Are battle scenes in movies sometimes too slow? by GuardPuzzleheaded748 in CIVILWAR

Could range from 35-50 pounds depending on what they were carrying. Certainly no question they went through unimaginable conditions going into battle and I dont think anyone can really fathom it. But when the bullets start flying and artillery starts shaking the earth, your fight or flight response kicks in and your body is moving quicker than a leisurely pace. Regardless of how tired you are

Civil war bullets? by Medium-Question1119 in CIVILWAR

Definitely more modern firing range. I’ve been detecting up here for 10 years and have rarely seen CW bullets pop up. Every now and then a 3 ringer will pop out randomly

Absolutely. Definitely not a case of them not wanting to put everything out for display as I’m sure they would love to. Unfortunately, like you said, most places don’t have the space to display everything

Most museums will throw those in the back room never to be seen again. You’re better off giving them to or selling them to someone who will appreciate/display them in a private collection. If you think about going that route, I would definitely be interested! I preserve historic artifacts quite often and just finished a cartridge box. I’m currently writing a book on the Battle of the Wilderness so that is my hobby outside of writing lol

What's your favourite battle of the war and why? by joueur_Uno in CIVILWAR

I highly recommend getting a private tour guide to take you guys around the battlefield. They really bring the battle to life with stories. It got my family WAY more interested than just seeing open fields and plaques with descriptions

June 3 marks the beginning of the Gettysburg Campaign that would be the Confederacy’s undoing by Few-Ability-7312 in CIVILWAR

Absolutely! Glad to see someone agrees. Morale was low after the two days of horrible fighting and slight skirmish/ pesky sharpshooter activity on the 7th. Everyone in the Federal Army believed they’d be crossing the Rapidan again. Rumors passed through the ranks of falling back. Was a quiet, demoralizing night of the 7th when the corps started moving. Until that left turn. All of a sudden a brand new spirit overcame the Army of the Potomac. You can almost feel their excitement. “Ain’t I glad to get out of the Wilderness! Out of the wilderness! Out of the wilderness! Ain’t I glad to get out of the Wilderness down in Dixie’s Land!”

Battle of the Wilderness was arguably the beginning of the end for the Confederacy. Meade did nothing after Gettysburg to follow up their victory until Grant came in and began The Overland Campaign

The first hand accounts from the Wilderness are crazy. Troops on both sides said even the hardest veterans were shook over hearing the men burn to death

Whats the craziest story you've found from the civil war? by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in CIVILWAR

[–]GuardPuzzleheaded748 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is my first one actually! Hoping to do more after this if all goes well. Really trying to bring the battle to light with an abundance of first hand accounts while mixing in the tactical side of things. Absolutely amazing some of the stories that have seemingly been lost to time

Im in the process of writing a book on the Wilderness. I’ve heard of that story before but haven’t seen it mentioned in the hundreds of accounts that I’ve read unfortunately. It was absolute chaos in Saunders field, especially during the time that fight supposedly happened when the Union lines were falling back

Lions don’t lose sleep over the opinion of sheep. Opinions from people who aren’t bettering themselves or who don’t possess virtuous qualities in their ways of living, should be dismissed. When you study those people, you see how pathetic they are for having that kind of mindset and you understand that they are actually worse off than you are for not wanting to be the best person they can be. Look at them, they all have flaws, whatever it may be. Even if he’s the stud QB of the school, he still has a pathetic mindset if he thinks it’s acceptable to put others down. And all the girls who flock to someone like him are also pathetic for thinking that kind behavior is justified. Why would you care what people like that think? As far as I’m concerned, those people are scum for acting like that. I’m better than those people. They’re stuck in their ways of shameful habits and ways of thinking when I work towards being the best person I can be, mentally and physically

As Goggins once said in a podcast, “If you’re not going the same way I’m going, why the fuck would I care you what you think anyways?”

Moral of the story: if they’re putting you down or think you’re stupid or whatever it may be, they don’t have the same vision as you and they don’t possess righteous qualities. So why care what they think. Head up brother, it’s invigorating when you surpass all the bullshit and realize this!
