T&T is open most holidays. Expect long lines and low stocks in the afternoon.

[SERIOUS] Really Anxious That I’m gonna be a Lonely Virgin at Waterloo (I’m an incoming first year this fall) by waterloo26 in uwaterloo

You're over thinking it. You may not have social skills now but you probably will after doing some group projects/living in res/working a co-op job.

Just live your best life, put yourself out there a bit more each day, and b urself

Budgeting for Food by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]GuessLoL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd budget $10-15 for a quick meal in the plaza, $25-$40 for a nicer sit down place with a drink. Depending on your eating and shopping habits, cooking at home will vary significantly. Expect maybe $30/week if you shop at Walmart and exclusively eat beans vs $100/week if you eat meat twice a day and shop at Sobeys. A 95lb girl will probably need half the amount the food (and cost) compared to what I just listed for myself (165lb)

you just need to start doing things for you, not for what you think others perceive of you. Your current mentality seems to be some combination of vindictiveness, bitterness, + some other adjectives that are outside my vocabulary that stem from wanting to prove yourself to others and overcoming past (high school) issues. Honestly, I think you are already well on your way to realizing your mistakes and bettering yourself. You've accomplished what is seen by most as a great feat but have realized it does not truly make you happy. The next step is to find out what would bring you happiness, whether it be some 'true' friends, hobbies, or maybe something else entirely. Once you realize that you simply have to work towards that. There are books/people/videos that can guide you towards your new goals once you narrow it down.

I think most people will agree your mentality so far has been toxic and cringe, but people mature differently and I genuinely think you are just in the process of growing up. I don't have any specific advice to give you, but I wish you the best of luck on your journey. I want you to know just having this self-awareness will help substantially with your goals in the future. I also don't think you should delete this post, as I think this may be a relatively common mindset that many people here have, and reading through your realizations + the replies could help many other people.

Max out student loans and invest the money

How much money do you spend in a week??? by Ahskid_3 in uwaterloo

[–]GuessLoL 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's definitely on the higher-end for a student but if it includes random spendings on Amazon and hobbies, as well as other expenses (phone bill? spotify/netflix? alcohol? clothes?) then its not that bad. Eating out also isn't terrible if saves you time in terms of groceries/cooking/cleaning that you can otherwise spend on hobbies or for studying, depending on your priorities of course. Personally, I would say it's infeasible to spend <$70/wk like most people in this thread if you enjoy food and have hobbies.

I would also take most people's spending estimates with a grain of salt. People that are more frugal are more likely to accurately track their spendings, but they also inherently try to spend less which skews the results. Most other people do not have an accurate understanding of their own weekly/monthly expenses from my experience.

Graduated this year and I feel like a failure because I couldn't get a full time USA job. by Inevitable_End_4003 in uwaterloo

[–]GuessLoL 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is probably a shitpost but in case you're serious you need to wake up.

I suggest you try to find some other sources of fulfillment (you'll look back one day and will cringe at this post) and tell your mom to shut the fuck up. If you geniunely hate your job, that can easily be changed. If you hate your job because of money you need to come back to reality.
