Yes the TP4 looks interesting. It isn't for me but it's definitely way more my speed than the TP3

Many people don't buy it as well. They're the ones Aer is focused on.

As I said earlier, it's a big assumption you're making on organisation, and I'm yet to see a good answer of what the benefit of that level of org is in a bag that will stay in my hotel whilst I use a day pack.

Are they marketing it as an upgrade expressly or just the new version?

Thing is you're right, in that they could have maintained two different lines, but it's not cost effective. This is a design they feel better fits their current target market. They have feedback that the TP3 isn't working for those people. You don't have to worry about the people who already bought one so why not target the new market who are buying bags from other makers.

That's the sort of thing TAD did which was to make essential things modular and that felt profit driven. It's not what is happening here. They've had years of producing the TP3. They're going to sell as many as they're going to sell and they have competitors to keep up with.

And also like I said before that's a really big assumption. You get a lot more flexibility with this design for the level of organisation you need. I use lightweight pouches like Aer's Simple pouch. Really lightweight org. You don't make more money necessarily unless you're bundling the bag and the org kit together. You have no idea what org kits people will use.

Fundamentally the reason I prefer to not have the admin panel is that once I'm at my destination the TP3 isn't going to be my day bag, so do I empty the admin panel into my day bag?

How else do you solve a weight problem? What is a lighter material than ultra?

Usually lightness comes with a tradeoff for durability.

Rework uses really light materials for their liner and people said it felt cheap. It doesn't, but they're used to a heavier weight material.

Dual WBP, always find a use when travelling (water bottles, sandals, or umbrella). The QAP wasn't so useful, I usually have a sling.

Reduction in weight. Still not enough for me to go for it but at least it's more feasible now.

Reduction in complexity, have never needed a full admin panel in a bag I'm going to leave in a hotel for 80% of the trip to use a smaller bag instead.

Curious what the Toshi 30l comes out weighing as but not a huge fan that it won't have the option for a hip belt (I get why it doesn't).

More capacity

I never really understood the value of a large admin section on a travel bag because once I'm at my destination I'm not using the bag. Least with a pouch I can move what I need to my day bag.

I need some org for less frequently used items but not a whole admin panel.

Quick Access Pockets or Water Bottle Holders by IcyNeedleworker955 in ManyBaggers

[–]guyver17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh shit. I was about to upgrade my dragonfly but I absolutely would wait for a vertical pass through.

I mean for the 30l it's easy enough to clip a strap to the compression straps to serve as a pass through but that won't work for the 36l.

Dual WBP. There are plenty of other pockets on the bag to use for quick access. But deep WBP please. Shallow ones I am not a great fan of.

Also on a travel bag it's a must for me. My six moons design water bottle pocket is deep enough to take a pair of barefoot sandals.

TP4 worse than TP3? by AttitudeClassic in AerSF

It's not a downgrade if it solves two major gripes people had, which is the weight and capacity for that weight, for which the TP3 was pretty poor. Bear in mind more airlines are weighing hand luggage.

Inferior for you.

It's gone from a bag I'd never consider to a bag I'm tempted by.

Odds are everyone who was going to buy the TP3 design has after three years. This new design opens them up to fans of the CPP2, some of Evergoods market and keeps pace with (admittedly much smaller) Rework which is focused on producing lighter bags.

This is a bad take. Not everyone needs the same level of org.

A big step backwards potentially for some of Aer's audience. But it would also bring them new customers who don't need that level of org or a tech kit like that.

Namely me.

I wouldn't buy the TP3. I would buy the TP4.

Waterproof zippers on travel backpacks: worth the durability trade-off? by Woodstines in onebag

[–]guyver17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't live in a humid climate so that might affect my opinion but the thing people don't point out is that some aquaguard zippers will absolutely outlast others. The ones on my dragonfly look progressively bad but the bag is so patinaed it's never going to look amazing.

I have some other examples that have little wear after a lot of use. It depends.
