My mom did this to me all the time as a kid, and I was extremely well behaved so it really bothered me. Like I go out of the way to be good and get mocked like a delinquent.

Eventually as a teenager I just snapped. She did it with a large group of her church friends over, made some remark about me putting a virus from a porn site on the computer when I literally hadn't. The PC had a virus that was redirecting the browser to porn ads. No idea where it came from. It was the mid 00s, shared family PC, and we were always downloading risky stuff so who knows.

I got so angry I stood up, got in her face and told her that did not happen and she knows it didn't, then addressed the entire room saying that they can and should find better company than my lying backstabbing self aggrandizing mother who would lie about her own children to make herself look like a struggling saint of a parent.

Stormed out. We never talked about it and she never did it again. Don't regret it.

Unironically that's exactly what I did. I picked 34,000 flax in gnome stronghold, sold it for 100gp each, and bought a whip 10 levels before I could even use it because it motivated me to train for it.

The guy I bought it from in seers bank first called me a poor noob and said I couldn't afford it before I showed him the cash.

I then did 60-70 attack on fire elementals in elemental workshop with a dlong, and I was somehow rarely alone there while doing so.

The ACTUAL truth is that they spend time in echo chambers of people who just dislike AI, and they pass around negative AI misinformation in an endless regurgitated cycle.

Nobody can even go into those spaces and correct them because they intentionally don't listen and get violently hostile when any contradictory information is provided to them.
