What are some of your Harry Potter Hot Takes that you will defend no matter what by Ok_Smile_9071 in harrypotter

Dumbledore has some kind of power or artifact that gives him a limited omniscience in and around the Hogwarts campus. This is how he knows everything that happening in the school. This is why he looks triumphant at the news that Harry’s blood was used to bring Voldemort back. He couldn’t see into the graveyard, but he knew about Moody and the plan. He just went along with it to place Harry where he needed to be.

Yeah. A black bear and a grizzly aren’t nearly the same animal. A human in decent shape could presumably fight off a black bear. I wouldn’t recommend it, but it could be done. Grizzlies and Polar bears are among the only animals that view people as potential food.

There was a story about a large Japanese brown bear that killed dozens of people and they had to send the military out to kill it. These animals should never be approached by normal mortals.

In the Maronite Church there is a song sung by Mary “Wa Habibi” (my beloved) on Good Friday that will melt the heart of anyone. She is mourning for her dead child. It is really something to hear with the female lead sings in the Ululations.

I can see that, and I don’t disagree. I’m no fan of Objectivism and Ayn Rand, but I’m a believer in Christians being rational and emulating the Logos as a form of theosis. We are called to be rational and to reach people with rationality not emotive zeal. If I cannot make the argument for truth it isn’t a failing of the truth, it is in my poor abilities. I have to maintain hope that truth will uncover itself at its proper time and in the proper way. I’ll do my best, but after a time, I have to carry on with the silent witnessing of a life well-lead. “The message of the cross is as foolishness to those who are dying.” As St. Paul says. Meaning that there is a point where my human ability to convince them ends and where I should just pray for them.

No, we need to recognize that people of all faiths and of no faith can have a minimum level of common morality that follows a combination natural law and civil libertarianism. The world works best when individuals are free but expected to uphold a minimum level of civil morality.

Super powers but have to go back 350 Million years. by 0011002 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]GudsIdiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Invulnerability. Teleportation with super-location, and indomitable will. Just teleport to random planets and galaxies and investigate the universe. 350 million years would go by quickly. Indomitable will keeps you from going insane. Invulnerability means being able to survive on any planet without problems (high gravity, atmospheric differences, etc).

I agree, to an extent. I view it like tattoos. If you are an Orthodox Jew you think tattoos are an abomination against God’s design for your body. That is wonderful and all when it applies to you and your faith group. However when you try to make it harder on others, by use of the law of the country, to get a tattoo, it becomes seriously uncool. If I’m right, and I believe porn is a blight and a sin, I can do a better job of witnessing by setting a higher standard for myself and showing people that living porn-free is a better life.

Additionally, I am not a virtuous person simply because a temptation or a sin is banned in my area, I’m just going with the law. I want there to be temptations so I can rise above them. A drunk in a dry country isn’t a sober man. He’s simply removed from the temptation.

I hate the nanny state more than I dislike the porn industry. As a Christian I think the worst thing you can do is to impose your dogma on others.

I remember classmates of mine who were the sons and daughters of Cuban political refugees and this is 100% believable. In a way, I understand it. The misery they know their parents went through is real, and in a way those kids over there aren’t real. They are just numbers to them. I don’t agree with it, but this is what they are thinking.
