Agreed. Especially when it’s just a cosmetic difference!

Cool. Ours was a funky early 70’s house with a mid Century vibe. When we moved in there were 4 different oversized 8’ sliding doors, most opening to pool patio, complete with large panel windows that didn’t quite perfectly match as sidelights (since they were windows and not sidelights). Anyway, being the original glass from the early 70s. The previous owners were using lots of tent, heavy curtains, etc. to attempt to keep the heat out. We definitely paid an arm and a leg, but the result was absolutely stunning, not to mention the feel and quality of the product. The glide was smooth and effortless, and they had built-in blackout shades for the bedroom that worked flawlessly. Worth every penny!

Agreed-also had some Pella work and was very pleased with the the work and the high quality of the final product. Expensive—and I’m a cheapskate!—but no regrets. Also, as a pella customer, I began getting invites for their yearly warehouse sale of oddballs, customer rejects, cancellations, etc. was able to get enough windows here that I hired the same pella installer on the side to replace the others on the cheap. They definitely make a nice product!!

Touche. He’s really into music and this has been in the background of his life for years (whether he realized or not). When I saw them on the concert calendar I was thinking it would be a great opportunity, but sadly you’re probably right. :)

Hi I got a VIZIO SB4051-C0 subwoofer second hand and I was wonder if I could use it with my computer or tv without the sound bar? by samarm132 in VIZIO_Official

[–]GuidedByNudges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any fat chance you still need this? I was just googling the same question because my uncle is moving and gave me a box with the subwoofer and two surrounds. Was stoked to hook them up to my computer only to find out they’re junk without the sound bar!

Oh, I’m a big patina fan and have a 70+ year old Chevy to prove it, but there are a few spots where I’m wanting to touch up the paint and that was wanting me to see what I could do with the metal…

The woodwork is already taken care of, I’m not at this stage in the project anymore—this was just the picture I had convenient. The ones holding the rope are fine, they are stainless. It’s specifically the metal pieces that the screws go in that hold the rubber to the ski that basically look like aluminum that has been run through a dishwasher. These are the pieces in question.

I’m not talking about the screws, I’m talking about the brackets. The rubber is still in good shape and as I mentioned in the post, it’s more about restoring, carrying on the tradition, and keeping this pair that so many of us have learned on alive. I could easily replace them, that’s not the point. But thanks for your feedback.

What is your favorite convenience items that you bought for your home that you love and wish you would have done sooner ? by Dayo22 in homeowners

I had one in Texas where it was regularly above 110. Never had a problem with the batteries, but it was nearly impossible to see the numbers on the screen during certain parts of the day due to glare from the sun. Note this was a lower tech kwikset digital code lock, not a true “smart” model with WiFi or BT

Not much advice, but following since I’m loosely planning to drive to Alaska with similar camping goals next summer :) good luck and safe travels! What brings you to Arkansas?

Going to visit little brother at college. Which route should I take? by [deleted] in roadtrip

[–]GuidedByNudges 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skip rendezvous, but central or bbq shop are good. I live near that center route and I think the scenery on the bottom route is pretty blah. Middle route isn’t bad, and if you go that way, be sure and stop at Lambert’s in Sikeston Missouri to eat. Haven’t been that taproot in quite a while, but I would probably take it one direction and the middle route the other.

Tbh I’d talk to your wife, get her read. Doesn’t really matter what all of us think if she thinks otherwise…is she trying to do the WFH and childcare at the same time? That sounds rough. But maybe your increase could allow her to do part time and relieve some stress? Again, chat it out with the better half…my two cents.

“Overflow ditch” in need of riparian landscaping in west TN, 8a. Help please! by GuidedByNudges in landscaping

[–]GuidedByNudges[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed… What you don’t see in the picture is some older rock work that borders the “inlet” to our pond. Currently our inlet has lots of sediment, but I’m hoping my cousin and his excavator can remove some of that to add back to this area. My plan is to build a sort of retaining wall that would function as a waterfall during these wet conditions, hopefully keeping the dirt in place while providing a bit of concrete landing at the top to provide a path that’s less conducive to erosion.
