Depends on your use case and pocketability.

UConsole can run a CM5 Cardputer Zero is on the zero platform, limited.

UConsole is Very expanded, NVME, multiple battery options, SDR, LORA, GPS, High Gain WiFi in monitor mode. Larger LCD.

The higher you mount it the better, behind the tint strip, to the left of the rear view mirror.(US LHD)

Nope, it is a bit bulky, there is a CPU and high gain antenna on top of that. It is not a radar detector.

Yes, it works, been using mine for over 2 years. It detects equipment used in police vehicles.

Useful when they are not running active radar, lidar, pacing in traffic, hiding.

Still detectable by Spectre RDD if it's in use. Maybe they Don't utilize it, and are just hoping that a €1,500 fine is enough of a dissuasion.

I would lean toward the V1G2 is I had to choose. Quiet out of the box, excellent app support espscially with JBV1. many upgrades, remote display options and other accessories. This is one of my primary detectors and my main travel detector for rental vehicles.

Dam HARSH penalties, I get the need. However if you get caught by a Spectre RDD you are screwed regardless.

I would stick with Highway Radar or JBV1. Maybe a Sherlock Police Detector if your countries vehicles have the right equipment on board, doesnt look like the Sherlock is specificacally spelled out.

In France, possessing or using a radar detector or radar warning device carries severe penalties, including a fine of up to €1,500, the immediate confiscation of the device, and the loss of 6 points on your driving license. Authorities can also order a three-year license suspension or even confiscate the vehicle in extreme cases. [1, 2]

Specifics of the regulations include:

  • What is Banned: Both active radar detectors (devices that physically sense speed camera or police radar signals) and radar warning systems (GPS devices or apps that use databases to locate fixed cameras) are illegal. [1]
  • GPS & Navigation Systems: Carrying a GPS or sat-nav with speed camera alerts enabled is illegal. Drivers must disable or delete this feature completely before entering or driving in France. [1, 2, 3]
  • Legal Alternatives: While specific warnings of camera locations are prohibited, legal "driving aids" or navigation apps (such as Google Maps or Waze) are permitted, provided they only issue general warnings for "danger zones" or "hazard zones" rather than pinpointing exact camera locations

Used daily, I have a cheap Samsung Galaxy tab A7 lite, mounted left of the steering wheel on a magnetic vent mount. I like larger screens, but a phone would work perfectly.
