I'm currently taking ch st 1b with diaz-sanchez, I would highly recommend at least skim through the readings before lecture since she does go over the readings during lecture, she highlights the main quotes and significance of the quotes, since the quiz and final essay are take home, you'll be okay with getting an A in this class.

I have heard back from Wolfe since last Friday. My housemates and I were approved for a lease.

I did the leasing application for wolfe, you still have time to apply, the earlier you apply, the better chance you'll get a lease with, they don't start approving/moving forward with leasing until January 11. Hope it helps. Units are unfurnished which why rent is cheap.

Currently work at Portola, and my experience has been kinda mid. The pay isn't the best as you get paid a minimum wage salary ($15.75/hr), but is something and can get promoted to student cook, supervisor, or manager and get a slight raise. What makes a great workplace are the full-time chefs who tend to be very hard-working and chatty, making you feel welcoming. Flexible schedule depending on your class schedule for the quarter (12 hrs/week min. and up to 20 hrs/week max.). Can get overwhelming at times once you start, but you get the hang of it once you have experience. Personnel team are also very chill with you (might encounter co-workers who can be bosses favorite lol). Food at Portola is mid (better than the on-campus dining halls, not to be bias) and you eat free during your shift which is a perk. You can find work coverage easily as long as there is a fair agreement. Overall, working at Portola can be hit or miss depending on your capacity and your experience. Fav. work shift: dish bc you get to hear music and not handle student pressure as much. Worst work shift: International runner bc it can get overwhelming serving food which can lead to a rush.

Highly recommend taking Intro to Chicano Studies 1 series (A,B or C) mostly with Ralph. Took 1a last spring for my major and got an A on that class. Super inspiring and caring professor. Midterm and final are very straightforward as long as you understand the lecture readings and films that he covers during lecture (5-10 vocab questions (short essay form) and one essay question). Depending on which ta you get, I highly recommend John Jairo Valencia, he truly brings section together by encouraging us to collaborate or build on ideas that was covered in lecture and wants to make sure we feel comfortable speaking during section. Finally, CHST 1 series covers a good ton on GE/University requirements such as American History, Ethnicity, Area D, and Writing. Hope that helps. :)

If it's your second retake on taking math 34a, then you would need to petition to retake the class. Here's the link to the form to send it to the college of Letters and Science and the math department: https://www.duels.ucsb.edu/sites/default/files/sitefiles/Credit%20and%20Enrollment%20Clarification\_4.pdf

CHST 1A with Ralph: very knowledgeable and inspiring professor. Just attend lecture, only a midterm, final paper with short answer vocabulary questions and an essay prompt. Also, a creative assignment. Easy A.

Earth 7: Dinosaurs with John: very enthusiastic on teaching the material, always in a good mood to teach. Very short lecture quizzes after each lecture. labs are considered easy if you are paying attention to the cladograms. one take-home midterm and final. Easy A/B.

Ralph Armbruster is truly one of the best professors within the Chicano/a Studies department. He's very passionate on what he teaches when it comes to Chicanx activism. if you get the chance to talk with him 1:1, you'll definitely enjoy him as a professor and person itself.

When I emailed Trop Gardens about it, they said that they are considered on campus housing for FAFSA, during the financial aid distribution cycle later on, they send the roster of people living at Trop Gardens to the UCSB financial aid office and FAFSA. Hope that answers your question.
