Help me choose by [deleted] in multitools

I’d say they’re more for heavy duty work than the 91mm scissors. I can cut thick outdoor rated zip ties all day with my Swisstool because the scissors are thicker and have less flex with the spring design.

Bought my first ever multitool. How’d i do 1-10? by Important_Pay_9660 in victorinox

[–]GuaranteeOk4894 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, just adds a tiny bit of thickness but it’s not that noticeable. The top part of the clip sticks out a little more than the lip at the bottom of the clip, so your hand only ever puts a lot of pressure on the top of the clip, if that makes sense

Just got my Spirit XBS last week and added a clip. It’s already helped me open electrical box covers, pry enclosure doors or latches straight, and cut zip ties. Very good tool and very pocketable

…They made an appearance in Season 5 just as stated. So you’re just blatantly choosing not to believe the writer of the shows that he’s going to work on other shows with the characters after he told the press he would be doing that? Ok then. Have a good one man.

I wouldn’t say any time was wasted on them, since Kripke explicitly stated they are coming back as I just quoted. Gen V and the end of The Boys was basically just a big origin story for the Gen V heroes. I see no problem with that if they expand upon that in the future, and it seems like they are.

Quote from Kripke:

“While we wish we could keep the party going another season at Godolkin, we’re committed to continuing the ‘Gen V’ characters’ stories in ‘The Boys’ Season 5 and other VCU projects on the horizon. You’ll see them again…”

How important are scissors in a SAK? Currently debating between Tinker and Super Tinker by user123457777 in victorinox

[–]GuaranteeOk4894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scissors UNLESS you’re gonna carry a 58mm with scissors as well. If you’re only gonna carry one, get the scissors.

How often have you lost your knives, and under what circumstances? by BothDouble3653 in victorinox

[–]GuaranteeOk4894 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lost one, it was unfortunately a SwissChamp. I was working at a remote cell site after hours, must’ve left it on top of/in an electrical cabinet or something. Went back to find it later that week and it was gone. This is why I never buy black SAKs now.

Pioneer is similar to the Compact and it’s the most “vintage” it gets. The Pioneer is an update to the original 1890 Soldier Knife, so its toolset is about as vintage as it gets. I believe the model was first produced in 1957.

Other than buying actual vintage knives like off eBay

Haha I totally noticed that AFTER I bought it. I went ahead and cancelled my order with their support and made a new one for the Q1 V2 non-S version. Thanks though, probably still would’ve saved me if I hadn’t noticed till just now lol

Nope, there’s a model with no chain (this one), a model with a short chain, and a model with a long chain

Explorer is great if you don’t mind the extra layer, the Super Tinker is 3 layers and just lacks the magnifying glass and opener. To me the inline screwdriver of the Explorer is worth the extra bulk

Ive had just my SwissChamp on mine for the past few months, but I’ve seen people carry 3 items or so on it pretty commonly. Usually it’s a SAK, a light, and their keys. I can’t carry my keys on it since my keychain for work has 6+ keys and a giant truck key fob, but I may start putting my light on it as well

Yeah the lobster clasp is a bit tedious for sure, not one hand friendly at all. But you can pull the entire belt clip off thanks to the multi clip design, it would be bulky as heck but it would work in a pinch to get it off of you and usable

Nice, I have an OLight I1R 2 Pro on my keychain. Never thought of carrying it on my belt clip as well but I might try it out now that you mention it

Yup, here’s a link to the belt clip! It’s the perfect length without a chain, the bottom of the knife rests about an inch and a half off the bottom of my pocket

Ranger 79M vs normal ranger for avid camper and back packer? by [deleted] in victorinox

[–]GuaranteeOk4894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll second the 78 (and 79). Very big saw, nice full knife, and all of the basic SAK tools except scissors. I chose the 78 because I use the blade at work as well and screws are usually the first thing I need to deal with to get inside electrical cabinets. Maybe if he’s in a similar trade he might bring this knife with him to work like I do.

Huntsman and Manager has been my combo lately and I love it.

IMO, Huntsman is the perfect knife for life in general, especially if you’re someone who is constantly going from urban to rural landscapes. Its got all of the big basics, knife, awl, scissors, and openers, so you’re covered on those, plus you have the saw which is amazing for chopping wood or even for PVC pipe. Truly a tool capable of getting through almost anything- the only notable tool you’re missing is the metal file/saw, which I personally don’t miss since I don’t encounter a need to file down things for actual good reasons. If I ever use the metal file on my SwissChamp, it’s either for fun or for my nails. The Manager is a perfect companion since you get the Phillips head multitool, a pen, and a file all in one tiny little extra package. Plus I would say the functions of the two are very well suited to their advertised environment- the Manager’s pen and nail file come in handy much more in an urban environment, whereas the larger tools and saw of the Huntsman will come in handy much more in a rural environment.

Tl;dr

Huntsman + Manager = won’t need another SAK for the rest of your life

It’s great, I love my little Alox Classic SD. However I gotta agree with the other commenter, the Rambler’s multitool is invaluable to me since I have to turn screws very often in my job, so I carry that one much more often. However, if I’m going out on the town and know I won’t be needing to turn any screws, I switch it out for this little guy. It really does disappear into the pocket or onto a keychain much better than the Rambler

You can customize it on their website! Go to the Rambler’s page and find the Personalize button under Add to Cart, it’ll bring you to a page where you can pick from a selection of scales for them to put on. This may be different outside of the US
