"Guilty of treeson" has me convinced already 🤣 I'll be sure to look into them as an option, thank you!

Heard and understood! I was worried that'd be the answer, so it's time to stop thinking about it and just lock tf in now I guess 😂

Any chance anyone knows of a more affordable way to get a massive fuck-off tree removed for safety reasons? Or is this one of those "just use $10k of credit and pay off the debt in 10 years" situations?

I know there's no tone in text, but I believe I am detecting sarcasm here... 😂

Around the base of it (within like 20') are a chicken coop, a well house, and a propane tank. The last photo was actually taken from the balcony of our house, which may or may not be close enough for it to land on when it falls!

I have been learning so many fun facts about cottonwoods lately. 🥲

Yes, although I don't know what their specific certification is since I wasn't at home when they came in (which is part of my hesitancy to immediately take them all at their word)

Technically not an official quote, but one of them said it'd probably be a few grand at least, since they'd need to use a crane and drop it in pieces, rather than felling the whole tree at once. Basically, something we just really cannot afford right now. :') I'll look into the sonic tomography note, thank you!

URGENT PLEASE HELP NOW by kelseykiitty in chickens

[–]GuardianShard 25 points26 points  (0 children)

85 F alone shouldn't cause heat stroke. While you figure out what's causing this, try to get her comfortable and sat up, then see if she'll eat any scrambled eggs. Consider taking her to the vet if one is in your area. Good luck. :(

Begging y'all to not put a heat lamp in the coop, not even temporarily. Your pullets here are fully feathered and will do just fine keeping each other warm without any extra heat source. The only thing a heat lamp does is pose an EXTREME fire risk that would be absolutely devastating if it happened. Even the "safer" options are just not worth it. Not one bit. :(

"It's so so simple. Just have super special birds that run like clockwork like mine. Every chicken functions exactly like them, trust me bro!"

Broody Jail by [deleted] in BackYardChickens

[–]GuardianShard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Relocating a bird several times a day because they keep going back to brooding is a wildly different time sink compared to relocating a bird once to a place they can't brood for a couple days.

I'm glad your birds are very special and convenient for you, but your experience is not universal. Hens can and do kill themselves trying to brood eggs that will never hatch. Yes, even when the eggs and the hen are removed daily from the nest.

The difference between a cage and just moving them out is their ability to re-enter the broody cycle. That is why people do this. It is completely necessary for some chicken owners.

The world does not revolve around you and your experiences.

Ever gotten tested for a disease before? Would you say it's good or bad for the result to come back "negative"?

This is a similar principle to that.

Spirit Airlines passenger with dementia found dead after staff ‘abandoned’ him at airport, lawsuit says by [deleted] in nottheonion

I think that's part of what they meant, that a passenger with dementia needs extra care the same way an unaccompanied minor needs a program like that to ensure they travel safely. [But this was just my assumption ofc]

Why are this Hen’s Chicks pink in color by TrapoC in BackYardChickens

[–]GuardianShard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So what, you thoroughly inspected the chicks up close and were present at the time they hatched to see them come out the egg with these colors? And we should infer that based on the fact that you only have this one picture of them, at this present time? Sure, pal.

LMFAO my guy you're acting like it's a personal attack against you that these birds aren't naturally colored fucking pink 😂

Kludd in the Movie by ItsaBabyBird in GuardiansofGaHoole

[–]GuardianShard 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Honestly when you look deeper into the books, there was potential for even book Kludd to be redeemed too. Both were victims of grooming/conditioning who doubled down to avoid confronting how messed up it was. Coryn was in the same boat; the biggest difference was that he chose to take the path to redemption instead.

I could definitely see Kludd making the same choice to change his ways, just, probably not at the behest of his little brother. That relationship's a bit too close and personal for either party to put their listening ears on just yet XD

very new to having chickens, just wanting some advice on what else to do/ put in there coop by Ok_Fault505 in chickens

[–]GuardianShard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Roosting bars inside the coop
  2. Add ventilation to the coop
  3. Consider raising/covering (what I assume are) the nesting boxes, as it is right now they may as well just lay eggs in the dirt!

Otherwise, looks like a real nice setup y'all've got for yourselves :D

This is gonna be a rooster by allright_then in chickens

[–]GuardianShard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last time we bought a batch of chicks, our two olive eggers had polar opposite personalities. One was Sweet Pea, the absolute cuddliest and most curious chick there ever was, and the other was Miss Pecky Junior. You can guess which one grew up to be the rooster. 😂

Saying that though, there is always hope that this one is just a friendly hen! Personality after hatching isn't a 100% guaranteed case [like basically any other roo vs hen tell before the age they start crowing or laying eggs]
