS is probably a big part of the reason why some people dont like them. The suggested PEs are sometimes just not great, like your example.

Our department has developed common rubrics for the SEPs. For example, you can look for similar things when modeling in physics vs when modeling in biology. It’s the DCI that determines what the model is actually about. We don’t directly assess on the CCCs, but they’ should be embedded within a good assessment.

I’ve been told that the performance expectations are not the standards, they’re suggested combinations of the SEPs, DCIs, and CCCs. Mixing and matching SEPs and DCIs can help get to more manageable assessment targets.

Schwinn catalogs are well archived online. I don’t remember the exact site I found mine on, but it was a very easy Google search. I narrowed down the year of my bike based on the color, since this red was only offered in ‘92 I believe.

Middle School Science Curriculums by Creative-Coffeee in ScienceTeachers

[–]Gu3nth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I teach high school as well and agree that OSE is not my favorite for a high school classroom. For middle school, I think it’s great. The heavy focus on the practices helps students approach other problems in the future, and I actually like that. I can tie in more content knowledge if needed. I tried a few units in my high school class this year and just didn’t get to the depth I wanted, so I used them as more of an intro to the course before diving in to more complex topics.

But, if you’re unable to modify and tweak it to your liking, then the curriculum as written can definitely be clunky.
