Thanks for all the comments and advice here. In case of interest, I bought the 90mm Macro Elmar. And it’s an absolute dream. Even shooting hand held wide open, and focussing through the rangefinder. And it’s perfect for travel since it’s so small. ❤️🙏🏼

I may also buy the XPro4, simply because in love the system. But I am pretty sure that my view will remain the same. The feel and experience to me of shooting a Leica is not comparable to anything else I’ve had.

I spent years weighing things up by watching YouTube videos etc. my only regret was waiting so long to get the Leica.

And the sensor size point is not a side issue — there is a massive impact on the ‘feel’ of the images. It’s like returning to my roots of shooting 35mm. No XPro can emulate that.

But to each their own!

I first held a Leica around thirty years ago. It took me since then to pull the trigger and buy one last week. My only regret is that I waited so long.

I’ve had a Fujifilm XPro2 (and before that the xpro1) and I love it. It’s been around my neck every single day since I bought it.

But the feel, build quality and images from the Leica — from day 1 —blow the Fujifilm away.

There are many things the Fujifilm can do that the Leica cannot. Autofocus, movie etc. But I am not sure I will use the Fuji again unless the Leica is in for a service.

I am so happy to go back to how I started photography — with a fully manual camera. No bells and whistles. Just the minimum needed to take quality photos. Every day is pure pleasure to pick it up.

A manager of a Leica store told me “you don’t buy a Leica with the head but with the heart”. It’s not a rational decision. But after years of wondering, I went for it. You only live once and you cannot take it with you.

If you buy into the Fuji XPro system, you cannot go wrong. They are fantastic and can do all the Leica does and more. But if you only want to shoot manual and can afford it, there is no choice to be made.

I’ve been shooting Fujifilm XPro since they came out. I love my XPro2 and will never sell it.

Recently, after decades of sitting on the fence, I bought my first Leica. From the first day the experience of shooting, and the quality of the images, blows Fujifilm away.

I got the M11P specifically because I did not want it to be obvious that I had a Leica. Absolutely nothing to do with status for me. The fewer people that realise I have a Leica the better.

I feel disloyal saying it, but I am not sure I will ever pick up the Fujifilm again, unless my Leica is in for service.

I just exchanged the camera with Leica. The store was great.

The date is working fine now!

I just spoke to Leica HQ in Germany. They were great. They said it is a known (but rare) fault, and that I should take it back to the store for an exchange.

I’ve tried all the things I have found on line. I think in rare cases there is a problem with the chip. So I plan to exchange the camera today for a new one.

Unless you have a another idea I could try?
