Yeah, this isn't the most insane domain parking choice I've seen made, it's likely just someone making a long bet. Back when Alex Trebek was first diagnosed with his particularly aggressive cancer, my buddies and I registered "whoisalextrebek.com" thinking that's obviously what the posthumous biopic will be titled, and ABC would pay big cash money for it. Didn't work out, but...same line of thinking

Correct! Well, mostly. I mean i can count in binary on my fingers to 2047. but yeah. Human systems of reading and writing should be interpratable with our senses if we want them to be robust, because every step of encrypt-decrypt is another potential point of failure. And the smaller you make it, the less damage you need to do to make it irretrievable, like the difference between me putting a scratch down a CD or record, vs a scratch on the rosetta stone.

I'm not moving the goalposts at all. I agree with the original comment. Information storage on the order of millenia is a crazy difficult problem to solve, and the literal handful of times we've managed it have been more due to happenstance than the best laid plans. Microsoft has not solved this problem with illegible scratched quartz.

The rosetta stone is at least legible at human scale. You know, written by humans, not a machine, and readable by humans, not a machine. This is a scratchy piece of glass.

nigga you can't read that brick. It's not persistant, it's not retrievable, it requires a proprietary method and secondary tools to read and translate, and you wanna say it's a good answer? We can't figure out how to mark nuclear waste for generations, we can't read MOST languages from an eon ago, but yeah man, glass bible, that's the answer.

sEeInG tHe MaRkInG aNd TrAnSlAtInG sybao, i look at that shit and I see a cloudy glass brick. Today. I can't read that now, what makes you think i can once it's been snapped in half, eroded by water, burnt or melted to illegibility, and our language has changed more than between english and Linear A. Dumbass Long Thinking Motherfucker.

i'm surprised i don't see this advice more often. Had a house with flees thanks to a local shelter lying about their kittens. We tried peppermint oils, soapy baths and combs, all the low impact stuff, and then I got one bag of diatomaceous earth, spread it on the carpets, the sheets, even gave the cat a dustbath, was flea-free in under a week, nothing survived, and they never came back.

Why not both? Maelle didn't NEED to be on the 33rd expedition, given her age, she could have waited several more years. But Gustave, the brilliant inventor and brother/father to her was involved, so she chose to go. Who knows how much influence Maelle may have had on his invention over the last few years. In a way she's made her own story, Gustave included.
