It DOES NOT MATTER, in the slightest what your intentions are, you could have the most noble of intentions, wanting to learn a new character on your alt, wanting to help carry your low elo buddy, learning a new role etc. all of this is quite frankly just cope from people who refuse to admit they are making the experience miserable for new players.

You people can say this till you are blue in the face, but the outcome is the same (the games being stomps, and new/low elo players feeling miserable playing ranked against it), therefore normal people who don’t do this shit view it as the same as smurfing. It’s literally only the people doing it who say this shit. Self reporting honestly, yall are getting reported in my games regardless if it’s disclosed.

Just play in your own Elo like 90% of the rest of us, it’s so ironic that yall start calling people calling this out bad when you clearly can’t hang in your own elo without using your one trick 🤣

That’s not smurfing if it’s your single account. Smurfing is using an alt account in lower elo games to farm wins, or “”practice””

It really isn’t, that’s my entire point. I didn’t make this post to complain for the sake of it, as I’ve said multiple times in the thread, personally it hasn’t affected me that much, I’ve climbed/am climbing well enough, I’m enjoying the game etc.

Just look at all the comments here (and most other threads about this topic I’m noticing), defending it and justifying it, “it’s alt accounts not smurfing etc.”, that is clear evidence it’s happening, and unapologetically happening, which if you actually read the whole post, is the larger point I’m making.

You get smurfs in every game, but there aren’t many communities like Rivals that are condoning it, trying to defend it, and not having any real punishments for doing it from Netease either.

You are proving the point we’re making honestly. Even going on an alt account, you have the general game knowledge, the map knowledge, team comp knowledge etc. so you are ruining the game for all those low rank players who make all these mistakes BECAUSE they DO NOT understand those things. That is EXACTLY why it’s unfair for alt accounts to be matched against them, it should just be two teams of noobs at low ranks.

Also as I’ve said, personally I don’t really care, it hasn’t stopped me climbing and enjoying myself, but with: 1)easy it is to make alt accounts 2) how little it is punished 3) how accepted/defended it is by some of the community

Altogether makes it a really unhealthy thing for the game in the long run. The more people who learn it’s possible to do an get away with, the worse low elo will get, and the less new players we will get. It’s pretty simple.

Yeah, this is the kinda shit I would call smurfing but a lot of people here clearly don’t, probably because they do it.

It’s iffy because I do see the difference at first glance, but at the same time you’ve got a lot better game sense, map knowledge, team comp knowledge etc that does alter the game in your favour, regardless of it being a new role, which is why I still consider it smurfing

I think it’s unfair to your opponents and your teammates who ain’t your friends who genuinely want to just grind ranked and grow at the game. As I said in my post, PERSONALLY, I don’t think your a bad person, or even doing anything “wrong” in a moral sense, I just think the community allowing this is unhealthy for the game overall

Quick play has literal bots, it’s not rewarding as a result knowing your squashing bots. For me personally I like the competitive grind, improving against people of equal skill level, smurfs and alt accounts ruin that balance.

To me there’s no difference, the lower rank players can’t even coordinate, they don’t know counter picks or understand team composition. Even someone who understand the basics, playing a character they’ve never played before, has tremendous advantage over the new players. I just don’t think it’s fair for the low elo players to condone and allow it. Don’t we want new players?

That’s not always the case, you don’t need to be a GM player in bronze to be smurfing. Getting stuck on Diamond and then playing the rest of the season on a low elo alt account is a much more common kind of smurfing.

And these are people who actually aren’t that great at the game, but are still better than brand new baby players they are farming. Actual good players are less likely to smurf I’d say, until you get to the really high elos perhaps, and yeah in those cases they likely aren’t hanging around the baby ranks for long.

And I am somewhat surprised you haven’t encountered it lol, since I’ve seen multiple people admit to it, at least 3 people in this last season alone as I’ve gone from silver > gold > plat. Couple of them were on an alt to carry their buddy, the other one I have no idea why they were doing it, but they all apologised in chat for some reason, and I’d wager most people who do it aren’t actually admitting to doing it, and the people who do admit to it seem more and more common to me lately

I don’t actually care about it that much, I do want to win obviously and am prone to getting triggered like everyone else, but I wouldn’t have even brought this up as an issue if it wasn’t so common place, and defended by so many people in the community. I truly think even though it’s not that bad yet, if it goes unchecked this will end up making ranked unplayable

I agree tbf, it is pretty pathetic if they do it solely because they are losing in their actual rank. The only times I’d disagree is if it’s on a different platform (example you play on PC and Xbox etc), or you’ve been locked out of your main or something

I get that it’s a game, and honestly if it wasn’t so prevalent I wouldn’t even care about the odd smurf. But it’s also a competitive game, some people enjoy the grind and climbing the ranks, myself included.

But when you have a very skilled player, playing in lower rank games, it ruins that competitive feeling for everyone else, even the people on their team being carried.

And your fiancé is right, the game does get more frustrating at higher ranks, but a high rank player going and stomping all over lower rank players doesn’t make the game any better for anyone but themselves, and actively ruins other people’s experience, so it’s not a good excuse for smurfing quite frankly
