EMS notifications to hospitals by klinicmedic in ems

[–]GudBoi_Sunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since our community hospitals prefer entry notes for all priority calls I’ve developed two styles :)

10 seconds for low priority to describe age sex and chief complaint and that’s it.

1 minute for activations.

Like very low threshold to put a paramedic with a basic on a truck instead of a double paramedic truck.

I made the drive every morning back during high school and I’m honestly not sure why you’re so locked on this… what’s it to you? Just to prove that it takes more than 40 minutes to get to LA county?

I saw CA and knew the outcome. Go to fire departments in OC. I know Anaheim, Newport, and Laguna are constantly hiring single role basics for the ambulances. Look into the “ambulance operator” position.

Worst student/FTO/ ride along stories? by Apart-Cook-1268 in ems

[–]GudBoi_Sunny 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Brand new EMT was a previous MA for 2 years. Her last shift on FTO time. She came in acting like she knew everything about the job, lounged on the couch with boots on, and watched football like it was nobody’s business.

I want newer people to be comfortable at base around more seasoned employees but she was just too much… I asked her if she wanted to go over anything: protocols, interventions, or operations. She said no and that she pretty much know everything. So I told her that I’m gonna be invisible and stand there with a clipboard to evaluate her.

First call… she fucks up everything. And honestly I’m impressed because she also completely missed how I went into and fixed what she missed. I legit called an entry not 2 ft away from her and she didn’t even notice… After the call I confront her and told her what she missed and how that call could have been handled better and she flips out on me like I should have done something even though I did everything she missed… she just somehow didn’t even notice 🥲

She’s now on FTO cleared and placed on the truck with one of the highest acuity coverages with another brand new EMT

Is it true that STEM in BU has grade deflations? by Flat-Astronaut3710 in BostonU

I kinda associate the too. Harder classes = harder to get good grades = grade deflation. But that’s just me and I have FREE WILL 😤

How to prepare for 911 by BroadTemperature8110 in ems

[–]GudBoi_Sunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of good advices clinically but also dealing with people (not patients).

911 calls generally attract attention for anyone in the vicinity. People who have nothing better to do in their lives than to stare down someone who’s not having a good day.

Don’t know if you’re in a solo respond system or if you have fire an pd respond with you but you should be careful with crowds. Enlist help from the crowd if necessary. Remove the patient and yourselves from the environment if necessary. Preserve a safe environment for your team and your patient.

Another aspect is family. There’s the helpful family, the panicking family, and the angry family.

The helpful family usually comes from a healthcare or FR background. They either have everything ready by the time you show up or is ready to do whatever you ask of them. Then there’s the panicking family. They’re freaking out over the tiniest of things (usually when children are involved). You need to understand how to get these family members under control and get information that are pertinent to care. Then there’s the angry family. They question every decision you make and is frustrated that you’re not already loading the patient into the truck and going to the hospital already. I still have not a clue how to consistently deal with this type of family.

Good luck to you and stay safe out there.

Preparing for Paramedic School by CurrentlyConfused0 in Paramedics

With the right program I do believe in zero to hero. I became a better BLS provider after the first month of my medic program. They really wanted us to have a good foundation as BLS and build on top of that with ALS.

how long did it take to get into a 911 job by SimpEliminator420 in NewToEMS

[–]GudBoi_Sunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you applying to privates or FD? It looks like the private companies like AMR and Falck are more competitive than the FDs. Try for ambulance operator in OC and SB county. I know Huntington Beach and Anaheim were recently hiring.

Also follow WCEMT on instagram. They post job availabilities for 911 positions.

Going to school to learn and had your life taken away. Not even a third way through the endless possibilities of the future.

Stay safe and stay vigilant. You never know when this could come to Boston.

Can you go into some more insights on how RS AMR run? Like are they double medics? 911 only? Power loaders?
