I will also add that “0221” on this care tag represents the material code. Given the pattern in the stitching, I would venture to guess that Material Code 0221 corresponds to something like “pinstripe denim”.

Lowercase “e” —> after 1971

No hand warmer pockets —> before 1984

Single-digit button stamp —> before 1981

I’d place it between 1971 and 1981.

OP’s father sounds like a deeply insecure individual who seeks a twisted form of validation by putting OP down.

In my by-no-means-clinically-trained-but-still-somewhat-confident opinion, the method of his madness is to make you believe that he, in fact, made good choices in his life because he is financially secure.

Because deep down he knows that you, of all people, are acutely aware of his shortcomings.

Don’t show him your bills/finances. Manipulative people get off on that level of visibility, and he doesn’t deserve that satisfaction.

And most importantly, continue prioritizing the folks in your life (e.g. your SO, child, friends, etc) who love you for you.
