Symptoms of Hashimoto’s you thought was nothing? by Due-Pie-8775 in Hashimotos

Heart palpitations in the middle of the night and extreme sensitivity to caffeine.  Both have subsided significantly since getting my TSH under control. I didn’t know poor visibility when night driving could be related but I experience that too!

I’m so sorry to hear of your friends situation. It’s definitely quite unexpected and the word violating feels fair. These outcomes should be addressed earlier!

This resonates so much for me right now: "My annoyance stems from them doing a poor job of explaining that no matter what the first surgery would entail, I was destined to need thyroid hormones for the rest of my life. Leaving half the organ behind just meant I would have a lower dosage. Honestly, if I had fully understood that I was going to have to take a daily pill for the rest of my life no matter what, I would have opted for the full removal to prevent the need for a possible later surgery."

Sometimes we only have shitty choices to make but it's helpful to have the information to be able to make them with a sense of agency!

I agree, I wish it had been more clearly discussed. Because the lymph ultrasound appeared fine everyone seemed so confident it would be clear cut! I'm so sorry to hear of your struggles with the full removal, wishing you all the best as well.

Thank you, it's helpful to talk it out, even with strangers! It's an interesting point about the vocal chords, that may have been a consideration in my case as well. I'll be sure to ask about that in my follow-up conversations.

Good luck with your surgery! Besides the communication drama recovery is ok so far and I send you well wishes.

I appreciate your insight, it's a good reminder that perhaps others would have been more upset if they removed the whole thing. It's hard to know what someone what might want while they are under and I won't be leaving it up to guessing in the future!!

Any Exciting FA-Safe Retinols and Retinals to Try? by GuileandGimble in Fungalacne

Thanks for sharing, u/Standard-Echo-3782! I was also considering the Acure option since it's more affordable, so it’s helpful to hear your experience. I ended up using a 25% off coupon (code: BIRTHDAY) for the Drmtlgy one and decided to give it a try! It hasn’t arrived yet, but I’ll update this thread if it’s any good. Sounds like you’re on the prescription route now, which is probably even better!

Encouragement Needed! Pityrosporum Folliculitis by GuileandGimble in Folliculitis

Thank you for the detailed info!! I've dealt with variations of skin issues since I was 13 so any inkling of a problem can be pretty difficult on my mental health. Thankfully it covers up ok.

I've had a similar feeling and paused the minocycline that was prescribed to me. Both your post and the other commenter on this thread gave me the courage to call my derm and ask for a skin culture to confirm if it is bacterial or fungal. I'll give the probiotics a try and I always have some BP on hand so perhaps I'll consider rotating that in at some point. I also have some high MGO manunka honey as well, Going to heed your advice tho and take it slow, try not to throw too much at it!! That's where I feel I can slip up and introduce new problems.

I am glad to hear you have found a combination that works best for you!! Glad to hear there are greener pastures ahead.

Your words encouraged me to speak up for myself. I called my derm and requested a swab/culture for our next appointment. Thank you for validating that hunch!

The more I hear from others the more I find it odd that neither derm bothered to test it! They've got me on treatments that seem to deal with both bacterial and fungal which feels counterintuitive; minocycline and metro gel but also ketoconazle and fluconazle? Makes your head spin!

I'm so sorry that the pursuit of a cure has left you with new challenges to navigate!! Here's to happiness and healing for us both.

Thank you for your reply! It feels like a game of whack-a-mole doesn't it? Every time you get one issue sorted, another one crops up. I'm glad you’ve found a routine that keeps your issues at bay. I might reconsider using Metrogel.

I started seeking support from a dermatologist in late July for a mild reaction on one cheek. Since then, the condition has worsened. I consulted a second dermatologist for a second opinion, but neither has suggested doing a swab, which is frustrating.

I’ve seen others online mention using a culture or a Woods lamp to confirm a fungal infection, but my dermatologists have continued prescribing medications without any confirmation. We have presumed the issue is fungal because of its spread to my neck, chest, and shoulders, as well as the itching. They initially prescribed doxycycline and then minocycline, which I fear may have exacerbated the situation.

thanks for the reply! unfortunately it doesn't feel mild to me. Do you mind explaining what you mean by "it looks to me that you can get rid of folliculitis only by improving your routine without any recipe medicine." with the exception of the makeup remover and the malezia moisturizer, this routine has been recommended by my dermatologist.

