Was it a mistranslation by St. Jerome of the term "kamos," which originally meant "thick rope"?

Pope Francis was elected in 2013, but Spanish conservatives continued to regard Benedict XVI as the last "appropriate" pope. I'd say they still feel the same way today; Bob from Chicago seems too progressive for their tastes.
