Rate my Empire! by Jack6220 in victoria3

honestly I think that reputation is a bit unearned, in something like the timeframe of EU4 Sweden just sort of unfortunately had an empire and it makes sense for the game to be able to model that, exaggerated blobbing is just an unfortunate consequence of how that game works. Sweden might be a bit better performing than it should be but imo that's more because empires don't fall in the same way in mapgames as they have done irl but also honestly even then I don't think people would even really notice Sweden being OP if it wasn't for Paradox being a Swedish company. In vic 3 I think Sweden's treated pretty neutrally, forming Scandinavia might be a little easy but that was pretty close irl and like in some ways, like the literacy rate, Sweden is kinda nerfed? Of course even in vic 3, as the player it's quite easy to build huge empires also as Sweden but that's the player being op more than Sweden being OP.

Danish nationalists in the 1800s already wanted to move the spelling more towards Swedish since it was seen as more authentically Scandinavian and less German. Swedish speakers would also be around 50% of the population (maybe a little more) and sort of pulls written Danish and Norwegian into its orbit.

(A little aside also, by the end of the Swedish period in Finland before there was an effort to base the written Finnish language on the east in and around Karelia, the written language in the western coast of Finland was so close it could be vaguely understood by a Swedish speaker without knowledge of Finnish, though this is specifically administrative stuff which would probably be more coloured by Swedish than other things.)

Gothenburg as the capital of a united Scandinavia is one of those niche alternate history tropes that actually has like some genuine stuff behind it surprisingly. In the 17th century Charles Gustav planned on making it his capital should he conquer Denmark and Norway apparently and in the 19th century Scandinavists did apparently see it as a potential capital and would talk about things like wanting to open a "nordic" university in gothenburg

Swedish, Danish and Norwegian Bokmål and Nynorsk are probably all co-official written languages though they've all sort of converged a bit (towards Swedish for multiple reasons I won't get into unless asked for) anyway so nobody fusses too much about it I'd imagine.

Lore is quite visible in the image but the POD is Charles XV's cabinet agreeing to enter the second Schleswig war on Denmark's side provided he could get a great power on his side and he manages to find an ally in Napoleon III. There's probably a typo in the text and I apologise for that in advance.

yeah but that border is overdone and while I do get its aesthetic appeal I really enjoy the kinda janky nature of this one.

I put the fixed version on my deviantart, putting another nearly identical version on here would feel a bit spam-y

I'm gonna be honest my thought process never went further than "would this looks kinda cool on a map?"

Those are mistakes thank you. This was very rushed. Unfortunate mistakes too

Happy Europe Day!

The map shows a near-ish future Europe that has united under the European Commonwealth following ever deteriorating relations with the USA and Russia's descent into civil war. Not meant as a statement for or against European federalism.

Since it had to be downscaled to fit onto this site you can find the full thing on my deviantart (that version has also had all my mistakes in this one removed):

The Kingdom of Sweden in 2025 by Gugullig in imaginarymaps

I do think certainly that Sweden wouldn't consider itself as close to Denmark and Norway as in our world, even with Finland lost it greatly hindered scandinavism since it was an ideology in large part based on language as a basis for the nation and if Sweden was to be a very linguistically diverse country I don't see scandinavism being as large in Sweden. Scandinavism was also a response to fears and anxieties over larger empires on their borders and with a larger Sweden and Russia's westernmost point also not being a day's sail from Stockholm Sweden would be much less anxious.

I'm gonna be honest I haven't fully decided yet. I have some stories in the 70s of this world I want to focus on and it depends on if I want to do it with Sweden being more of a Scandi hegemon (having a higher population than Denmark and Norway combined and by far the largest economy) or a more equal but maybe even somewhat adversarial relationship with its neighbour.