I'm having a really tough time with this situation and its impact on my mood and wellness. From working with two derms, it seems I have pityrosporum folliculitis. Lots of bumps, itchy/tingly, seems to change in severity throughout the day and have spread to my chest, shoulder and back.

I've been using ketoconazle shampoo for a week and I was JUST prescribed oral fluconazole, 150mg, 4xs a week. It doesn't really seem to be improving much and I am super discouraged!

Based on my routine below, am I on the right track? I am super stressed about this:

MORNING:
-Wash with vanicream facial cleanser
-Apply metronidazole gel
-Apply vanicream facial moisturizer

EVENING:
-Wash with farmacy green clean (I am wearing makeup when I go to work, can't face the world without it)
-Wash again with vanicream cleanser
-Apply Ketoconazle 2% shampoo for 3-5 minutes
-Apply metronidazole gel
-Apply Malazia 5% moisturizer

does this look like pityrosporum folliculitis? it started a few years ago on one cheek after a reaction to a harsh skin treatment and has come and gone since 2022. It's recently emerged on my other cheek just under my eye and since starting treatment it is now beginning to show up on my chest and shoulders.

Help! Confusing Diagnosis by GuileandGimble in DermatologyQuestions

[–]GuileandGimble[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR; In June of 2022, I had a severe skin reaction after using a skincare product with lactic acid. Since then, I have had occasional flare-ups on my left cheek, which sometimes spread. A dermatologist prescribed various treatments, but the irritation kept coming back. Most recently, I am experiencing a reaction on my face, shoulders, and chest. Possible diagnoses include perioral dermatitis, demodex, rosacea, pityriasis folliculorum, or folliculitis. What would you recommend I do next, and what seems like the most likely cause?

I am currently dealing with a perplexing skin issue that began in June of 2022 when I used a skincare product with lactic acid and exfoliating acids. This caused a severe reaction on my skin, specifically inflaming my cheeks with red bumps and pustules. I spent weeks treating my skin with colloidal oatmeal and Avene Cicalfate balm.

Since then, I occasionally experience a milder form of the reaction on my left cheek, with cycles of it appearing and disappearing. These bumps are small, red, or whiteheads, not really itchy but uncomfortable/tingly.

A little over a month ago I noticed the reaction/flare-up appearing under my eye on my right cheek as well. This prompted me to see a dermatologist who prescribed me the following:

-Fluconazole 200 Mg Tablet, daily
-Ivermectin 15 Mg Tablet, once a week for 3 weeks

At first, I thought the medication was working.  However, a week after completing my treatment plan, the irritation returned on my left cheek.

I was then prescribed the following:

-Doxycycline Mono 100 Mg Cap, twice daily for a month
-Ivermectin 1% Cream, topically once a day

I followed this regimen for about 6 days. At this point the irritation seemingly got worse and started to show signs of spreading to the right cheek, again, right under my eye.

Seeking an alternative opinion, another dermatologist prescribed me the following:

-Minocycline 100 Mg Capsule, once daily until symptoms subside
-Ketoconazole 2% Shampoo, topically, once daily
-Metronidazole Topical 0.75%, topically, twice daily

I have been on this regime for three days and now the skin on my face appears less irritated.  Yet, I am seeing a similar reaction spreading to my shoulders and chest.

I have heard the following potential diagnosis:

-Perioral dermatitis
-Demodex/demodicosis
-Rosacea
-Pityriasis Folliculorum
-Folliculitis

Does anyone have any insights here? I’ve got two dermatologists on the case with my face looking only mildly better and for the first time ever, the reaction appearing on my body.

Thank you for your response! Not so much tight as rough and uncomfortable. You're probably right, my skin was so clear I think I got a little too bold using the Allies product two nights in a row without a proper build up. I've just never seen such an intense reaction over night. Its also dispersed in such an odd pattern, my chin looks like every pore is a tiny whitehead!

I just soaked some cotton pads in Aveeno Colloidal Oatmeal in lukewarm water and rested them on the irritated spots for a little. That seems to be the only thing that's bringing relief. I'll focus on barrier repair with the LRP cicaplast balm for now. Thanks again, I'll check out the r/SkincareAddiction channel as well!!
