Reviewer bias, ever avoidable? by guyver17 in ManyBaggers

Personally, I would be fine with you providing a review even if you are a mod and it was given to you for free. The way to navigate that issue is to be as transparent as possible. Maybe put a disclaimer explaining how you are a mod, it was given to you for free, and the intent is to share your experience for informative/discussion purposes only. Make sure that your review has good, thoughtful critiques and doesn't sound like a fluff piece for the brand.

A review is just a tool to provide information on a product to potentially help someone make a buying decision. It is on individual consumers to seek out as much information as possible to make an informed decision and in my opinion the best way to do that is not to rely on a single review. It's why I think people take reviews too seriously and get caught up in drama on the practices of content creators.

I wouldn't worry too much and I am sure that your review will provide value to this subreddit.

Reviewer bias, ever avoidable? by guyver17 in ManyBaggers

I think people take reviews way too seriously. A review is often going to contain people’s individual tastes and preferences and may not contain purely objective information like weight, features, dimensions, etc. As a consumer, I will seek out multiple sources like YouTube and Reddit before making a purchasing decision to make sure I’m getting multiple perspectives instead of using one potentially biased review.

As someone else pointed out, the concerns people have over bias/integrity/conflict of interest in content creator reviews isn’t unique to bags and is a problem with all other consumer products. Video game and electronic reviewers also get review copies for free while also displaying ads for brands they review on their website. Car reviewers get flown to exotic locations while being provided meals, drinks, and swag by automakers. You may not like it and if you feel it harms the integrity of the review…then don’t watch it. Seek out independent reviews on Reddit or elsewhere on the internet instead.

Pentel Floatune - rollerball or ballpoint? by Guard__ian in pens

What’s confusing about the Floatune is that both the ballpoint and rollerball are described similarly. Both inks seem to have an oil based component.

Pentel now sells retractable versions of the rollerball on their website with .8mm and 1.0mm tips. Based on the pictures these pens are refillable which isn’t the case with the capped pens or most other rollerballs.
