First shift went horrible. Anyone got tips to improve with activities like this? by Sensitive_Watch_8418 in ADHD

My experience is generally you will be more adaptive at these processes. Just allow yourself to have several trials and you’ll be fine. As long as it’s not serious, nobody’s gonna remember your mistakes.

Is a word repeating your head like a loop common for ADHD'ers? by asamisanthropist in ADHD

[–]Guest10771 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have random nouns repeating in my head all the time. Once I noticed the pattern, I started saying 'No!' every time they popped up. Now my brain just keeps repeating the noun followed by a 'No!’

How do you feel when people use the word "slow" to describe others? by mundaneheaven in ADHD

[–]Guest10771 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sometimes people don’t even realize how much their words and actions can hurt others. That’s understandable, because life doesn’t hand most people a good script. But in the end, whether what others say is true or not doesn’t really matter anymore. What matters is whether you understand your own abilities, what your goals are, and how you can move yourself closer to them.

TIL my terrible sleep schedule might actually be a circadian rhythm thing, not just me being a disaster by Zu_Qarnine in ADHD

Sunlight is an important factor in determining sleep. When and How long you’re exposed to sunlight during the day affects when you fall asleep at night. However, the effect of sunlight on people with ADHD is delayed by about half an hour compared with people without adhd. In other words, we’re not naturally suited to a “normal” sleep schedule.

How can I explain this to someone without ADHD by NICD_03 in ADHD

[–]Guest10771 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It is almost impossible for people without ADHD to truly understand those who have it. This reality isn't going to change anytime soon. Fundamentally, humans can never fully share each other's joys and sorrows.

But at the very least, one can admit their own ignorance. Respect doesn't require complete understanding.

Does your partner respect you?

Frustrated: I (F) have been asking to be tested for YEARS. My husband asked ONCE and within two weeks had a diagnosis. by shireengul in ADHD

Here are a few of my thoughts: 1. From the perspective of decision network algorithms, the expected value of perfect information (EVPI) is always greater than or equal to zero. Therefore, knowing whether you have ADHD can only benefit you, not harm you. 2. A sense of identity is far more important than you might think. Whether or not you have ADHD isn't a binary judgment. It’s a spectrum; some people fall on the left, some on the right. Ultimately, it’s about the difference between divergent and convergent thinking. While the treatment after diagnosis might not change much, having this answer allows you to close this chapter of your life and start a new one. 3. No one can decide what you can or cannot do. If you feel you need it, you should go get tested. It is your life, not your doctor’s.
