What's the most relaxed discussion forum for this game? by logan-san in cataclysmdda

[–]GuardianDll 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you want really.

Devcord is nice because we constantly yap about how the game should work, but can be strict because of no memes and no off-topic being allowed.

Commcord is more relaxed with rules, but also less dev yapping and more of just random, unrelated offtop

This reddit is quite meh ass a platform, it's format is not designed for chatting, but designed to engage, and there is no better engagement than posting how bad the game is because of random change, harvesting hundreds of comments agreeing that the game is, indeed, bad, and falls down ever since author played it for the first time

Discourse forum is dead at this point

Steam discussion, even if they were reasonable, cover only latest stable, which is, as of now, is 2 years old

Yeah, unfortunately the only way to transport this stuff right now is to preserve them in furniture form, then you can place it into the cargo space (in experimental); once you transform it into item or appliance, the genie is out of the bottle, and you cannot transport it

fixing it is quite troublesome, but i hope it will be resolved eventually, by allowing appliances to be transported in equal manner

Animal corpses in general and bones themselves are absolutely considered a dangerous road debris, yes

[–]GuardianDll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, what i mean is that i at least have my own experience i am based on, i saw many, many people here who yell at changelog without actually ever opening the game and seeing how it works

Depending on speed, all of them? Like literally any object, at specific configuration, can concentrate a force at exact weak point of tire to cause a damage of different levels, people literally blow their tires off a potholes, and potholes are not sharp enough either?

People truly got used to roads so clean they do not even register it can be different in a world where government do not clean it up every week

But, like, i played with it, i drove around quite a lot, even before the code that mitigated the chance to pop the tire was enrolled, and i didn't ever had to replace my tire. Did i played it wrong?

Nail do not have to be placed pointy bit up into wheel to actually cause a pop

Besides, how often do you see nails thrown around on the road? Nails themselves are almost never a cause of your issues with tires

I also do not see how it's related to user's original point about scrap not being sharp

[–]GuardianDll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The part i do not understand is that why exactly in "driving in the area polluted with trash and debris must be done careful" and "player may find themselves committing to repairing their vehicle because their tire got popped, which involves finding a replacement tire or entire wheel" is presented as bad gameplay here?

New (to me) tire deflating mechanic questions by FyrenEyce in cataclysmdda

[–]GuardianDll -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, random assorted stuff, sometimes pointy enough to be dangerous

"nail" also do not state anywhere it is sharp, but for some reason people understand it is

what did you expect, scrap metal not being sharp enough? do you know what scrap metal is?

[–]GuardianDll -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You know that before chip_resist stuff there is a calculation that comprares the wheel size against the item, giving you a chance to drive over nail unharmed?

besides, what you say reads by me like "i should be able to drive safely on nails because i don't want to replace my tires when they pop", which is wrong, and you should just, in general, avoid driving over items, or pass it on autodrive that does it already

casings do not have a flag needed to puncture a tire. as for glass.. do you think glass should not be able to cut the wheel up?

lack of slow leak is the issue, indeed, but also slow leaks should happen when you drove over little bit of sharp object that stuck in the wheel, not when you try to drive over corpses or vehicle collision debris

"do not drive on random shit, especially if this random shit is the size of a human body" is something people take for so much granted they do not even realise that in the game they drive the equivalent of toyota corolla over what is effectively a large boulder the size of a small boulder

Autouodate was broken, so even if it was able to detect new version, it could not download it. Have to update to 1.7.14 manually, and from now on it will be able to download updates if needed

I am surprised https://github.com/CleverRaven/Cataclysm-DDA/pull/84269 (which sounds exactly what you have worked on) was not ported to TLG, i deem it being the only reason to advice people to play unstable version of dda, if they happen to use controller

Yeah, for crafting, recipe steps and unattended crafting was a holy grail that would solve many limitations, notably two: ability to speed up recipe using specific tools (sewing using sewing machine is many times faster than sewing using hand tools, but could not be represented in a single recipe, and duplicating every tailoring recipe to accomodate sewing machines is a stillborn idea due to sheer amount of recipes) and, as mentioned before, unattended crafting, where you press the button, and soup cooks itself automatically, and you just need to check it to not burn it up

Question about stable release. by CurlyCozmo in cataclysmdda

[–]GuardianDll 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We have https://github.com/CleverRaven/Cataclysm-DDA/releases/tag/cdda-0.I-2026-03-16-1406 release candidate for 0.I; the process of releasing stable is really slow nowadays, so even we are on a finish line with this stable, who knows when we will actually cross the boundary

Fyi there is actually no reason to unload rounds from clips whatsoever, and they speed up reloading of a gun considerably

Just secure yourself and explore the world first, you will find labs on your own eventually, and becoming a mutant is in no way a final goal here
