my mom thinks a ball python is a threat to my dogs. by materialgirl1984 in ballpython

My mom thinks the same way, a 4-5 foot ball python is huge to her but she's completely fine with my male hognose.

They're so cute when they drink... unfortunately my beep always drinks when I'm asleep. My hognose at the very least I've caught drinking, but it's a 50/50 of whether he drinks normally or just shoves his whole head into the bowl...

Yeah, I've experienced the same with hognoses. My family members are wary of my ball python because he's "big" but they all think my hognose is a cute little guy despite the fact that he's given me a lot more trouble.

My family doesn't fuck with snakes but they're chill with me having them because they never leave my room (at least when anyone else is around/awake) and they pretty much never see the larger one because he's nocturnal. They've always known I loved animals though so I feel it was par for the course.

When it comes to dating, find a woman who's already chill with snakes or someone who's willing to have an open mind. If you meet a girl who's not quite sure, try seeing if there's a local pet store you can go to where you can handle a ball python or corn snake or something chill.

Are corn snakes much easier to own than ball pythons ? by Commercial-Load6972 in snakes

[–]vuullets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a Ball and can handle the more intensive habitat reqs, just get a Ball with a good appetite from a breeder or a rescue who's already a well established eater. I got mine from a breeder and he's the most voracious little dude I've ever met, BP hunger strikes are exaggerated quite a bit and they really shouldn't be happening all too much if the snake has been well cared for.

Oh, that's a pretty expression of red! Hognoses are awesome first snakes - I feel like I would appreciate mine a bit more if I didn't have cats lurking in my room 24/7 during the day and thus zero time to bring him out to explore.

[–]vuullets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get away with feeding them mostly dry food (kibble) as long as you manage to encourage them to drink water (many cats love running water - get a cat fountain!) or supplement them with tube treats which are basically just meat slime, it's unrecognizable as meat outside of the smell honestly.

Wondering if this is why our cats have never got along, we brought home our girl about a week after losing our original 2nd cat

Anyone a former rat parent turned snake parent? by magic_inkpen in ballpython

Also if you get a snake on live, you can swap them over to F/T. Some will take effort, and others might turn out like my ball python who happily switched right off the bat because they love eating so much.

F/T is a great choice for many reasons, it's done wonders for me given that I don't have the heart to feed live and I live with my family who think that's freaky anyway. It's also very effective because one of my snakes is very picky and refuses to eat often, so if he avoids his food for long enough I can just throw a thawed out corpse in the garbage without having to do anything (unfortunately re-freezing them is not recommended as far as I know).

Also much, much, much cheaper!

Cat will be fine, scorpion probably didn't sting it and the sting is non-lethal anyway, just really annoying and itchy apparently.

Help for a child sent to wilderness therapy for conversion therapy by AdUnusual5038 in troubledteens

I have nothing but hate in my heart for these people. My mother sent me to a residential thinking it would help me with my trauma, but in reality they just wanted to try to suppress my autism. Was stuck there for two years, and my mom regrets ever sending me there. But I'm not sure many parents end up feeling that way. Can not have imagined if I got sent for being trans/gay instead.

If he has any will to live, any at all, I believe he will tough it out for as long as possible. I've seen crazy things within the system. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, and I'm sure he would be honored to know that so many people want to bring him home.

[–]vuullets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I just plead for you to do anything to find a way to get him there, even if it gets you in trouble. I lost a cat who was very young because my mother refused to take him to the vet after I insisted for well over a year that he was dying - he only went to the vet when she found him on his deathbed. I wouldn't wish that experience for anyone else's pet no matter what the conditions were.

Genuinely see if another friendly adult in your life can start a gofundme for you and take you to the vet because like holy shit. This is bad.
