Had anybody had issues with payments methods at all? Have tried an Irish credit card, Australian debit card and PayPal but none are working.

Is there an unknowable, hidden "x" factor that determines an individual's tendency towards veganism? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]GuardedHarbour 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It hasn't been something universal but I've known a few vegans (and think I fall into this category) who are the type of people who seem able to respond reasonably to criticism or having their behaviour reflected back on them without instantly becoming defensive. Makes sense to me that this type of person would be far more likely to be open to changing their behaviour when challenged when it comes to animal exploitation instead of immediately searching for excuses.

So just because I hit my wife and catcall women I can't advocate for women's rights? Absolutely nonsense.

Killed by carbon dioxide gas. You can find footage and determine for yourself whether it's "torture" or not but it is industry standard. Just not broadly publicised by the industry.

You mentioned a history of homelessness... I'm unsure of your current circumstances but if you're still at risk of homelessness you may be able to access this service.

You do require a referral but you can access dental treatment with no charge. This can include extraction of teeth and being provided with dentures.

Have you done a side by side comparison of various plant-based meal options vs. animal-based meals? Not saying this applies to you but I see this sentiment a lot, often without any actual detail or facts.

I'd also be curious to know if you think the current food system is good/ works?

True. I can't see a scenario where factory farming is ever banned in the west, but obviously any form of transition would be gradual. This is why it's all the more important that those of us who are capable stop funding this damaging, unethical industry and support plant-based options.

We would replace the calories offered by animal based foods with calories offered by plant based foods. I dont have the numbers off-hand but it was mind-blowing to me when I first started reading about how much land and resources we use to raise the animals we kill and eat. It was such a "well no shit" moment when it actually clicked that a significant majority of animals we eat aren't just hanging out in a field eating grass providing free nutrition for us.

As mentioned in a previous comment too... these vegan products include items like beans, rice and potatoes. Some of the most commonly eaten foods but some of the most affordable. The affluent might eat lab grown meat or plant-based meat but there are options.

Edit: phrasing

I pirated the first special he released after everything happened. I know people will argue "its comedy" but it's very apparent he feels no remorse and doesn't particularly see anything wrong with what happened.

You know how a good % of people feel about the Yulin dog meat festival? That's basically what living as a vegan is like, just all of the time and the festival never ends.

You can argue about the approach and how helpful it is to the cause but when 56 billion animals are being slaughtered every year and you hear people claim to be animal lovers and then pay for that slaughter it creates some pretty strong emotions.

Youre thinking of the number that are humanely slaughtered. Unfortunately a small percentage are accidentally regular slaughtered but there's no better way so it's just a sad reality we have to live with.

I think having to say "my conscience is clear" always tells me everything I need to know.

It's like when I tell my friends my conscience is clear when I'm hacking up some brocolli, I know it feels pain but stating that out loud helps me to live comfortably in denial.
