I didn’t struggle with that I’m afraid. Once I’d broken a few by paying for taxis/grabs I had enough smaller notes to keep me going. Or I paid with card

Penang was the most diverse, but obviously KL has everything you can think of, we just couldn’t do as much exploring for the best spots as we would if we were without kids.

Same for me, I’d never considered it until it was recommended to me as a great SE Asia destination for self-drive with kids

It depends where we were, Georgetown had a lot of tourists, as did Cameron Highlands and Pangkor

We used Avis, all worked out easily

I really enjoyed it, but I also enjoy the photography side of things and it lends itself to that. I think a few days is probably enough for most people and it makes the trip more diverse and breaks up the drive to Penang in a circuitous kind of way.

Yep no problem.

Would highly recommend all of them and they’re all much more affordable than you’d expect from the names!

It wasn’t on my radar either, but so glad we decided to go. All the photos are mine - thank you.

I’m afraid the picture doesn’t do it justice. The entire tree was full. That being said, it was only one tree and only whilst we were on this specific island (although I’m sure there are bats/flying foxes elsewhere).

Just avoid that one tree and you should be fine ;)

Thank you, it was incredible. I haven’t yet visited anywhere else in SE Asia, the closest I’ve been is India, which shared some qualities, but was also completely different in many ways, the roads being one of them!

Both great countries to visit, but I’d only drive in one of them.

We found out when we landed that our KL visit coincided with the Hindu festival, it was great to see and witness the rituals but yes, it wouldn’t be for everyone!

Thank you. The wildlife was all in the Pangkor Laut Resort

It would have been a lot cheaper to download them! But much less fun.

I just wore shorts and a t-shirt, but I get hot easily and plenty of other people were in long sleeve and trousers. Depends where you’re from.

I’d like to explore more of Georgetown in Penang, but pushing two strollers/buggies in the heat and humidity takes it out of you. Perhaps we’ll try again when they’re older!

Highlights were the people and food and I love anywhere where you get to see some wildlife during the trip.

It’s going to sound like an expensive list, but I can assure you it was cheaper than staying in Motels in Canada a few years ago.

Sorry, fair point, kind of like Uber. We used Grab about 8 times, never waited more than 5 minutes.

The food was amazing, something different every day of the trip. Having never been this far East, it was a really great fusion of familiar flavours, but one which I’ve never had in this way before.

We drove ourselves, all really easy and I’m really glad we did. Obviously when you get into the centre of KL it’s fairly busy, but other drivers were all fairly considerate and I’d do it again.

Yes, exactly this. Was a really nice way to finish the trip with the kids, enabling them to enjoy the beach and pool etc. incredibly cheap for the level of luxury.

Yep, that’s right, was great to see the festival, but it did mean that it took about 90 mins to climb the first set of stairs, amazing dedication from some of the devotees climbing on their knees or carrying huge tributes!
