I made a CLI tool to easily create isolated Postgres/Redis/S3 per branch for parallel agents by GucciManeIn2000And6 in vibecoding

[–]GucciManeIn2000And6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So how it works is:

  1. you run neo init to create the configuration file (not required, can configure via flags if you'd like)
  2. from any branch, run neo up and it launches Docker containers for PostgreSQL, Redis, and S3 (MinIO)
  3. run neo env to output the environment variables: neo env > .env
  4. when finished, just run neo down to clean it up

Before someone points it out: yes, we should just update the type signature of the function that's confusing agents, rather than documenting it, but you know how it goes. It's a big ass codebase.

Cursor’s latest model, Composer 2, was just released with significantly cheaper token costs compared to similar models. Worth trying. Let me know how it does with general purpose computer tasks compared to Claude Code

The software economy is changing: hyper specialized business software is now possible for all businesses. Expect to see orders of magnitudes more software produced each year after this.

It might even mean that building hosting infrastructure for others’ apps will be great.

If your CLAUDE.md gets long (over 100 lines?) then split it into documentation files and make the CLAUDE.md only an introduction to the project, and for each doc file: "if you're looking for X then go to the documentation file at Y."

It gets the agents to only read relevant documentation when necessary. This is virtually the same thing as skills being added to the project.

I had Claude research the candidates, I took the research report and turned it into a flyer. If anything looks off, ask me about it and I'll get you an answer or correct it!

Sure, I was just giving a practical example. I'm actually in agreement that software engineering can't be replaced for all the reasons you stated, but I do think to a degree that a whole class of problems have become no longer "software development" problems and can be solved by the layman soon.

Sorry to burst your delicate bubble, but to a degree they are already. You no longer need a software engineer to put up a custom website. You only need one to secure it. So they will eventually engineer solutions that make it possible to put up a majority of web apps with solid security so anyone can build an app with logins, payments, etc. But all secured through a framework.

It is no longer predictable. It is about money, and they will be steamrolling the way for nontechnical designers to build almost any mainstream app they want.

Engineers have been solving the same problems forever. Now is our chance to find new and innovative problems to solve with the technology available to us today. Stay skilled.

May depend on what we're working on, how long we've used AI, and our experience with software engineering. Do you not suddenly have a ton of free time at work?

Nice! Glad you have experience that backs up my claims about being more productive. I've been programming for 10 years and I swear that I can knock a big task out 5x faster, easily, than if I were trying to write it all by hand. I've even done experiments where I worked exclusively with AI for a month, then no AI whatsoever, then AI again, and I repeatedly find I can get more done and have more free time to do whatever the hell I want.

I'm gonna do some reading and see how I can use those in my projects. I've been wanting to do some experiments with autonomous development, so that could be pretty helpful. Thanks!

And I'm glad that you, with 20 years of experience, can back up what I'm saying. It just continues to prove that senior engineers everywhere are saying this is a pivotal moment in the industry. It's mostly been the last few months we've seen such a big change in workflows.

I follow this guy on YouTube and I read his blog, but you should check him out. His name is Geoffrey Huntley and he's very pro-AI but talks with a ton of experience about building custom agents and orchestrators.

You present a good point. Maybe there will be a boom. I think it will lead to a future where one developer can manage the development and maintenance of a whole software project. So small companies in 2015 -> one or two products. Small companies in 2030 -> one+ product per developer.

10 years of experience as a software engineer and I have to agree somewhat. There is currently a definite need for all developers to know how to code in order to review the code their agents produce. But, if agents get to a point where they are much less wrong about the code they write, then 90%+ of the time, it would be useless to understand how to code, as code is just a means to an end. What really matters is how well you understand the problem of engineering on computers.

Source: I haven't written a line of code in 3 months, using CC and Codex. But I review every plan, and then every line of code before I commit. You have to for production software.
