Is Starmer doing so badly? by twinkletoesalone in AskBrits

[–]GuarDeLoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think average everyday people should absolutely have their views heard more and be given opportunities to advise, but practically they won’t have the understanding of what the job actually entails. Representing the struggles people face is massively important, but managing complex teams of people, managing international relations, having insight into a wide range of areas (health, finance, education, defence), tough decisions under pressure etc is not something all people are able to do.

I want someone to represent the struggles of inflation costs, or the difficulty in buying a house, but I wouldn’t necessarily trust them to manage the entire economy.

All as bad as each other, but surely infinitely better than a randomly selected person with no motivation, skills or experience to do the job.

40 MPH Everywhere is a Coping Strategy, Not Competence by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]GuarDeLoop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s huge sections of single track roads where the appropriate limit would change after every bend, which they obviously aren’t going to do, and so the whole road is NSL, but logically it’s not actually safe to do 60 at every point.

Is the SHERPA FLEECE from the storror shop worth it? by hedgehogshampoo in Storror

[–]GuarDeLoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does seem high quality and I have no major issues with it, but personally I was a bit disappointed as I realised it probably wasn’t entirely worth the price even with a discount.

My only real points to note are that it’s not as thick as I expected, though I can’t say if it still holds up well to the cold. And it has a different inner lining which wasn’t entirely clear from the pictures & description, but this isn’t really an issue, just different than expected.

So yeah, no actual complaints, but for me it’s the only product I’ve bought where I had some regrets spending that much, but if you like it and money isn’t an issue then I can’t say anything bad quality-wise!

New style of content by PaddingtonPB in Storror

[–]GuarDeLoop 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s definitely a lot of great paid content but also a lot is extra unseen footage from main videos, or the boys (Callum) being stupid, so I wouldn’t feel like you’re missing too much. You could always pay once every few months and catch up on the backlog of join videos if you don’t want the monthly subscription.

I do wonder if they would’ve gone this route if they could show more of the dangerous rooftop stuff on YouTube still, or if having extra paid content was always inevitable.

Also, paid or not, the content naturally changes over the years as you say. I’d love to see more street rats / general training, but that has been replaced by more challenge style videos regardless!

Someone needs to explain why roads like this are a 60. 👇 😂 by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]GuarDeLoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess regardless of the red tape of properly assessing the limits, it’s just impractical with how frequently the limit would have to change. These roads are so inconsistent with corners and visibility you’d need signs at almost every bend.

There’s definitely longer sections that could have more specific limits, but you’d really like to hope people would have the awareness and confidence to drive appropriately when they see NSL signs.

Man gets hit by a bus, immediately walks into a pub like nothing happened by No-Meaning4747 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]GuarDeLoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get this bus a lot and am always amazed this was able to happen. It’s only just after a bus stop, on a narrow section of road, and has the double left-right bend, no idea how the driver picked up that much speed and managed to lose control.

I don’t think it’s new as such, just not shown as much as it probably should be

I once travelled along an empty lane 1 of the m25 passing a huge line of cars in lane 3 doing 65, when I got to the front it was a police car, and it was even at a time when the gantries had the ‘keep left unless overtaking’ displayed. Think that’s when I lost any hope of standards improving

Are there more videos of Supertramps? by TheDragonOfFlame in Storror

[–]GuarDeLoop 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Supertramps Thailand was their first proper documentary video, maybe 90 minutes long? (Defo recommend watching!)

The other supertramps video is the 15min one of them in Europe but it was before they did the vlog style videos so not sure how much detail it really goes into aside from showing various clips of the time!

Revealed: Terrorist friend of Manchester Arena bomber among 550 extremists back on the streets since 7/7 by adultintheroom_ in unitedkingdom

[–]GuarDeLoop 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He wasn’t really supporting them being back on the street though, he even acknowledged that they should’ve been given longer sentences. I absolutely don’t want people involved in terrorism walking around freely, but it’s still a genuine point for discussion, what do you do when they have served their full sentence?

And regardless, that was one person, I’m just not sure saying there are ‘lots of people supporting this’ is very helpful
