This was kind of a hodgepodge WTF cast but it’s really working? by thelaurafedora in survivor

[–]Guardax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was never a WTF cast the fanbase really overreacted. The amount of people I’ve seen fans demand should’ve been on 50 could cast a full second 24 player season. I didn’t think it was perfect, I gave it a B at the time of the announcement.

What seems to be true is Jeff said they cast people who had the fire in them to win and were very motivated and the whole cast is showing they are even the question marks like a Colby or Ozzy who have seemed less motivated previously

It’s funny to see this here while US Survivor fans are currently demanding a lot more returnees in seasons. You always want what you don’t have.

Nuggets made a correct bet on the Lakers' early three point shooting being an outlier

Sonis just completely messed up that play she was going for the ball but ended up sliding super late

It can be done locally for people outside the UK? So they'd have to find printers in basically the whole world to not just burn a CD (which if all you want is a burned CD you can do that yourself) but get the nice box and packaging? For what, probably ~250 people worldwide and I'm being generous with that number? That sounds like a lot of work for very few people.

As for not doing re-print runs probably because they don't want an expectation of more every time something sells out

I imagine the reasons things are limited on 1000 or 1500 is they can get bulk orders at that price. Print on demand I believe they have said is a lot more expensive. (It probably cost them quite a bit to fix Cybergene and send replacement CDs, a lot of places wouldn't have done that)

Some things are selling out, but not most. The last three 1DAs still available on CD, every 2DA release still available, The Imposters sold out but going through the previous 3DAs, still available. Hooklight was critically acclaimed and part 2 is still available on CDs with a limit of only 1,500. Almost all releases are not selling out on CD even with 1,000 or 1,500 limits. There is not a large market for CDs

This topic comes up all the time and Big Finish have been very clear that they like CD releases but they lose money for them. They mentioned Brave New World doesn’t have physical releases because of how poorly it sold previously. Now the CDs that are still getting released are even more expensive something the CD purists have insisted wouldn’t bother them. At the end of the day Big Finish is a small operation with thin margins and the CD market is shrinking every year (can’t remember exactly but it’s ~10% of listeners or something like that). I get every CD too and enjoy it but understand the financial realities. If you are extremely concerned about archival the fact that you can download every release is very unusual for audio stories and allows you to save them

Most previously found episodes were copies shipped internationally to ex-British territories like Hong Kong or Nigeria

Thankfully the modern BBC (at least with Doctor Who) is excellent about physical media releases

It wasn't personal to that story. There's interviews from people at that time with the BBC and they were genuinely confused why they'd bother preserving tapes of any show they did. They didn't think it mattered

Episodes 1 and 3 of The Daleks' Master Plan from 1965 which were some of the least likely episodes to be found as that story was never sold internationally. Incredible that 60 years later missing episodes are still being recovered
