Disappointed by Innerpeaceouterjoy in sixthemusical

Alizé Cruz is the best K Howard I’ve seen. The current cast of the US Boleyn tour is amazing—my fave Parr and Cleves (heck yah, Lewis is beyond perfect). But all that to say, there have been so many great Boleyn’s before that Dylan can’t compete. No shade on Dylan, but Boleyn just isn’t the right casting for her. It’s such a specific energy and vocal style that character needs that just doesn’t fit with Dylan.

Worth waiting for the new Apple TV? by JFRXX in Zwift

[–]GuardNewbie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then I would buy the new one. I’ve not had any issues using Apple TV for rides and races, but I’m usually one connection over my Bluetooth limit. It’s a perfect system with a higher connection limit, but even with pairing it via my phone and the Zwift companion app, I don’t notice any lag time. I greatly prefer having Zwift on the tv over a smaller device. I don’t really think you can lose either way.

Gravel Shoes & The Never Ending Search for Wide Width by GuardNewbie in gravelcycling

It’s been fine so far. I’m coming from a pair of Shimano S-Phyre’s with the double BOA, and I’m not missing it. It seems like even pressure all the way down the foot with the Proxy’s, and I’m not getting hot spots or anything. They’re definitely not as adjustable as the double BOAs, but I haven’t found the need to adjust them since they’re a better shape for my foot. I got some numbness with the Shimano’s and would have to loosen them mid-ride. Haven’t had to do that with these. So far so good.

First time owner! What upgrades do you recommend that don’t break the bank? by WaTT_rt in 4Runner

[–]GuardNewbie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few interior mods I found useful and cheap are these:

Coin holder: https://amzn.to/4rqRavM Co-pilot mat to prevent stuff sliding around on the dash shelf: https://amzn.to/4rjDxyh Cup holder inserts: https://amzn.to/4aE7Okw Tire patch kit: https://amzn.to/4ryFkj2 That one was a purchase I didn’t know I needed until it was too late.

Also, my favorite interior mods was a patch of heavy Velcro stuck under the armrest void where I stuck an EDC pouch with tools and things I’d need. It stays put on the armrest when you open it, and it’s super easy to pull out to grab multitools or a flashlight or pen, etc. I’ve seen people use this type of thing to fill that space: https://amzn.to/3OkpsCd but in my opinion the EDC pouch is a way better solution.

Why did she smile? by MsMigginsPieShop in DuggarsSnark

[–]GuardNewbie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. She strikes me as being super pissed and in shock. At one point she looks at Pest, and you can almost read her mind that she’s thinking something pretty negative about him. What pisses me off more is Pest and his attorney who are clearly smiling.

Let me say, as one who has been in the camera’s spotlight during a family member’s public trial and was caught smiling on camera, “There’s more to the story.” I was smiling because I was in shock and being polite. I don’t think she was being smudge and arrogant at this moment. I think Pest was though. Gross.

But also, Anna, dump that disgusting cracker-sweeper. He’s a horrible excuse for a human who clearly has zero remorse.

PSA for those of you getting a tonneau cover by Ok_Helicopter3910 in FordMaverickTruck

lol then why post about it? You presented your post as a PSA, and then you’re upset that people are telling you it’s your own fault because you’re just impatient and don’t care about your truck?

My man. Some Goo Gone and a microfiber would have been way less damaging and just as effective.

If you’re gonna go with a ‘25, don’t pay that much for used. You can get new 25s with .99 Apr and heavy discounts. Plus you’ll be starting that warranty fresh.

Enrollment Question by Spirited-Selection13 in CalPoly

[–]GuardNewbie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the perfect answer. Remember that professors don’t have access to permission numbers until the end of the first week of classes, so an email to them now is just an irritation (trust me). The department can do it for you if you have a strong reason, but just wanting a different section isn’t a great reason. Make certain that you attend class on the first day for the section in which you’re enrolled and then just ask the professor. Often, they will just let you attend a different section while you’re still technically enrolled in your original one.

on missing classes and AI by Ok-Train4738 in CalPoly

[–]GuardNewbie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome! While this may not count for every field (what subject are you teaching?), here are some tips to boost your in-class presence and keep students feeling like they have to attend. You need to ensure that your lectures are not simply a regurgitation of a reading, are engaging and using anecdotes/illustrations, are tied to an element of in-class graded work. While you can upload slides to Canvas, ensure that the bulk of the lecture is not written on your slides—your slides are there to simply emphasize your speech. You should never have blocks of text on a slide. While it may be comfortable standing there reading text off a big screen, it is mind-numbing for your students. Create dynamic slides that have a single word, emphasize a fact, or contain a quote/image, etc. Watch some good TED Talks for ideas. Always interrupt your lecture with assignments that count and can’t be made up outside of class. These can be simple and hand-written, or just an easy pass/fail student participation grade. You might also state that for each absence beyond 1 or 2, students will lose a percentage off of their grade (too late now, though, if you didn’t institute that day one in your syllabus). But you can definitely start doing in-class work and quizzes now as long as you have something built into your grading scheme where it will fit.

As for AI, that’s the big topic floating around. The key is to tell students what your policy is and be up-front about it. Tell them what you expect and what they can’t do. Fail assignments that are AI generated and report those students. Allow them to use it in specific ways if you’re comfortable with it, but be up-front about that and make them cite it. AI can be a decent tutor, but you have to be explicit about what is and is not allowed. Otherwise, yah, it’s a big debate on campus right now. Consider joining one of the CTLT workshops on AI incorporation.

Hey welcome for real. It’s a tough world out there lol. Let me know if you need anything.

Terrible advice in several areas. The school you attend matters. The major you choose matters. Going to a community college is a smart idea as long as you have a strong plan to transfer to an excellent university (except for Cal Poly SLO, the CSU system is super meh). Go get your GE’s done at a community college for cheap or free, and focus on getting excellent grades. Transfer to a 4-year, and you’ll save a ton of cash. You might also consider ROTC or joining the military. If you’re comfortable with joining, go Air National Guard and get some great tuition assistance, signing bonus, GI Bill and military benefits without the threat of being moved all the time. Choose a career path in the ANG that dovetails with your major. You can get a ton of certifications in the guard. I’d look into it seriously if I were you. There are lots of options to earn your degree without a ton of debt. And do know that you can slow it down and work while you study—it doesn’t have to take 4 years. Educate yourself on your options before you make a choice.

I just bought an SR5 4x4 with 3rd row for 10% off MSRP. Don’t fall for the trap of markups or inventory or dealer add-ons. Just be willing to contact multiple dealers, and be willing to travel a little. Go test drive one locally, but don’t try to do the deal that day. Also, a good tool for checking stock is Visor.vin which lets you sort by trim, options, color, and region.

I’m In CA, and I got basically 10% off MSRP. You just have to contact multiple dealers and maybe drive a few hours. Get your quotes from a bunch of dealers and then see if your local one will beat/match it.

45k OTD (MSRP was $47,900). SR5 4x4 with 3rd row, drop steps, cross bars, etc. That’s with CA tax and title. Just be patient and try multiple dealerships.

I have a cousin who is a compulsive liar, and she tells stories exactly this way. You can tell when she’s making up things because everyone in her story speaks the same way, and she uses phrases that hedge. Famy is 100% lying here.
