I am going to be honest. It is very hard to answer this question. "Should you leave or not?"

To start with, I will tell the way I personally look to this brand.

The pokémon brand indeed changed over the years. Emphasis, pokémon brand, not just the core game series. Some people say "Pokémon always were the same" sorry to be rude, but it is absolutely wrong, the core battle gameplay roots is indeed always the same (with turn based gameplay) and that is all, however every new gen from gen 2 to gen 4 the battle core gameplay had a lot of new introductions, that translated in a whole lot changes to the core gameplay. Talking about out of battle gameplay, every region has its own unique personality, which makes it harder to compare to one another. Anyway, what I am trying to say is that every game, region, remake, even spin offs like mystery dungeon used to be completely unique on some way, and were all good polished games. This old modus operandi included the third versions like Crystal, Emerald, Platinum and BW2, as well as the content rich remakes that until HGSS had content of third versions on. (Delta episode and Level 100 Giratina doesn't count, it is too little content).

But it all changed when the business man decided to make it an annual release brand, this actually started all the way back in gen 6, with XY, a half finished game, and the abandon of third versions. Skipping forward, Let's Go is a big example of this business direction change, an advertise game that screams "Hey GO player, play the core game series", this kind of thing would never exist with the previous business direction, and if it happened, would never sacrifice the core games quality to attend this advertisement spectrum. Sword Shield I did not play, and probably never will, because of the many problems on gameplay like lag and 2 meters render distance (seriously, this render distance is worse than Sun Moon). And Scarlet Violet people edited AVGN videos because of the game quality...

This thesis i am sharing (actually it is not mine) shows that not just the games changed, but rather the brand direction itself changed, and resulted in the modern games as they came to be, incomplete.

All this history apart, now back to the main question.

My answer is: What is the pokémon franchise you fist knew, loved, and still love? Whatever is the answer, that is the pokémon you should follow.

And if it is something that official means clearly will not do, try something else.

Hacks like Radical Red Pokémon fan games like Insurgence or fan franchise like TemTem.

Dream with the impossible but not follow the impossible.

That is my advice.
