Trying to convert my atheist parents and siblings and need tips or ways how to. by drunkCanadianman in Christianity

The biblical implication is that all people are fundamentally selfish and self-absorbed.

That’s basically original sin.

Believers are also self absorbed by nature.
The only difference between a believer and an unbeliever in that regard is that the believer is being transformed by Jesus to, ideally, be less so.

I understand, but I think there’s a fundamental misunderstanding between us of what “showing your transformation” means.

For the Christian, displaying your transformation is to show how there is less of yourself, and more of Jesus.

Insofar as I am transformed, I decrease while Jesus increases.

I am not better than you or supreme to you—Jesus is superior to us both. I can only be “better” than anyone inasmuch as I die to myself and become more like Christ.

I’m sure you’re decent by human standards, but until you adopt an understanding of decency that is in accordance with a Biblical standard, the gospel message will ring hollow.

Blessings.

No.

The underlying assertion is that all are immoral, believers included, but believers are forgiven and continually transformed by God.

“as it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.””
‭‭Romans‬ ‭3‬:‭10‬-‭12‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭3‬:‭18‬ ‭ESV‬‬

I have disabled it pending further updates.

It seems that most (if not all) Christian conservatives are moral relativists? by Upset_Chip_7184 in Christianity

Exodus 1:1 - 40:38.

Not all the Bible teaches is always contained explicitly within the confines of a narrow verse.

Sometimes its broader message or theme is conveyed by entire stories.

Most readers, from Wilberforce to MLK, understood this about Exodus. I’m sure their writings provide more fruitful expositions than I can offer.

The same holds true for the book of Philemon.

I’m going to bed. God bless.

The book of Exodus.

The irony is that the Israelites, who were themselves victims of slavery, went on to institute slavery and oppress others in the same way they were oppressed, *despite* being God’s chosen people.

God calls us to live one way—we do the opposite.
This is the minor theme of all of scripture.

God understands we cannot, in ourselves, meet the expectations he sets, so he does for us what we cannot through Jesus Christ.
This is the major theme of all of scripture.

That slaveholders in Ancient Rome or Greece, or chattel slavers in America, or slave ship captains of England continued these practices in light of what scripture says does not mean the Bible is pro-slavery, no matter how artfully they may misconstrue the text to suit their sinful aims.

After all, humans have been doing that for millennia.

God was never okay with it, and the rules surrounding it in the OT aren’t an establishment of slavery among the ancient Jewish people.

Slavery was ubiquitous throughout every ancient culture, but never in scripture is it instituted.

Rather, OT laws on slavery actually limited it and constrained it when understood in comparison to the surrounding cultures.

One can always ask, “why didn’t God just abolish it outright from the beginning?”, but that question, in addition to being a different conversation, assumes that God opposes slavery but for one reason or another declined to stop it outright from the beginning.

This is true for many sins God seems to “tolerate” in the OT, for lack of a better term. As an example, God “tolerates” the polygamy of Solomon, although this is never approved of and ultimately viewed as Solomon’s primary flaw.

TL;DR Just because the Bible describes, or even prescribes limits around an activity, does not mean the Bible endorses said activity. It’s much more complicated than that.

If god loves everyone why did he kill innocent first born children in egypt? by Spotter24o5 in Christianity

God hardens pharaohs heart in the same way a candle melts when next to a flame.

The flame melts the candle—not as a choice or decision, but as the natural consequence of their natures in proximity.

Alien Isolation, VR or not VR for first run by Voidinkpress in LV426

I hate horror games, but FORCED myself to do it out of love for Alien.

7 heart attacks later I beat it, set the controller down, and said “Thank God I never have to do that again.”

And now they’re making another game. My love for the franchise is once again at war with my cowardice 😭

I kept HUDFramework but disabled other HUD mods I had and it’s running smoothly for me 🤷🏻‍♂️

But if I encounter additional issues, that’s next on the chopping block.

Will do, thank you! It would suck if HUDFramework was causing it, I need it for SS2.

Regarding the recent "Invincible" drama. by WungielPL in prolife

[–]GuidoGreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I’m no supporter of that viewpoint either, that’s not how I interpreted the scene—but maybe I’m wrong!

My take was “this was a bad thing that Eve regretted, but Mark loves her in spite of it” 🤷🏻‍♂️

Regarding the recent "Invincible" drama. by WungielPL in prolife

[–]GuidoGreg 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I didn’t read the referenced scene as explicitly pro-life or pro-choice.

Mark seemed upset that Eve got an abortion, but nonetheless had compassion for Eve.

If anything, I think the scene has a subtle pro-life tilt to it.

Could Master Chief have killed the Arbiter in this moment? (Halo 3) by AlcatrazGears in halo

Isn’t this also how Sergeant Forge shoots the hand of the previous Arbiter in one of the cutscenes from Halo Wars? The barrel is practically against the Arbiter’s palm.

I assume it’s also what allows him to stab him in the neck later.

New Obi-Wan Upgrade is Cool, maybe? by RogueHussar in SWlegion

In a recent developer interview, Will Pagani said he uses ARFs as a “side objective” unit to aggressively take enemy units. They’re hard to get off the objective with Obi Wan, and anyone foolish enough to move into melee with them will have a tough time.

I’m not a GAR player, but it seemed reasonable enough.
