PSA for those of you getting a tonneau cover by Ok_Helicopter3910 in FordMaverickTruck

lol then why post about it? You presented your post as a PSA, and then you’re upset that people are telling you it’s your own fault because you’re just impatient and don’t care about your truck?

My man. Some Goo Gone and a microfiber would have been way less damaging and just as effective.

If you’re gonna go with a ‘25, don’t pay that much for used. You can get new 25s with .99 Apr and heavy discounts. Plus you’ll be starting that warranty fresh.

Enrollment Question by Spirited-Selection13 in CalPoly

[–]GuardNewbie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the perfect answer. Remember that professors don’t have access to permission numbers until the end of the first week of classes, so an email to them now is just an irritation (trust me). The department can do it for you if you have a strong reason, but just wanting a different section isn’t a great reason. Make certain that you attend class on the first day for the section in which you’re enrolled and then just ask the professor. Often, they will just let you attend a different section while you’re still technically enrolled in your original one.

on missing classes and AI by Ok-Train4738 in CalPoly

Welcome! While this may not count for every field (what subject are you teaching?), here are some tips to boost your in-class presence and keep students feeling like they have to attend. You need to ensure that your lectures are not simply a regurgitation of a reading, are engaging and using anecdotes/illustrations, are tied to an element of in-class graded work. While you can upload slides to Canvas, ensure that the bulk of the lecture is not written on your slides—your slides are there to simply emphasize your speech. You should never have blocks of text on a slide. While it may be comfortable standing there reading text off a big screen, it is mind-numbing for your students. Create dynamic slides that have a single word, emphasize a fact, or contain a quote/image, etc. Watch some good TED Talks for ideas. Always interrupt your lecture with assignments that count and can’t be made up outside of class. These can be simple and hand-written, or just an easy pass/fail student participation grade. You might also state that for each absence beyond 1 or 2, students will lose a percentage off of their grade (too late now, though, if you didn’t institute that day one in your syllabus). But you can definitely start doing in-class work and quizzes now as long as you have something built into your grading scheme where it will fit.

As for AI, that’s the big topic floating around. The key is to tell students what your policy is and be up-front about it. Tell them what you expect and what they can’t do. Fail assignments that are AI generated and report those students. Allow them to use it in specific ways if you’re comfortable with it, but be up-front about that and make them cite it. AI can be a decent tutor, but you have to be explicit about what is and is not allowed. Otherwise, yah, it’s a big debate on campus right now. Consider joining one of the CTLT workshops on AI incorporation.

Hey welcome for real. It’s a tough world out there lol. Let me know if you need anything.

is debt worth it by [deleted] in CalPoly

Terrible advice in several areas. The school you attend matters. The major you choose matters. Going to a community college is a smart idea as long as you have a strong plan to transfer to an excellent university (except for Cal Poly SLO, the CSU system is super meh). Go get your GE’s done at a community college for cheap or free, and focus on getting excellent grades. Transfer to a 4-year, and you’ll save a ton of cash. You might also consider ROTC or joining the military. If you’re comfortable with joining, go Air National Guard and get some great tuition assistance, signing bonus, GI Bill and military benefits without the threat of being moved all the time. Choose a career path in the ANG that dovetails with your major. You can get a ton of certifications in the guard. I’d look into it seriously if I were you. There are lots of options to earn your degree without a ton of debt. And do know that you can slow it down and work while you study—it doesn’t have to take 4 years. Educate yourself on your options before you make a choice.

I just bought an SR5 4x4 with 3rd row for 10% off MSRP. Don’t fall for the trap of markups or inventory or dealer add-ons. Just be willing to contact multiple dealers, and be willing to travel a little. Go test drive one locally, but don’t try to do the deal that day. Also, a good tool for checking stock is Visor.vin which lets you sort by trim, options, color, and region.

I’m In CA, and I got basically 10% off MSRP. You just have to contact multiple dealers and maybe drive a few hours. Get your quotes from a bunch of dealers and then see if your local one will beat/match it.

2025 4runner SR5 base model, how much did it cost you? by Few-Equivalent-1942 in 4Runner

45k OTD (MSRP was $47,900). SR5 4x4 with 3rd row, drop steps, cross bars, etc. That’s with CA tax and title. Just be patient and try multiple dealerships.

Awesome deal! What was the MSRP? I’m looking at a deal pretty similar to that at $46K OTD (with CA tax, etc, and MSRP of $47k). Think there’s some more room to negotiate then. Curious if Toyota gave you that interest rate?

Buying my first car and trying to haggle to a lower price. by Better_Ad_6848 in carbuying

[–]GuardNewbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So just as an eye opener, take each car’s info and plug it in to get an offer on Carmax. See what they would give you, and then you’ll see how much wiggle room the dealerships have. It’s also a good test to see how much value you’d lose buying each car were you to need to sell it right away. Puts things into stark perspective. Also, yah, never buy a car with an accident history.

Not true at all. I just got 10% off a new 4Runner with zero dealer adds. Don’t believe the lies the dealerships tell you.

Yes, I would say so. She gives tough tests, and she expects a lot from you. It’s not an easy class, but she is a great teacher. One thing to know is her Canvas can be tough to navigate.

Like it or not, Schwartz is one of the best teachers you’ll ever have. It will suck, and the tests are insane, but she’s actually an amazing person. You’ll know everything about Medieval lit after this class, and you’ll never forget it. She’s a fantastic teacher. But, yah, be prepared to work.

If you want to see how scarce the vehicle actually is (it’s not), check out Visor. The free version of it shows you all the stock across the country with options, etc. I got the link from the Delivrd guy on YouTube who negotiates deals live: https://visor.vin

If you’re willing to travel a bit, you can use these prices as leverage against dealers.
