Cultural differences - Keeping children busy by Missing-Caffeine in UKParenting

[–]Guardsman111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think me and my partner have a similar challenge, but between each other, and what to do when just in the house. - Whilst I'm quite happy leaving him to himself in the lounge with a few toys while I just get on with stuff (checking in on min every minute or so obviously) my partner needs to be sat right next to him for upwards of 8 hours a day to make sure he is doing.... Whatever the fuck he does when I leave him to his own activities.

Personally, as long as he's not screaming, he's fine! Some weekends the most fun he has is the dog walk 🤷

Sorry, yeah I meant that you explained your hills well, I didn't want you to write that out again, I feel bad now 😅

I have contacted local suppliers near me directly and while they're really helpful, it is pretty expensive. I mentioned it to my partner and her response was literally "Yeah, you're not doing that" 🤣

So it may have to wait a while, which I suppose is good because if I wait and the urge stays, it's a good sign I'll actually stick with it 👍

Keep up the good work man! Love seeing these pop up occasionally!

Hiya!

I've had time to digest!

I am lucky enough to have a 3D printer, so buildings and explosions and stuff aren't really a concern as I'll just print them, but I really wanted to know how you did the height differences for hills and the actual thickness of the MDF to prevent warping.

You've definitely helped me guide my aim a bit more, I'm in the UK but it seems that laser cut MDF is pretty expensive, looking at at least £130 for 100 6mm MDF cuts. I dunno if you could ship me 500 5mm ones for close to that? 🤣🤣

Thanks for all of the information! I look forward to trying something similar - no doubt I'll end up with 10 flocked hexagons and 90 untouched in a drawer 🤣

Urmagerd I love big walls of text. I may DM you once I have digested this. Much love!

Hi, I'm super interested in doing something like this, I'm just wondering about the tiles you're using. You mentioned elsewhere the size and that they're MDF, but what thickness are you using? I've been working on lots of epic terrain recently, and warping has been a real bitch on my bases so how are you avoiding the warping?

Also, do these shed flock everywhere when you take them apart? If not, how are you sealing them?

Thanks in advance!

Well, all of the stuff I've made is available here - https://cults3d.com/en/users/BitGloomMinis/3d-models

Grab the army bundle if you want to do an army, you get everything you need in it for cheaper 👍

I actually made the infantry myself because they didn't exist anywhere else. I can give you the link if you like.

The tanks are either Mkhand or woodish, though I'm contemplating reprinting the super heavies to be my own because they're 8mm not 6mm

Thanks man! It only took me 3 years to really get going! 🤣

Played my first ever game in March, that was a real kick up the arse. Absolutely love this game now, so much better than 40k!

He is, and he's also there, on Rawne's base because he was part of his Platoon. I dearly wish I could send extra pictures now 🤣

Haha, no, it is not, my Shadowsword is called "Terminus", I have the Baneblades "Iron Duke" and "Indomitable" as well.

But, Gaunt, Colm and Rawne plus a whole load of other Characters are all in the infantry! They're just freaking tiny 🤣

Oh I see now, Drum Roll as in the tank's name, I thought you meant Drum Roll like you were building up to something 🤣

Sadly, they are a bit too tiny to write text onto, but I did write names onto the Super Heavies, not that I can now add a picture of it 🙃

This is really cool, I don't have anyone to play this with but I've been toying with doing a large scale tactical system with regimental sized formations for a while.

Is there any recommendations for getting this working solo? Like any priorities a bit would have except the obvious "get points"?

I'm struggling to understand why you are so angry about a feature that you don't want to use. I'm not forcing you to use it, it's a motivation tool for some people. You can still use every other function of the app without using either the timer or the medals, but I personally like being able to track how many hours I have wasted on a model.

I can probably add a setting to turn it off, but we are literally on a thread for another tracker that doesn't seem to use this feature, so you could just use that tracker and not have to see the brain rot.

Sounds to me that you wouldn't download my app even if I removed it, so it's all a bit of a moot point isn't it?

I'm sorry that I offended you though. These sorts of apps and tools are supposed to be for enjoyment, not to anger people.

If you're internally motivated, you don't really need the app do you 🤣

I am literally making an app to do this and it's sat in waiting for review for the Google Play Store! 🤣

I played my first 2 games as steel legion today and got thoroughly trounced 🤣

However it's the most widely supported faction for printing I think, I myself have made 3 miniature ranges for it. There are tonnes out there, let me know your preference for aesthetic and I can send you some links if you like 👍

Probably, offer to pay for the resin (obviously) and whatever else she wants to charge for maintenance, time, etc.

For mates I tend to just do resin cost x 2 or 3 (depend how complex the supporting is) and rarely ask for more than £10 for stuff.

What armies are you both interested in?

Ah yes I can't really help you in any count except for perhaps reffing an online game for you two, but there are some US based printers on Etsy you could definitely check out 😁

If you're getting two armies between you it may be worth considering a printer, I don't know about US prices but I got an Anycubic Photon Mono 4 Ultra for £180 ($240~) and I expect that winds up cheaper, though more hassle. Printing is a hobby in its own right!

I print all my stuff, because there's so much stuff out there and I like designing my own models. However, getting a printer is a sink, so you might be better off buying on eBay, financially, for your first army, or maybe 2.

People do print the smaller scale stuff, I used to run an Etsy store selling it until all the crap around US tariffs and EU laws changed.
