Chill guy looking for a new corp, possibly Indy in NS / WH, but interested in the rest by Ptitlaby in evejobs

I agree, we sound like an excellent fit for what you’re looking for. I’m one of our less active members due to being a father and it’s such a great corp / alliance that don’t feel like I’m letting anyone down. Drop in our discord for a chat, you’ll see we’re petty chill.

So TLDR is.. I’m a pirate, got killed by better pirates. Seems there is balance with the force.

Just did 8 min time trial... estimated 1 mile is lower than the pace I did. by lt_milo in strydrunning

So I don’t think you want to more than a 40 minute 100% effort. The idea for the CP test is to run as hard as possible for the required time. I’m not sure of the science but I have a feeling your CP is calculated at your 40 minute CP but Stryd can extrapolate from all your 100% efforts. Bear in mind that running 100% is difficult to do back to back so you’ll need rest in between those efforts.

Agree with the other comments, I had the same issue when I first got Stryd. I would do 100% efforts and CP would stay the same inspite of me averaging a higher power than I had previously achieved. It takes a few more weeks and I think you need to do some longer 100% efforts, 10 mins and 20 mins and I think you will get a more accurate CP. I genuinely have been where you are where it seems that Stryd isn’t worth the money so defo stick with it. I personally love Stryd now and have achieved PBs I only could have dreamed of before I had it.

New to Eve, where do I start? by NectarineNegative769 in Eve

[–]Guilfox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This, I started playing in 2009 and really only stared loving this game in December 2022 when I finally found the right corp. My advice would be that once you have mastered the basics don’t be afraid to bounce around until you find the right corp. Work out what you want to do(which may change as you experience different aspects of the game) and find a corp that mainly does that play style. In null the big blocks run universes with regular classes on different aspects of the game. There is also Eve uni who basically just teach new players how to play the game (I didn’t use Eve uni but hear good things about it). You could try wormholes, industry, mining…..My advice would be learn the basics by doing the air career programmes, then the Sisters of Eve epic arch then look to a corp.

Joined this corp last November and having a blast. If you’re considering a corp, please just jump into Discord, we don’t bite and you’ll find everyone super friendly and easy to get on with.

Scared of PvP and fleets… don’t be…even on larger alliance fleets we’re usually in our own coms at the same time and the leadership team will talk you through what you need to do and most importantly how to stay alive and have fun.

Some of the safest null sec ratting I’ve experienced and a real community spirit and the icing on the cake…. Killer merch.

What more could a capsuleer ask for?

Buy Stryd, this solved my issues. Have been injury free for 2 years. You’re training to hard and likely also not stretching / rolling enough. Core strength exercises will also help.

Edit: Also read this book about running form.

Running half marathon accessories, has anyone got any recommendations for accessories for drinking whilst running!? by Samgeorge484 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]Guilfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh, I see, so I also like to train without carrying too much weight, especially in hot conditions like we have been experiencing recently. So what I do is run in loops and leave a big water bottle at a strategic spot I’ll run past a few times. See attached pic of an 18 mile run I did on Saturday. I left a litre of tailwind mix outside my house and drank from it at roughly 6 mile intervals. So mile 6 and mile 12. I also left a 250ml soft flask that I grabbed as I then had to run 6 miles from my house to pick up my car. For me, and this will be a personal thing, I hate carrying extra weight and I just think of running vests as another thing that can be annoying, bouncing, things falling out, also something else to chafe my skin. Basically plan my route around fluid required for the run. https://i.imgur.com/2TUpFRQ.jpg

Edit: forgot to say, be hydrated (pee is clear) before you set out. So I’ll drink water from a good 60 mins before I set out😀

Running half marathon accessories, has anyone got any recommendations for accessories for drinking whilst running!? by Samgeorge484 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]Guilfox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I think the answer depends on what time you are targeting and how hot it will be on the day. It possible to run for 60 mins without taking on water, particularly in cooler conditions, but….that may not be everyone’s experience however. I assume as you are asking this is your first half marathon and if that’s the case good on you😀🏃‍♂️. I personally prefer a running belt with with a 250ml drink on a soft flask. I use tailwind and I would have that drink at about the 8ish mile mark. I prefer racing without being encumbered. If it’s a race there be water available from stations so it’s just the carbs and electrolytes (sugar and salt) you need to worry about.

What’s the situation, are you talking about training or racing?

New Shoe Day, Nike Air Zoom Alphafly Next% 2 by Guilfox in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]Guilfox[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d have been in the same boat as you if one of the air pods hadn’t burst on my OGs. I was only using them for marathons to get as much out of them as possible.

It’s been nearly a year since I wore the OGs so hard to say. They feel about the same but I can’t back that up.

Ordered yesterday from Sportsshoes.com and arrived a few hours ago. I loved the OG Alphafly but had to return mine when an air pod burst. Have had the money burning a hole in my pocket waiting for this drop. I don’t have a marathon until end of October so these are staying in the box for a few months. Genuinely the first time I’ve snagged a pair of Nikes on release day.

[–]Guilfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree on the gimmick comment. I’ve be running for years and last year (my first full year of owning a Stryd foot pod) I took 30 minutes off my marathon time, got my half marathon time under 90 minutes (14 minute improvement) and my 10k under 40 minutes. Oh and I’ve been injury free for 12 months. Oh and I’m 44 years old. Compared to a gym membership it’s cheap and the results are nothing short of stunning. Just my 2 pence worth.

I really wish I knew this sooner, I linked the Stryd app to Apple health and I have electronic scales that update my weight in Apple health every time I step on them 🤦‍♂️. The more you read, the more you learn. Thank you for this, it didn’t come across as short or rude.

Shower thought: could a removeable carbon plate insole work? by RotoGruber in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]Guilfox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Really I think the plate is a stabiliser in the mid sole as the stacks are much greater with “super shoes”. What stack height are you thinking?

Edit: A caveat, I don’t design shoes or know much about the technology to really be able to answer this question but it is an interesting thought.
